The cable tie of a sample that has an integrally molded fixing device shallbe assembled to an appropriate mandrel according to clause 9.6.2 prior to cycling.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:It has come to ULs attention that the practical application of tests for cable ties that have integrally moldedfixi

38、ng devices require clarification. Clause 5.8 states: “A fixing device that is integral to a cable tie shallcomply with the requirements for both the fixing device and the cable tie.” In normal use, the integrallymolded product acts as a system. It is therefore important to recognize that the actual

39、strength of the cableties locking mechanism may be less than the loop tensile strength of the cable tie determined by tests inclauses 9.5 or 9.6 due to the reaction to forces applied during testing of the fixing device according toClause 9.7. Conversely, it is also possible that the actual mechanica

40、l strength of the fixing device, whentested in accordance with clause 9.7, may also be less due to the systems reaction to the test force. The requirements above are deemed necessary to ensure consistency and repeatability of the tests andto provide the user with important information for safe use of
