3、 SASubject: Smart Enabled HumidifiersDECISION:(New Supplement)SUPPLEMENT SA SMART ENABLED HUMIDIFIERSSA1 ScopeSA1.1 These requirements apply to humidifiers intended to receive and respond to communication signalsor data relating to power billing rate or demand response or communication signals from

4、a remote userinterface, such as a smart phone or computer.SA1.2 Appliances covered by SA1.1 are commonly identified as smart appliances or smart enabledand are intended to interact with the Smart Grid, as described by the US Energy Independence andSecurity Act of 2007, or other communication network

5、s not identified as Smart Grid.SA1.3 These requirements contemplate smart enabled technology as described by the U. S. EnergyIndependence and Security Act of 2007 that is integral with the appliance or incorporated as an accessory(wired to the appliance or wireless with a corresponding appliance rec

6、eiver) on the appliance or in thesame occupancy as the appliance.SA1.4 These requirements supplement those specified in this Standard.SA1.5 These requirements encompass accessory devices to which multiple appliances may communicateand be smart enabled by providing direction for investigation of such

7、 devices in addition to therequirements of standards generally applicable to those devices.SA1.6 These requirements do not address the integrity of any output signal or data to the network devicesor interoperability with other devices.SA1.7 These requirements do not apply to communication network de

8、vices that control appliances viageneral purpose power ON/OFF, building wiring devices, panelboard mounted devices, or utility meters.SA1.8 These requirements apply to wired or wireless remote commands from the user by way of:a) Controls only capable of communicating within line-of-sight of the appl

9、iance (e.g. infraredwireless);UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULb) Short range controls only capable of communicating within proximity or same occupancy ofthe appliance but not necessarily within line-of-sight (e.g. short-wave ra

10、dio frequency); orc) Long range telecommunication controls without proximity limits (e.g. WiFi, local areanetworks, wide area networks).SA1.9 These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following remote initiated functions:a) Monitored status (e.g. ON/OFF, timer, etc.);b) Humidity ON;c)

11、Setting adjustment decrease;d) Setting adjustment increase;e) Cancel timer humidity ON;f) Extended delay timer humidity ON;g) Cancel timer humidity OFF;h) Extended delay timer humidity OFF; andi) Humidity OFF.CONSTRUCTIONSA2 GeneralSA2.1 ControlsSA2.1.1 Controls that respond to external communicatio

12、n signals or data shall comply with theconstruction and performance requirements of the Standard for Automatic Controls for Household andSimilar Use, Part 1: General Requirements, UL 60730-1, and tested as an operating (regulating) controlutilizing the parameters specified in Table SA1. If the contr

13、ol also incorporates protective (limiting)functions, these control functions shall be evaluated to the requirements for protective controls.SA2.1.2 With respect to SA2.1.1, the requirement is not applicable to controls located in low voltagecircuits where the maximum power available does not exceed

14、15 W. This does not exempt the controlfrom investigation for compliance with SA3.1.SA2.1.3 With respect to SA2.1.1, compliance with the Standard for Solid-State Controls for Appliances,UL 244A, taking into account criteria comparable to that specified in Table SA1 is considered to fulfill thisrequir

15、ement.SA2.1.4 With respect to SA2.1.1, a communication device that is not integral with the appliance control(e.g. on a separate printed wiring board) and complying with the Standard for Information TechnologyEquipment - Safety - Part 1: General Requirements, UL 60950-1, is considered to fulfill thi

22、aration of CircuitsSA2.2.1 The separation of communication circuits from power and control circuits shall be evaluated forrisk of electric shock in accordance with Section 29.SA2.2.2 With respect to SA2.2.1, compliance with the separation of circuit requirements of the Standardfor:a) Automatic Contr

23、ols for Household and Similar Use, Part 1: General Requirements, UL60730-1; orb) Information Technology Equipment - Safety - Part 1: General Requirements, UL 60950-1 isconsidered to fulfill this requirement.SA2.3 Communication and Display DevicesSA2.3.1 An external communication or display device, s

24、uch as a router or monitor, provided as anaccessory for use with the appliance, shall comply with the Standard for Information TechnologyEquipment - Safety - Part 1: General Requirements, UL 60950-1.SA2.3.2 The power supply cord of an external communication or display device shall comply with thisSt

25、andard or the Standard for Information Technology Equipment - Safety - Part 1: General Requirements,UL 60950-1, except Types NISP-2, NISPE-2, NISPT-2 are not permitted.SA2.3.3 With respect to SA2.3.2, the requirement is not applicable to external communication or displaydevices powered via connectio

26、n to communication or data ports on the appliance which are located in lowvoltage circuits. See SA2.4.STANDARD NUMBER: UL 998 -3-UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULSA2.3.4 If the external communication or display device is grounde

27、d via bonding with the applianceenclosure, the bonding requirements of this Standard shall be applied.SA2.3.5 Grounding connections for external communication or display devices shall be made beforepower connections and shall disconnect only after power connections are disconnected (make first, brea

28、klast).SA2.3.6 Functional grounding shall not be relied upon for equipment grounding or bonding. Functionalgrounding is grounding of a point in an appliance or in a system, which is necessary for a purpose otherthan safety.SA2.3.7 When power is supplied to an external communication or display device

29、 by an interconnectingsupply cord, it shall comply with 21.2 21.4 and 21.6 of this Standard and be supplied with a bushing(s)and strain relief as described in Sections 22 and 23.SA2.4 Communication Conductors and CablesSA2.4.1 External communication conductors and cables shall comply with the Standa

