7、ents cover the fire testing of specific application sprinklers for use on non-operablewindows when the sprinklers are installed in accordance with the manufacturers instructions and theStandard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, NFPA 13.1.2 Sprinklers investigated in accordance with this Out

8、line shall also comply with the applicablerequirements in the Standard for Automatic Sprinklers for Fire-Protection Service, UL 199, not includingthe fire and water distribution tests.1.3 The requirements described herein are intended to investigate the ability of the sprinklers to providewater on t

9、he surface of a window to limit the transmission of heat from a fire to the glazing material andmaintain the integrity of the window.1.4 These sprinklers have not been investigated for use as a substitute for fire protection rated glazingmaterials investigated in accordance with ANSI/UL 9, Fire Test

10、s of Window Assemblies.2 Components2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product covered by this Outline shall comply with therequirements for that component.2.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in

11、the application of the component in theproduct covered by this Outline, orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this Outline.2.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse.2.4 Specific components are incomplete in construction features or res

15、rotect heat strengthened, tempered glazing materials with instructions to keepcombustibles at least 2 inches (50.8 mm) away from glazing surface shall be tested in accordance withULC/ORD-C263.1-99, Sprinkler Protected Window Systems using the minimum glazing thicknessspecified in the manufacturers i

16、nstallation instructions.Exception: A gas burner arrangement that is different from the arrangement described inULC/ORD-C263.1-99 shall be permitted to be used to achieve the required temperatures within the room.6 Fire Tests for Sprinklers Used with a Fire Rated Glazing Material without a Limitatio

17、n forKeeping Combustibles at Least 2 inches (50.8 mm) Away from the Glazing Surface6.1 General6.1.1 In addition to complying with ULC/ORD-C263.1-99 when tested in accordance with 5.1 using a heatstrengthened, tempered glazing material, sprinklers intended for use with a fire rated glazing materialwi

18、thout a limitation for keeping combustibles at least 2 inches (50.8 mm) away from the glazing surfaceshall comply with 6.1.2 when tested as described in 6.2.1 6.3.3.6.1.2 When fire tested as described in 6.2.1 6.3.3 the glazing material shall not show any visualevidence of cracking or breakage when

19、water is discharged onto the glazing surface that has beensubjected to a localized heat source.6.1.3 The fire rated glazing referenced in 6.1.1 shall have the following characteristics:a) A fire rated window that demonstrated compliance with ANSI/UL 9, Standard for Fire Testsof Window Assemblies wit

20、h a minimum 20 minute fire resistance rating and a hose streamrating.b) The area and height limitations associated with the rating of the glazing referenced in6.1.3(a) shall not be exceeded.c) The glazing does not utilize a film on the exterior surfaces.JULY 17, 2017 UL 199J 5UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL

21、 NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL6.2 Test Arrangement6.2.1 Glazing test structure6.2.1.1 The glazing material is to be installed in a frame using the materials and components necessaryfor a complete installation.6.2.1.2 The width of the glazing is not

22、 to be less than 6 ft. (1.8 m) and the height is to be the maximumreferenced in the manufacturers instructions for use with the glazing material tested. Butt joining sectionsof glazing is permitted to be used to achieve the minimum glazing width.6.2.1.3 The frame with the glazing installed in a vert

23、ical orientation is to be supported in a manner toprovide stability when exposed during the fire testing.6.2.1.4 The glazing assembly is to be installed in a draft free room so that the flame from the fire sourcewill extend vertically above the pan containing heptane and against the surface of the g

24、lazing material.Barriers along the sides of the glazing assembly are permitted to be used, if they are needed to providethe required flame impingement on the glazing surface.6.2.1.5 Thermocouples are to be located on the exposed and non-exposed side of the glazing material atan elevation of 1 ft (0.

25、3 m), 3 ft (0.9 m) and 5 ft. (1.5 m) directly above the top of the pan of heptane. SeeFigure 6.1. 27、STRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL6.2.2 Fire source6.2.2.1 A nominal 10 by 10 inch (254 by 254 mm) square steel pan having a height of not less than 1.25inches (32 mm) containing not less than 50 ounces (1.5 L) of heptane is to be used as the fire source.The freeboard distance above the liquid to

28、 the top of the pan shall not exceed 0.75 inch (19 mm).6.2.2.2 The pan is to be slightly elevated above the floor and inset within the window frame so that thepan contacts the glazing material.6.2.3 Sprinkler installation6.2.3.1 If the width of the glazing does not exceed the sprinkler coverage widt

29、h, one sprinkler is to beinstalled at the center of the glazing. If the width of the glazing is greater than the sprinkler coverage width,two sprinklers shall be installed at their minimum allowable distance between the sprinklers. The sprinklersare to be installed at distances below the top of the

30、glazing and away from the surface of the glazing thatare within the criteria specified by the sprinkler manufacturer.6.2.3.2 One test is to be conducted using the minimum pressure specified by the manufacturer and asecond test is to be conducted at the nominal 100 psig inlet pressure.6.2.3.3 For eac

31、h test, open sprinklers are to be used and the desired discharge pressure is to beestablished using a manually or electronically controlled, quick opening type valve. Each sprinkler is to besupplied with piping having a nominal diameter of not less than 1 inch (25 mm).6.2.3.4 The flow and pressure t

32、o the sprinkler is to be continuously recorded using calibrated measuringinstruments.6.3 Test method6.3.1 To initiate each test, the pan of heptane is to be ignited and allowed to burn freely for 5 minutes orwhen the glazing temperature located 1 ft. (0.3 m) above the pan of heptane reaches 932 F (5

33、00 C),whichever occurs last.6.3.2 At the end of the free-burn period, water is to be discharged from the sprinkler at the required inletpressure for not less than 30 seconds.6.3.3 After the sprinkler discharge, the glazing is to be visually examined for evidence of any cracking orbreakage.JULY 17, 2017UL 199J8
