、ed as described in 7.3.2 7.3.5 and then shall withstand a pressure of300 psig (2070 kPa) for 15 minutes without showing visible evidence of leakage as described in 7.3.5.7.3.2 For gasoline and gasoline/ethanol blend applications up to 10% ethanol, the assembly is to be filledto a predetermined level
、 approximately 1 inch (25.4 mm) from the top of the assembly with a measuredamount of ASTM Reference Fuel H and connected in the vertical position to a header. The assembly shallbe maintained in the vertical position throughout the test period. The header is to be provided with anair-pressure gauge
、and connected through pressure reducers to a compressed air line. The pressurereducer is to be adjusted to supply a pressure of 75 psig (517 kPa) to the header and pipe assembly.7.3.3 If leakage is observed at any of the joints within 24 hours, the assembly shall be disconnected fromthe header, empt

The assembly shall then be refilled with test fuel, connected to the header, and the pressure reapplied. If leakage is not stopped with this further tightening, unacceptableper
、formance shall be recorded and testing shall be discontinued.7.3.4 If no initial leakage is observed during the 24-hour period following sealing or re-sealing, thepressure is to be maintained at 75 psig (517 kPa) for a total of 240 hours, during which time periodicobservations are to be made for evi
、dence of leakage.7.3.5 At the end of the 240-hour period, the assembly is to be carefully depressurized to prevent suddenoutgassing of air and loss of fuel, after which it shall be removed from the header and the amount of fuelneeded to restore the original level shall be measured.7.3.6 The assembly
、 shall then be emptied of fuel, filled with water and subjected to a pressure of 300 psig(2070 kPa) for 15 minutes during which time it shall be observed for leakage.7.3.7 Acceptable test performance with respect to testing with ASTM Reference Fuel H is considered tocover also the suitability of the
、 product for use with naphtha, benzene, kerosene, and petroleum oils.7.3.8 For E25 applications (ethanol/gasoline blends from 0 to 25% ethanol), the product shall beevaluated in accordance with 7.3.1 7.3.6 using the E25a test fluid in place of ASTM Reference Fuel H.For E85 applications (ethanol/gaso
、line blends from 0 to 85% ethanol), the product shall be evaluated inaccordance with 7.3.1 7.3.6 in two separate assemblies, one filled with E25a test fluid and the otherfilled with E85a test fluid in place of ASTM Reference Fuel H. The formulation of these test fluids isdescribed in E25a and E85a T
、est Fluids, Supplement SA. To establish an E85 rating, the product shallcomply with the maximum fuel loss requirement with both test fluids. Acceptable test performance withrespect to testing with E25a test fluid is considered to cover also the suitability of the product for use withgasoline, naphth
、a, benzene, kerosene, and petroleum oils.7.3.9 For B20 applications (biodiesel/diesel fuel blends from 0 to 20% biodiesel), the product shall beevaluated in accordance with 7.3.1 7.3.6 using FB25a test fluid in place of ASTM Reference Fuel H. ForB99.9 B100 applications (biodiesel), the product shall
、 be evaluated in accordance with 7.3.1 7.3.6using B100a test fluid in place of ASTM Reference Fuel H. The formulation of these test fluids is describedin B20 and B99.9/B100 Test Fluids, Supplement SB. Acceptable test performance with respect to testingwith FB25a is considered also to cover the suita

Acceptabletest performance is considered also to cover the suitability of this product for use with natural gas at apressure not exceeding 100 psig (690 kPa) and butane.7.4.2 The sealed assembly
、shall be cooled in a cold chamber to a temperature of minus 30 to minus 40C(minus 22 to minus 40F) and then filled to about 3/4 capacity with liquefied propane. The assembly shallbe sealed with the product using a ” cap.7.4.3 After being filled and closed, each assembly shall be allowed to stand at
、room temperature for 4hours and then immersed in water at room temperature. If leakage is observed at any of the joints within24 hours, the leaking joints are to be retightened to the prescribed torque, with care taken not to disturbthe other joints. The test shall be continued regardless of whether
、 a seal was achieved.7.4.4 The assembly shall be blotted dry with a towel and allowed to stand at room temperature until aconstant weight is achieved but not more than 4 hours, and then weighed and placed for 168 hours in awell-ventilated room maintained at a temperature of 23.0C (73.4F). This tempe
、rature corresponds to apressure of 116 psig (800 kPa) for propane. The assembly shall be weighed at the end of this period, orprior to it if significant leakage is noted. If propane loss exceeds 1.9 g, unacceptable performance shall berecorded and the tests shall be discontinued.7.4.5 If after 168 h
、ours the assembly weight loss is 1.9 g or less, the assembly shall be placed in achamber maintained at a temperature of 48.9C (120F) for 168 hours. This temperature corresponds toa pressure of 225 psig (1552 kPa) for propane. At the end of this time or prior to it if significant leakageis noted, the
、 assembly shall be weighed to determine the loss of propane. If at any point the total propaneloss exceeds 3.7 g, the test shall be discontinued.7.5 Test for 300 psig (2070 kPa) natural gas applications7.5.1 A pipe assembly constructed and initially tested as described in 7.1.1 7.2.4 shall not have
、leakedmore than 3100 milliliters of gas over a period of 336 hours when tested as described in 7.5.2 7.5.4.7.5.2 The assembly shall be connected at the side arm to a source of methane and placed in a verticalposition in a water bath maintained at 23.0C (73.4F). A water-filled, inverted, graduated cy
、linder of 2-litercapacity and a funnel of sufficient size to collect all bubbles of escaping gas shall be mounted in the bathabove the assembly. The assembly shall then be pressurized with methane to 450 psig (3100 kPa) andobserved for leakage.7.5.3 If leakage is observed within the first 24 hours,
、an attempt shall made to seal the assembly bydisconnecting it from the methane, retightening the leaking joints to the prescribed torque, placing theassembly back in the water bath and re-pressurizing it for 336 hours, disregarding leakage prior toretightening. The test shall be continued regardless of whether a seal was achieved.7.5.4 At the end of 336 hours, or before, if necessary, the volume of gas collected shall be determinedafter equalizing the water level in the cylinder to the level of water in the bath.
