20、ments cover emergency breakaway ttings, swivel connectors and pipe-connecting ttings of the threadless compression type. Connectors and ttings covered by these requirements are intended only for the following services. 1.2 A swivel connector is either a hose swivel or joint swivel. The swivel connec
21、tor will allow radial movement and shall be constructed for petroleum product, liqueed petroleum gas (LP-Gas) or anhydrous ammonia (NH3) service. 1.3 An emergency breakaway tting is used between the outlet of the dispensing device and the hose nozzle valve or lever-operated fuel transfer valve (LP-G
22、as Service) and separates in the event that the coupling is subjected to an excessive pull force to safeguard against abnormally excessive pull force on the hose assembly and dispenser and prevent loss of liquid. An emergency breakaway tting shall be constructed for petroleum product, liqueed petrol
23、eum gas (LP-Gas) or anhydrous ammonia (NH3) service. The ttings shall be of the single-break or reconnectable type. 1.4 Requirements for the installation and use of dispensing equipment handling petroleum products are included in the Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code, NFPA 30, and the Code for
24、Motor Fuel Dispensing Facilities and Repair Garages, NFPA 30A. 1.5 Requirements for the installation and use of dispensing devices handling LP-Gas are included in the Liqueed Petroleum Gas Code, NFPA 58. 1.6 Requirements for the installation and use of dispensing equipment handling anhydrous ammonia
25、 are included in the Safety Requirements for the Storage and Handling of Anhydrous Ammonia, ANSI/CGA G-2.1 (ANSI K61.1). 1.7 A hose assembly provided with an integral swivel connector for petroleum product service shall comply with the applicable requirements in the Standard for Hose and Hose Assemb
26、lies for Dispensing Flammable Liquids, UL 330. 2 General 2.1 Components 2.1.1 Except as indicated in 2.1.2, a component of a product covered by this standard shall comply with the requirements for that component. 2.1.2 A component is not required to comply with a specic requirement that: a) Involves
27、 a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in the product covered by this standard, or b) Is superseded by a requirement in this standard. 30、e to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this standard shall be interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard. 3 Glossary 3.1 For the purposes of this standard the following denitions apply: 3.2 FITTING, PIPE-CONNECTING A tting of the threadless compression
31、seal-ring type for use in the assembly of petroleum product dispensing devices to facilitate connection of piping or tubing. These ttings shall be made in the straight coupling style, as well as in the tee, ell, reducer, adapter, and other styles. 3.3 FITTING, RECONNECTABLE TYPE An emergency breakaw
32、ay tting designed such that upon separation it is intended to be reconnected and reused when it is not damaged. 3.4 FITTING, SINGLE-BREAK TYPE An emergency breakaway tting that, upon separation, is not intended to be reconnected and reused. 3.5 HOSE SWIVEL A swivel connector with one end attached to
33、 a hose and the other end to an appurtenance. The hose swivel will allow radial movement of the hose and/or appurtenance to prevent the hose from twisting or having torsional stress. 3.6 LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GAS (LP-GAS OR LPG) Any material having a vapor pressure not exceeding that allowed for comme
34、rcial propane, as dened in Standard Specication for Liqueed Petroleum (LP) Gases, ASTM D1835, that is composed predominantly of the following hydrocarbons, either by themselves (excluding propylene) or as mixtures: propane, propylene, butane (normal butane or isobutane) and butylenes. 3.7 PETROLEUM
35、PRODUCTS As used herein, means gasoline, gasoline/alcohol blends containing up to 15 percent alcohol, fuel oil, kerosene, and similar liquid motor or heating fuel products. 3.8 PRESSURE INDICATING DEVICE As used herein, the pressure indicating device means one of the following: a) An analog gauge ha
36、ving a pressure range such that the test pressure is between 30 and 70 percent of the maximum scale reading of the gauge; b) A digital pressure transducer, or other digital gauge, that is calibrated over a range of pressure that includes the test pressure; or MAY 7, 2014 UL 567 5UL COPYRIGHTED MATER

38、g system with at least one end attached to a rigid pipe or other appurtenance that is rmly affixed. The swivel joint will allow radial movement of the pipe or other appurtenance attached to the swivel to prevent torsional stress. 4 Installation and Operating Instructions 4.1 A copy of the installati
39、on and operating instructions shall be provided and shall be used as a guide in the examination and test of the device. For this purpose, a nal printed edition is not required. 4.2 The instructions shall include directions and information as deemed by the manufacturer to be adequate for proper and s
40、afe installation, maintenance and use of the device. 4.3 Each emergency breakaway tting shall be provided with instructions that indicate how to determine that the maximum rated separation force will not damage the hose assembly or dispensing device. 4.4 Each swivel connector shall be provided with
41、instructions that indicates if it is a hose swivel or swivel joint. CONSTRUCTION 5 General 5.1 A connector or tting for use with petroleum products shall be constructed for an operating pressure of not less than 50 pounds per square inch gauge (psig) (340 kPa) for the uid conning portion of the devi
42、ce and 0.5 psig (3.45 kPa) for the vapor conning portion of the device, when provided, and an ultimate rupture pressure of not less than ve times the design pressure. 5.2 A swivel connector or emergency breakaway tting for use with anhydrous ammonia or LP-Gas shall be designed for an operating press
43、ure of not less than 350 psig (2413 kPa) and an ultimate rupture pressure of not less than ve times the design pressure. 5.3 An emergency breakaway tting shall be constructed to separate in the event that the coupling is subjected to a pull force not less than 100 pounds (445 N), and not to exceed 3
44、50 pounds (1557 N) for petroleum product service and 400 pounds (1779 N) for anhydrous ammonia or LP-Gas Service. 45、dled shall be inherently resistant to being adversely effected by such uid. 6.2 A synthetic rubber part shall not show any signs of cracking or other damage following exposure to minus 40F (minus 40C). See the Low Temperature Test, Section 21. 6.3 A part made of drawn-brass or machined from bass rod
46、 shall be capable of withstanding, without cracking, the Moist Ammonia-Air Stress Cracking Test, Section 23, for copper and copper alloys. 6.4 A copper or a copper-alloy part shall not be used where it is in contact with aluminum, unless one of the parts is coated with chromium or other equivalent m
47、etallic coating to preclude electrolytic action. A coating shall have a thickness of not less than 0.0002 inch (0.0005 mm). 6.5 If atmospheric corrosion of a ferrous material part will interfere with the proper function of a connector or a tting, the part shall be provided with a corrosion-resistant
48、 protective coating. 6.6 A protective coating shall provide resistance against corrosion to a degree not less than that provided by the protective coatings specied in 6.7. 6.7 Cadmium plating shall have a thickness of not less than 0.0003 inch (0.0008 mm) and zinc plating shall have a thickness of n
49、ot less than 0.0005 inch (0.013 mm), except on parts where threads constitute the major portion of the area, in which case the thickness of the cadmium or the zinc plating shall not be less than 0.00015 inch (0.0038 mm). 6.8 Ammonia containing minute quantities of water reacts rapidly with cadmium, copper, zinc, and many alloys, especially those of copper base.
