3、lement SBSubject: Ozone Generating DishwashersDECISION:Supplement SB: Ozone Generating DishwashersSB1 ScopeSB1.1 The requirements outlined in this Supplement shall be applied to appliances generating ozoneduring normal operation. These requirements are applied in addition to the requirements specifi

4、ed in UL749.SB2 Ozone Emission TestSB2.1 Chamber SpecificationsSB2.1.1 The test chamber construction materials, air tightness and air mixing efficiency shall be asspecified in Indoor Air Part 9: Determination of the Emission of Volatile Organic Compounds fromBuilding Products and Furnishing Emission

5、 Test Chamber Method, ISO 16000-9.SB2.1.2 The test chamber operating parameters, such as the loading factor, air supply system, ozonehalf-life, air exchange rate, temperature and relative humidity, shall be as specified in ISO 28360.SB2.2 Equipment SpecificationsSB2.2.1 Ozone analysis equipment shal

6、l meet the following criteria:a) Ranges of 0.02, 0.04, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 mg/m3on the full scale (or have auto rangingcapability);b) The capability to detect 4 g/m3or lower concentration;c) A precision of 2 percent from the mean value in the 0 mg/m3to 0.2 mg/m3range (i.e. 2g/m3or 1 percent on the ful

7、l scale);d) A sampling rate of not less often than once every 30 seconds.Note: To prevent loss of ozone in the sampling line, it shall be of minimum length, not exceeding 4 m, and made of a flexible inertmaterial such as PTFE.SB2.3 Test ConditionsUL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER RE

8、PRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULSBA2.3.1 The appliance shall be tested without a test load. The appliance shall not be installed in asimulated cabinet enclosure and shall be positioned approximately in the center of the test chamber.SB2.3.2 The appliance shall be operated without

9、 detergent for two successive operations of the appliancethrough the complete cycle(s) that gives the highest ozone output.SB2.3.3 A 4 minute interval shall be allowed between successive cycles to represent unloading andreloading of the appliance. During this off period, the door or drawer shall be

10、opened within 10 secondsof the completion of the cycle to the maximum extent allowed by the construction and closed immediatelybefore starting the next cycle. If the appliance is provided with a door or drawer lock per Clause SB6, thedoor or drawer shall be opened immediately after the lock is disen

11、gaged.SB2.3.4 Cold water shall be supplied to the appliance at a temperature of 15 5C and at a minimumpressure of 150 kPa.SB2.3.5 The outlet of the hose from the drain pump shall be 900 mm above the floor on which theappliance rests and shall be routed out of the test chamber.SB2.3.6 The appliance s

12、hall be operated without detergent.SB2.3.7 If the maximum ozone concentration in the test chamber is dependent upon the functioning of thecontrol, the washer will be subjected to the Ozone Emission Test with and without this control functiondefeated, unless this control function is evaluated for rel

13、iability as a safety critical function in accordancewith UL 60730.Note: For example, if the ozone generator operation time is limited by the control, the test will be repeated with this control functiondefeated to cause continuous operation of the ozone generator.SB2.3.8 If the appliance is provided

14、 with a filter which is replaceable or removable without the use of atool, the test shall be repeated with the filter removed.SB2.4 Measurements and CalculationsSB2.4.1 The exhaust air of the emission test chamber shall be used for sampling the ozone concentrationin accordance with ISO 28360. The ma

17、ITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULSB2.4.2 The specific emission rate calculated in Clause SB2.4.1 shall be translated to an ozoneconcentration within a kitchen installation by use of the following equation:CK= E*T*R/V*P*(AER+(Vd*(A/V), whereCK= Maximum Ozone Concentration g/ m3 within a kitchen installation,

19、 /V = Surface Area to Volume Ratio m2/m3 for a kitchen = 2.5.SB2.4.3 An appliance shall not produce a concentration of ozone as calculated by Clause SB2.4.2exceeding 0.050 parts per million by volume (107 g/ m3).SB3 Markings and InstructionsSB3.1 Appliances generating ozone shall be marked with the

