、RIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL INTRODUCTION 1 Scope 1.1 These requirements cover self-contained, payment-accepting, vending machines that vend non-refrigerated products to be employed in accordance with the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA

、70. Vending machines as covered by this standard are intended for indoor use only, except that they will be investigated for outdoor use or use in a protected location if so designated by the manufacturer. Vending machines may be battery operated. Vending machines may be battery operated and may be

、provided with a solar photovoltaic (PV) system. Refrigerated sections of vending machines that vend a non-refrigerated product are judged under the requirements for refrigerated vending machines. 1.2 These requirements also cover vending machines intended for installation within motor fuel dispensin

、g facilities in accordance with Supplement SA, Requirements for Vending Machines Intended for Installation within Motor Fuel Dispensing Facilities, and as dened by the Code for Motor Fuel Dispensing Facilities and Repair Garages, NFPA 30A. 1.3 These requirements do not cover sound-recording and repr

Values in parentheses are explanatory or approximate information. 3 Undated References 3.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this standard shall be interpret

、ed as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard. 4 Terminology 4.1 In the following text, a requirement that does not apply to all of the types of vending machines covered by this standard is identied by a specic reference in that requirement to the type or types of vending machine in

、volved. Absence of such specic reference or use of the term vending machine indicates that the requirement applies to all types of vending machines unless the context indicates otherwise. 4.2 Unless otherwise specied, values of voltage and current referred to are rms values. 38、rces from ammable materials, isolating moving parts and protection of wiring. 5.3 CABINET The part of the equipment that provides physical protection to insulated wiring, enclosures, moving parts, motors, enclosed electrical parts, tubing or other parts that may cause injury to persons. 5.4 CELL The

、 basic photovoltaic device that generates electricity when exposed to sunlight. 5.5 CHARGE CONTROLLER Equipment that controls dc voltage or dc current, or both, used to charge a battery. 5.6 COMPONENT A device or fabricated part of the vending machine covered by the scope of a safety standard dedica

、ted to that purpose. If incorporated in a vending machine, a product that is otherwise typically eld installed (e.g. luminaire) is considered to be a component. Unless otherwise specied, materials that compose a device or fabricated part, such as aluminum or copper, are not considered components. Ge

、nerally, components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance capabilities. Such components are intended for use only under specic, limited conditions, such as certain temperatures not exceeding specied limits. 5.7 CONTROL, OPERATING A device or assembly of devices, the op

For example, a thermostat, the failure of which a thermal cutout/limiter or another layer of protection would mitigate the risk of electric shock, is considered an operating control. Operating controls are also referred to

、 as regulating controls . Appendix A species control functions that are not considered to result in a risk of re, electric shock, or injury to persons. 5.8 CONTROL, PROTECTIVE A device or assembly of devices, the operation of which is intended to reduce the risk of re, electric shock, or injury to p

For example, a thermal cutout/limiter, or any other control/circuit relied upon for normal and abnormal conditions, is considered a protective control. Protective controls are also referred to as limiting controls o

、r safety controls and are investigated under normal and single-fault conditions. Appendix A species control functions that are considered to result in a risk of re, electric shock, or injury to persons. Such functions may also be dened as safety critical . 5.9 CONVERTER A device that accepts ac or d

、c power input and converts it to another form of ac or dc power. 5.10 ELECTRONIC COMPONENT A part in which electrical conduction is achieved principally by electrons moving through a vacuum, gas or semiconductor.
