、protecting commercial cooking equipment, hoods, and plenums in accordance with the Standard forSprinkler Systems, NFPA 13. In the event of sprinkler or nozzle discharge in the cooking equipmentprotection area, the cabinet senses the water flow and interrupts the source of fuel to the cookingequipmen
、t by means of actuation of a solenoid valve, electric contactor, or the like.1.2 The cabinet may contain optional features such as a supervised shut-off valve, water pressure andflow monitoring devices, and alarm components.1.3 Pressure containing devices within the control cabinet shall have a mini
、mum rated pressure of 175psig (1200 kPa).1.4 A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or differentfrom those covered by the requirements in this Outline of Investigation, and that involve a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons shall be eva
、luated using the appropriate additional component andend-product requirements as determined necessary to maintain the acceptable level of safety as originallyanticipated by the intent of this Outline of Investigation. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems confli
、ct with specific requirements or provisions of this Outline ofInvestigation cannot be judged to comply with this Outline of Investigation. Where considered appropriate, revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed fordevelopment, revision, and implem
、entation of this Outline of Investigation.2 Components2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product covered by this Outline of Investigation shallcomply with the requirements for that component. See Appendix A for a list of standards coveringcomponents generally used in the products cover
、ed by this Outline of Investigation.2.2 A component need not comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not needed in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this Outline of Investigation; orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this Outline of I
、nvestigation.2.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its recognized rating established for the intendedconditions of use.2.4 Specific components are recognized as being incomplete in construction features or restricted inperformance capabilities. Such components are intended for use only un
、der limited conditions, such ascertain temperatures not exceeding specified limits, and shall be used only under those specific conditionsfor which they have been recognized.JULY 30, 2015UL 199B4UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL
、3 Units of Measurement3.1 If a value for measurement is followed by a value in other units in parentheses, the second value maybe only approximate. The first stated value is the requirement.PERFORMANCE4 General4.1 The tests described in Sections59,andother applicable electrical tests, shall be condu
、cted on acabinet which is assembled utilizing the minimum clearances for electrical components as specified by themanufacturer.5 Normal Operation Test5.1 The control cabinet is to be mounted in its intended installation position and electrically connected inaccordance with the manufacturers installa
、tion instructions.5.2 The electrical system is to be connected as instructed and a variable hydrostatic pressure and flowsource connected to the input pipe of the hydraulic system. The output is connected to a release valveand throttle valve.5.3 Starting with the pressure of 0 psig (0 kPa), the pres
、sure is to be slowly increased to the ratedpressure and operated. The operation is to be noted and shall compare to the manufacturers instructions.Water flow is then to be established to simulate sprinkler operation. Operation of the cabinet is again tobe noted and shall compare to the manufacturers
、 instructions.6 Variable Voltage Operation Test6.1 With the system connected as described in the Normal Operation Test, Section 5, the system is to besubjected to a reduced and increased voltage and observed for normal operation. The system shalloperate as intended when subjected to 85 percent of ra
、ted voltage and at 110 percent of rated voltage.7 Endurance Test7.1 The system is to be connected as described in the Normal Operation Test, Section 5, and thenoperated for 6000 cycles of operation resetting. During the cycling endurance the pipe system is to bepressurized to a maximum pressure of 8
、0 psig (550 kPa). Relay contacts are connected to rated current, rated voltage, voltage and a 0.6 power factor.7.2 Upon completion of the cycling test, the system operation is to be examined for normal signalingperformance and the condition of the relay contacts. There shall be no pitting or sticking
、 of contacts.JULY 30, 2015 UL 199B 5UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL8 Overload Test8.1 This test is to be conducted in the same manner as the Endurance Test, Section 7, except the systemis to be subjected to 50 cycles of overlo
、ad, whereby the electrical load on each relay contact is to beincreased. The rated voltage is to be applied, and 1-1/2 times rated current with 0.6 power factor is appliedto the relay contacts.8.2 Upon completion of the 50 cycles of overload, the system operation is to be examined for its normalsign
、aling performance and condition of the relay contacts. There shall be no pitting or sticking of contacts.9 Dielectric Withstand Test9.1 After the Endurance Test, Section 7, the system mounted in a representative cabinet is to besubjected to an alternating potential as specified in Table 9.1. The pot
、ential is to be applied between allcurrent-carrying parts and the enclosure. The alternating test potential is to be started at 0 and graduallyincreased until the test value specified in Table 9.1 is reached and held 1 minute.Table 9.1Rating, volts rms Dielectric test voltage, volts30 50031 250 1000
、Greater than 250 1000 + (2 x Rating)10 Hydraulic Friction Loss Test10.1 A sample of the cabinet pipe system, equipped with the maximum length of pipe and all thecomponents (shut-off valve, gauge, water flow switch, and the like), is to be installed in a hydraulic frictionloss test apparatus. A diffe
、rential pressure gauge or measuring device is to be connected to onepiezometer fitting located at the inlet line of the cabinet and the other to the outlet connection of thecabinet. The flow is to be measured by a calibrated flowmeter connected to the pipeline upstream of theinlet connection to the
、cabinet. The flow is to be controlled by a valve connected downstream from thesample and piezometers.10.2 The piezometers are then removed from the cabinet, coupled together and the test repeated. Thenet hydraulic friction loss of the cabinet is to be obtained by subtracting the losses through the p
、iezometerfittings alone from the losses through the cabinet. The loss values are converted to equivalent length, expressed in feet of Schedule 40 pipe based upon the size of the inlet connection, and published forinstallation purposes.JULY 30, 2015UL 199B6UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FU
、RTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL11 Leakage Test11.1 The sample cabinet is to be attached to a hydrostatic pressure supply and vented of air. Ahydrostatic pressure of twice the rated pressure is to be applied. Observations are to be made for anyleakage through the piping o
、r components for a duration of 1 minute. There shall be no leakage throughjoints or components.12 Hydrostatic Pressure Test12.1 Following the Leakage Test, Section 11, the pressure in the control cabinet is to be graduallyincreased to five times the rated pressure and held for a duration of 1 minute
、. There shall be no ruptureor deformation of the piping or components within the cabinet.13 Shut-Off Valve Tests13.1 Valves shall comply with the Outline of Investigation for Shutoff Valves for Trim and Drain Purposes,Subject 258, or other applicable standards.MARKINGS14 General14.1 Each cabinet sha
