7、forresidential type and building heating appliances to a masonry fireplace or a masonry chimney constructedin accordance with Standard for Chimneys, Fireplaces, Vents, and Solid Fuel-Burning Appliances, NFPA211, and applicable codes such as International Residential Code (IRC), International Mechani
8、cal Code(IMC) and Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC).1.2 Masonry fireplace adapters covered by these requirements comply with either a 1700F (927C)flue-gas temperature test or a 2100F (1149C) flue-gas temperature test, at the manufacturers option.1.3 Masonry fireplace adapters intended for residential in
9、stallations shall comply with section 9.2 of thisoutline of investigation and the Enclosed Chimney Installations Temperature Tests of the Standard forFactory-Built Chimneys for Residential Type and Building Heating Appliances, UL 103.1.4 Masonry fireplace adapters evaluated to these requirements are
10、 not intended for use with factory-builtfireplaces.1.5 Fireplace adapters intended for use with factory-built are to be evaluated according to therequirements of the Standard for Factory-Built Fireplaces, UL 127.1.6 Masonry fireplace adapters covered by these requirements may be provided with an int
11、egralnonregulating fireplace damper.1.7 Chimneys and chimney systems intended for use with masonry fireplace adapters covered by theserequirements are evaluated according to the Standard for Factory-Built Chimneys for Residential Typeand Building Heating Appliances, UL 103.1.8 These requirements do
12、not cover seismic or structural securement of the fireplace adapter andchimney assembly to the masonry fireplace. Refer to applicable codes for these requirements.2 Components2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product covered by this outline shall comply with therequirements for that c
13、omponent.2.2 A component need not comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not needed in the application of the component in thevalue covered by this outline, orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this outline.2.3 A component shall be used in accordance with i

17、LACE DAMPER A plate used to stop the flow of air or the flow of flue-gas air mixturesfrom inside a fireplace to the outdoors.5.3 HEATING APPLIANCE A chimney-connected, fuel-burning device.5.4 MASONRY CHIMNEY A field constructed chimney of solid masonry units, bricks, stones, orreinforced - portland-
18、cement concrete, lined with chimney flue liners built in accordance with applicablebuilding code requirements.5.5 MASONRY FIREPLACE A field-constructed assembly constructed in accordance with theStandard for Chimneys, Fireplaces, Vents, and Solid Fuel- Burning Appliances, NFPA 211, and inaccordance
19、with the International Residential Code (IRC).5.6 NONREGULATING FIREPLACE DAMPER A fireplace damper operated by a linkage or othermechanism constructed so that it may remain in the full closed or full open position and attempts toplace the damper in any position between open and closed results in th

21、ctory-Built Chimneys for Residential Type and Building Heating Appliances, UL 103.6.2 Fireplace damper plates, pivots, supports, and fasteners shall be constructed of materials equivalentin strength and corrosion resistance to at least No. 20 MSG (0.036 in. nominal) thickness stainless steel.7 Assem
22、bly7.1 A masonry fireplace adapter shall comply with the “Assembly” Section of the Standard forFactory-Built Chimneys for Residential Type and Building Heating Appliances, UL 103.7.2 A masonry fireplace adapter shall be completely assembled by the manufacturer at the factory.7.3 A masonry fireplace
23、adapter shall comply with the “Joints” Section of the Standard for Factory-BuiltChimneys for Residential Type and Building Heating Appliances, UL 103.7.4 A masonry fireplace adapter shall comply with the “Openings in Chimney Walls” Section of theStandard for Factory-Built Chimneys for Residential Ty
24、pe and Building Heating Appliances, UL 103.7.5 A fireplace damper shall be designed for one-handed operation without the use of tools.7.6 A tool may be provided but not relied upon for the intended operation.7.7 A fireplace damper shall have no features or obvious modifications providing for setting
25、 or latchingthe damper in intermediate positions between designed open and closed positions.7.8 A fireplace damper operated by a linkage or other mechanism shall be constructed so that breakageof a part results in the damper moving to its designed open position, see Opening Test, 18.3.7.9 A masonry
26、fireplace adapter shall provide accessibility for chimney cleaning purposes. Accessibilityfor cleaning purposes above the damper plate shall be provided by one of the following methods:a) A damper plate that can be removed and reinstalled with common hand tools; orb) A clean-out opening located to p
27、rovide access above the damper.7.10 A masonry fireplace adapter shall function as intended when connected to the chimney systembefore and after the Performance Section of these requirements.7.11 Removable fireplace damper plates and linkage shall be designed for reassembly in only theintended positi
28、on. 29、UT PERMISSION FROM UL7.12 When a fireplace damper assembly employs a spring to comply with the requirements of this outline,the spring shall not be exposed to flue gasses and shall be accessible for inspection and replacementafter installation.PERFORMANCE8 General8.1 When tested in accordance with t
30、hese requirements, specified temperatures on combustibleconstruction shall be maintained.8.2 After being subjected to the tests specified in Sections 11 18, as applicable, a masonry fireplaceadapter and damper shall be capable of being used further.8.3 Test results indicating compliance with the req
31、uirement of 8.2 include the following:a) No part of the assembly has become damaged or permanently distorted to an extent that itor the chimney assembly does not continue to function as intended.b) The effectiveness of any required protective coating or finish on metal parts has not beenreduced.c) A
32、 ceramic material shows no evidence of cracking, disintegration, or spalling to the extentthat serviceability of any part of an assembly has been impaired.d) The reflectivity of a surface has not been impaired when the reflectivity is utilized to reducethe risk of fire.e) Burning or scaling of metal
33、 parts is not evident upon visual observation.Exception: Scaling of chimney flue liner and damper blade material that does not impair thefunction of the assembly is permitted after exposure to the Temperature Test specified in Section15.f) The effectiveness of insulating material has not been reduce
34、d.g) Releasing a fireplace damper from the closed position results in the damper moving to itsdesigned open position.8.4 Thermal insulation shall comply with the following requirements during and following tests on thechimney:a) The products resulting from the combustion or volatilization of any com
35、bustible binder shallbe discharged to the chimney terminus outside of the building.b) The insulating material shall remain in its intended position.c) The thermal conductivity of the insulating material shall not be increased.d) The thermal insulation shall not show evidence of softening, melting, o

37、ilt chimneyfireplace adapter:a) For a chimney intended to be enclosed by combustible construction:1) Size and type of chimney, fireplace, adapter or damper assembly;2) Minimum and maximum height in feet (m) of chimney;3) Minimum clearance to combustible construction, and;4) Size and type of fireplac
38、e damper.b) For an unenclosed chimney installation:1) Size and type of chimney and fireplace adapter;2) Minimum and maximum height in feet (m) of chimney, and;3) Size and type of fireplace damper.9.2 Enclosed chimney installations (residential type and building heating appliance chimney)9.2.1 Masonr
