3、 and Table 9Subject: Adding requirements to address composite outer jacket of nylon/PVC.DECISION:4.7 Overall thermoplastic jacket4.7.1 The assembled cable shall be enclosed completely by a snug-fitting overall jacket of PVC (NMCcable) or of PVC or other thermoplastic (NM cable). The jacket shall pro

4、vide the cable with resistance toabrasion and the required flexibility. If it is applicable for the use, a jacket of a material other than PVC isacceptable on Type NM cable insulated with PVC or other thermoplastic material. A connector pull-out testis to be part of the evaluation of a cable jackete

5、d with a material other than PVC. The test (a pull of 60lbf or 267 N or 27.2 kgf applied for 5 minutes, with no more than 1/8 inch or 3 mm movement of the cablein the connector) is to be conducted as outlined under the heading Connectors for Nonmetallic-SheathedCable in the Standard for Conduit, Tub

6、ing, and Cable Fittings, UL 514B.4.7.2 A composite thermoplastic jacket of nylon and PVC, may be provided on NM cable. The nylon is theouter most layer.4.8.2.1 If a composite thermoplastic jacket is employed, each material, when separated, must comply withthe physical properties values called out in

7、 section 5.2.5.2 Physical properties of PVC and other materials5.2.1 The physical properties of specimens of a PVC jacket prepared from finished cable shall comply withthe requirements in the Physical properties of NM Cable PVCajacket Table, and a specimen of thenylon from the nylon/PVC composite ja

8、cket shall comply with the requirements in the “Physical propertiesof NM Cable Nylon jacket Table 10 when tested in accordance with the Physical Properties Section inthe Standard for Wire and Cable Test Methods, UL 2556. See 4.4.3 for the long-term evaluation of ajacket material not specified in 4.7

16、 12 AWG copper or 12 or 10 AWGaluminum insulated circuit conductors shall not wear through exposing the underlying protective sheath orconductor assembly in fewer than 70 complete cycles of abrasion against sharp steel edges. The test isto be conducted as described in 7.14.5.15.2 A composite jacket

17、of nylon and PVC shall not wear through both layers exposing the underlyingprotective sheath or conductor assembly in fewer than 70 complete cycles of abrasion against sharp steeledges.5.15.2 3 The jacket on one or more of the six specimens tested shall not be worn through in fewer than70 complete s

18、trokes.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:This proposal is intended to provide requirements of a composite type jacket with a nylon/PVCthermoplastic jacket, where the nylon is the outer most layer. Physical Property requirements for nylonwere taken from UL758, The Standard for Appliance Wiring Material.The requ
