3、Section / Paragraph Reference: See Individual DecisionsSubject: Revision to Permit Electronic Media for Installation Wiring Diagram.DECISION:90.1.1 The installation wiring diagram referenced in 90.1 and containing the information required in 90.2 90.12 shall be made available by one or more of the f

4、ollowing means:a) Marking attached to the product;b) Separate printed instructions;c) Electronic instructions within the basic product software; andd) Electronic media such as CD-ROM, thumb drive, website, etc. or equivalent.90.1.2 When the installation wiring diagram is included as described in 90.

5、1.1 (b), (c), and/or (d), theinstallation wiring diagram shall be referenced in the product marking by:a) Name of trademark of manufacturer;b) Drawing number and/or the equivalent identification; andc) Issue date, revision level, and/or release date.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:The National Fire Alarm and

6、 Signaling Code expanded the requirements for documentation in Chapter 7of NFPA 72-2013. Clause 7.2.1 (6) includes the manufacturers published instructions as part of theminimum required documentation and 7.5.3 (1) includes the owners manual and manufacturerspublished instructions covering all syste

7、m equipment as part of the completion documentation to bedelivered to the owner. Section 7.7 addresses record retention and specifically 7.7.1.4 stipulatesdocuments regarding system design and function to be included as required documents to be maintainedfor the life of the system and that the syste

8、m documents to be housed in the documentation cabinetrequired by section 7.7.2. Further, clause 7.7.2.2 indicates all record documentation shall be stored in thedocumentation cabinet.Inspection, Testing and Maintenance (Chapter 14) also covers records, specifically including “operationand maintenanc

9、e manuals” in the list of documents to be provided to the building owner or the ownersdesignated representative in 14.6.1.1. 10、ining those records for the life of the system for examination by any AHJ and permits thedocuments to be paper or electronic media. Based upon the 2013 edition of the Code, paragraph 90.1.1is proposed to be added to permit electronic media for the installation instructions required by Section 90.The

11、 following issues regarding the electronic media are addressed in the proposal:1. The installation documents need to be readily accessible for viewing by any AHJ, user, installer andowner. Clause 7.7.1.3 of NFPA 72-2013 stipulates related stored docs can be by any means “if hardcopies of the records

12、 can be provided promptly when requested.” Under the current proliferation and useof electronic media devices, displaying the information.2. The documentation needs to be consistent with the version/revision of the equipment installed. This isreinforced by the NFPA 72 Code requirement that the docum

13、entation is to be maintained for the life of thesystem. The concern is whether web based docs for earlier versions of the system equipment will still beaccessible years after the initial installation and whether web based documents will be available if theequipment manufacturer is no longer in busin

14、ess. UL 864 is an equipment standard. The last point ofreference is when product leaves the manufacturers facility. Even with physical electronic media, it is theowners responsibility to store the docs in current day compatible media over the life of the system. Thisextends to the web-based media is