30、rd for InformationTechnology Equipment - Safety - Part 1: General Requirements, UL 60950-1.SA2.4.2 Communication conductors and cables within the appliance shall be evaluated as internal wiringin accordance with this appliance standard.SA2.5 Communication ConnectorsSA2.5.1 Communication connectors a

31、nd data ports accessible to the user and service personnel shallcomply with the Standard for Information Technology Equipment - Safety - Part 1: General Requirements,UL 60950-1. Otherwise, communication connectors and data ports shall be evaluated in accordance withthis Standard.SA2.5.2 With the exc

32、eption of communication-on-power-line technology, an appliance plug, flatiron plug,jumbo appliance plug, motor attachment plug or other conventional power cord connectors, such asNEMA or IEC standardized configurations, shall not be used for communication circuit connections.SA2.6 Smart Enabled or R

33、emote OperationSA2.6.1 Any functionality enabled in response to external communication or data signals shall beconsidered when determining the normal and abnormal conditions of the appliance.SA2.6.2 The appliance shall include a means for the consumer to override any smart enabled or remoteoperation

34、 commands. A flexible supply cord with an attachment plug can serve as the override means ifthe appliance:a) Is portable;b) Does not employ a motor rated more than 1/3 HP (250 W output);c) Does not have a switch or control with a marked OFF position; andd) Is provided with instructions for unpluggin

35、g the appliance to override smart enabled orremote functions.STANDARD NUMBER: UL 998 -4-UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULSA2.6.3 A control on the appliance shall require manual adjusted setting before the appliance can beoperate

36、d in a smart enabled or remote operation mode. Examples for initiating this setting include, but arenot limited to, pressing a button, pressing and holding a button, activating a switch or latch, set-up andconnection to a local WiFi network, etc. Once a smart or remote operation mode is enabled, it

37、may remainin this state until mode of operation is manually disabled. See SA3.3.Exception No. 1: Not applicable to a control only capable of communicating to the appliance withinline-of-sight.Exception No. 2: Not applicable to appliances with remote functions limited to monitoring only.SA3 Functiona

38、l SafetySA3.1 Controls actuated in response to external communication or data signals shall not introduce ahazardous operating condition or a state that may lead to a hazardous operating condition beyond thatwhich exists through manual controls and operating conditions.SA3.2 With respect to SA3.1, t

39、he control shall not:a) Render inoperative any protective control or protective control function within the appliance;b) Alter the response to or expected performance of user actuation of controls, movement ofdoors, covers or lids or contact with external and functional surfaces of the appliance res

40、ultingin exposure of hazardous electrical parts, moving parts, normally inaccessible hot parts, orradiation;c) Alter the order of appliance control response (e.g. force a protective control to operate wherenormally another control would respond reset any protective manual reset temperature controlor

41、 shutoff feature); ord) Supersede the response of any protective (limiting) control.SA3.3 Compliance with SA2.6.3 and SA3.1 shall be determined using methods appropriate fordetermining the performance and reliability of protective control functions in accordance with Section 37,38, and 40.SA3.4 With

42、 respect to SA3.3, the performance and reliability evaluation is not required if it is obvious fromexamination of circuit diagram(s) that the control operates wholly independent of the appliance protectivecontrol(s) and therefore is incapable of adversely affecting their operation.SA4 Resistance to

43、Electro Magnetic Phenomena (Immunity)SA4.1 The appliance protective (limiting) control functions shall remain operable when subjected toconducted or radiated emissions from integral communication circuitry of the smart enabled control or anyaccessory thereof.SA4.2 Compliance with SA4.1 is determined

44、 using the communication circuit source(s) adjusted to itsmaximum factory setting(s) in addition to any intermediate settings that are determined to present a riskto the acceptable operation of the protective control function. The protective (limiting) control function shallbe tested in accordance w

45、ith H.26.4 - H26.14 of the Standard for Automatic Controls for Household andSimilar Use, Part 1: General Requirements, UL 60730-1, as appropriate.STANDARD NUMBER: UL 998 -5-UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULSA4.3 With respect to

46、SA4.2, if it is determined that the source within the appliance or its accessory(ies)produces emissions addressed by the standard test conditions of H.26 of the Standard for AutomaticControls for Household and Similar Use, Part 1: General Requirements, UL 60730-1, it is not necessaryto repeat the te

47、sts.SA5 Markings and InstructionsSA5.1 Accessory devices shall be marked with the manufacturers name (or symbol), a part or catalognumber, and electrical ratings. Literature packaged with the accessory shall identify the appliance(s) forwhich it is intended to be used. Additional literature or marki

48、ngs shall be required, as applicable, when theStandard for Automatic Controls for Household and Similar Use, Part 1: General Requirements, UL60730-1 and / or the Standard for Information Technology Equipment - Safety - Part 1: GeneralRequirements, UL 60950-1 requirements are applied.SA5.2 With respe

49、ct to SA5.1, accessories not affecting compliance of the appliance with SA3 need not beidentify the intended appliances.SA5.3 With respect to SA5.1, battery operated devices may be marked with information identifying theappropriate battery(ies) in lieu of electrical ratings.SA5.4 All electrical and communication cable connections shall be identified for their purpose.SA5.5 Literature packaged with the appliance shall identify the intended accessory device(s). A specificpart or catalog number is not required if the manufacturer identifies a family of devices and limits
