13、FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULINTRODUCTION1 Scope1.1 The requirements in this outline of investigation apply to the design, construction, and operatingcharacteristics of electrical power switch devices used in a marine application.1.2 Switch devices covered by this te

14、sting outline are intended to be installed in accordance with theapplicable standards of the American Boat and Yacht Council, Inc., and/or the Fire Protection Standardsfor Motor Craft, NFPA 302.2 Components2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product covered by this outline of investigat

15、ion shallcomply with the requirements for that component.2.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this outline of investigation, orb) Is superseded by a

16、 required in this outline of investigation.2.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse.2.4 Specific components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance capabilities.Such components are intended for use only und

17、er limited conditions, such as certain temperatures notexceeding specified limits, and shall be used only under those specific conditions.3 Units of Measurement3.1 Values stated without parentheses are the requirement. 19、on of that code or standard.CONSTRUCTION5 General5.1 The materials used for fabrication and construction of these devices shall be in conformity withaccepted and recommended engineering standards.5.2 Current-carrying parts of the device including terminals, nuts and washers, shall be fabricated of a

20、suitable grade copper, bronze, brass, or other corrosion-resistant metal or alloy having appropriateelectrical properties and be of ample dimension to carry the rated currents without overheating.5.3 Non-metallic materials used for the base, housing, and other parts or the device shall:a) Have adequ

21、ate strength and rigidity to resist the stresses and strains to which they aresubjected in service;b) Be resistant to deterioration by gasoline, oil, salt water, or other materials or agents to whichthe switch are exposed during normal use;c) Be of a material that has sufficient dielectric strength

22、to withstand the test outlined in Section11, Dielectric Strength Test, of this outline; andd) Be capable of normal service within an ambient storage temperature range of -30C (-22F)and an operating ambient temperature of 60C (140F) without failure due to cracking, warpingor softening of parts, that

23、is detrimental to its operation.5.4 Terminals shall be installed so that they are not able to be inadvertently loosened.5.5 The spacing of terminals or other exposed live-metal parts shall conform with the minimum spacingrequirements in Table 5.1.APRIL 18, 2002SUBJECT 11076UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NO

Howe

27、ver, a continuous current rating shall not exceed current rating of the largest strandedthermoplastic insulated copper conductor which are able to be properly secured to the terminals withstandard pressure connectors or lugs. The current rating of the conductor shall be based on the NationalElectric

30、ators shall be sodesigned to avoid current interruption of operating generators.5.8 Manually operated switch devices shall be provided with detents or other suitable means to indicatecorrect positioning of the switch.5.9 Remotely operated switch devices shall be provided with a positive means of ind

32、le vapors or gases which surround the device in service. It is not intended to require that thedevice be explosion-proof as that term is defined by the National Electrical Code. All switches intendedfor installation in potentially hazardous locations, shall be capable of passing the Dielectric Stren

33、gth Testin Section 11.5.11 Provisions shall be made for rigid independent mounting by means of screws or bolts. Screws andbolts used for this purpose shall be positioned to avoid current leakage from current carrying parts of thedevice or cable connectors.PERFORMANCE6 General6.1 Switch devices shall

34、 comply with the following tests without failure. For purposes of these tests, themanufacturer shall provide two (2) production samples which are picked at random from stock. Samplesused for testing shall include all parts required for normal operation, including remote controls.6.2 One sample shall

35、 be used for a construction examination, and the second sample shall be subjectedto the tests described in Sections713.7 Electrical Rating Test7.1 Using a suitable power source and resistive load capable of sustaining the required current, connectthe devices in series with one conductor so that the

36、required test current passes through the switchcontacts.7.2 With the switch contacts under test (closed), connect the power source (AC or DC) and adjust theload so that the switch contacts carry 110 percent of its continuous current rating. This current shall bemaintained for a period of one (1) hou

37、r. During the test period, temperature readings shall be taken at thecontrol handle, the terminals and at various points around the device housing. Temperatures recordedshall not exceed the values listed in Table 5.2.7.3 After the device cools, a current equal to 110 percent of the intermittent rati

38、ng or 150 percent of thecontinuous rating, whichever is greater, shall be applied. The current shall be applied for a continuous five(5) minute period while the temperature rise of the control knob, housing, and terminals are monitored.7.4 Temperature rises shall not exceed those listed in Table 5.2

39、.APRIL 18, 2002SUBJECT 11078UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL8 Vibration Test8.1 The device used in the electrical rating test shall be mounted to a suitable wooden test fixture so thatthe device shall be in its normal operating

40、 position during the test. The assembly is to be secured to thesurface of a vibration machine. Electrical connections are to be made to a power source with a loadadjusted to draw 110 percent of the continuous current rating of the switch contacts.8.2 The device, including all controls is to be vibra

41、ted for a period of twelve (12) hours; four (4) hours ineach of the x, y, and z planes. The vibration table shall be set at 0.020 inches double amplitude. Thevibration machine shall be continuously cycled between 10 to 60 back to 10 Hz at a uniform cycle rate offour (4) minutes per cycle. During the

42、 final hour of vibration in each plane, current at 110 percent of thedevices continuous amperage rating shall be applied. Temperature rises should not exceed therecommended maximums listed in Table 5.2.9 Shock Test9.1 The device used in the previous test, secured to the same test fixture, with the s

43、ame electricalconnections, shall be secured to the surface of a shock table in its normal operating position with a 1/8inch (3.2 mm) shim under one corner.9.2 The device shall be subjected to a minimum of 5000 vertical impacts of 10 g having a duration of20 25 milliseconds measured at the base of th

44、e half sine wave shock envelope. Following the test, acurrent equal to 110 percent of the continuous rating shall be applied for a time period sufficient for thedevice to reach temperature equilibrium. The temperature of critical areas should not exceed the limitsestablished in Table 5.2.10 Temperat

45、ure Environmental Test10.1 Place the device in a cold chamber at -30C (-22F) for a period in excess of 24 hours. Immediatelyupon removal from the cold chamber, the device shall be mechanically operated and within 5 secondssubjected to shock by dropping the unit from a height of 3 feet (1 m) on a 3/4

46、 inch (19.1 mm) plywoodflooring.10.2 Place the same device in an air circulating oven maintained at 60C (140F) for a period in excessof 24 hours. Immediately upon removal from the oven the device shall be mechanically operated andchecked for softening and physical deformation.10.3 Minor chipping of

48、 Strength Test11.1 The device used in the temperature environmental test shall be subjected to these tests. There shall be no arc-overs in the ACtests.12 Ignition Test12.1 An electric power switch intended for use in an area