20、following or equivalent:WARNING Risk of personal injury due to elevated ozone concentrations. Do not install thisappliance in a room with other ozone producing appliancesSB3.2 The cautionary marking of Clause SB3.1 shall be repeated in the installation instructions.SB3.3 The Important Safety Instruc

21、tions outlined in Clause 8.2.3 shall include the following, or equivalent:This appliance produces ozone within the washing compartment during normal operation. Long-term exposure to ozone or exposure at elevated levels may result in respiratory problems,especially for the infirmed, elderly and child

22、ren.SB4 Polymeric Materials Exposed to OzoneSB4.1 Exposure to ozone or a fluid mixture of ozone and water shall be considered with respect toevaluation of materials in accordance with Clause 30.7 of UL 749 as applicable. The conditioning specifiedfor Generated Ozone in the Test Considerations for En

23、d Use Applications Table in the Standard forGaskets and Seals, UL 157, shall be used for the samples in place of the conditioning specified in Clause30.7.1.SB5 Seals and DiaphragmsSTANDARD NUMBER: UL 749 -3-UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMIS

24、SION FROM ULSB5.1 If the deterioration or breakage of a liquid seal or the like could increase the risk of injury due toexposure to elevated ozone levels, the gasket or seal materials exposed to ozone or to a fluid mixture ofozone and water, in addition to complying with the requirements in Clause 2

25、2.9 of UL 749, shall complywith the Generated Ozone requirements specified in the Test Considerations for End Use ApplicationsTable in the Standard for Gaskets and Seals, UL 157.SB6 Protection against Injury to PersonsSB6.1 An ozone producing appliance shall be provided with:a) A means to prevent th

26、e opening of a loading door or drawer while ozone is being produced,orb) An interlock to stop ozone production when the door or drawer is opened.SB6.2 If the ozone concentrations generated within the washing compartment during operation exceed0.3 ppm averaged over 15 minutes, the appliance shall be:

27、a) Provided with a means to prevent opening of a loading door or drawer until the ozone levelshave been reduced below 0.3 ppm, orb) Constructed to prevent a transitory ozone concentration in excess of 0.1 ppm when the dooror drawer is opened.SB6.3 To determine the maximum internal washing compartmen

28、t ozone concentration, the appliance shallbe operated as outlined in the Ozone Emission Test of SB2.3. The measured concentration shall beaveraged over any 15 minutes of the ozone generating cycle. If the ozone generation cycle duration isless than 15 minutes, the 0.3 ppm limit shall be averaged ove

29、r the entire duration of the cycle. The ozonemeasurement shall be taken in the center of the bottom of the washing compartment or as low as possiblewithin the washing compartment without subjecting the sampling tube to water spray.SB6.4 To determine the maximum ozone concentration when the door or d

30、rawer is opened, the applianceshall be operated as outlined in the Ozone Emission Test of SB2.3. The door or drawer shall be fullyopened when the internal washing compartment has reached it maximum ozone concentration and theozone concentration measurements shall be started within 5 seconds. The mea

31、surements shall be takenin the plane of the door or drawer opening. For a door opening, the ozone sensor shall be centeredhorizontally and shall be located 1/3 of the vertical distance from the top of the opening. For a draweropening, the ozone sensor shall be centered horizontally and shall be loca

32、ted 1/3 of the depth distancefrom the front of the opening. A transitory concentration in excess of 0.050 ppm but less than 0.100 ppmis acceptable if the average of any five consecutive one minute average measurements is less than 0.050ppm.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:This certification requirement decisi

33、on was developed to investigate and test appliances which generateozone to assist in the cleaning process. These requirements were developed to address the physiologicaleffects of ozone exposure and the deteriorating influence on polymeric and elastomeric materials.With reference to the ozone emissi

34、on test calculations in Clause SB2.4, the minimum room volumerepresents a minimum anticipated usable kitchen size of 7.5 by 8 feet with an 8 foot ceiling; the airexchange rate represents the typical air exchange rate of a single family, relatively tight home constructionSTANDARD NUMBER: UL 749 -4-UL
