The information obtained from initialmaterials testing is intended to ensure the consistency of each plenum-cable material. There are nopredetermined requirements for these tests.2 Units of Measure

8、tion of the code or standard.TEST PROGRAM4 General4.1 The following are the tests employed in this program and the materials for which they are appropriate.The material to be tested shall be provided as pellets and 4 inx4in(100 mm x 100 mm) plaques.Materials of construction not anticipated by this o
9、utline of investigation may require different tests forcharacterization.4.2 QUALITATIVE INFRARED ANALYSIS (ALL MATERIALS) The infrared (IR) spectrum for eachmaterial is obtained by means of a Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer using a reflectanceaccessory technique or, if necessary, any
10、of the infrared techniques described in the InfraredSpectroscopy sections of the Reference Standard for Electrical Wires, Cables, and Flexible Cords, UL1581, and the Standard for Polymeric Materials Short Term Property Evaluations, UL 746A.4.3 THERMOGRAVIMETRY (TGA) (ALL MATERIALS) A thermal curve o
11、f each material is obtained bymeans of a thermal analyzer with a thermogravimetric module. The test method is described in theStandard Test Method for Rapid Thermal Degradation of Solid Electrical Insulating Materials byThermogravimetric Method, ASTM D 3850, except that the specimen is to be heated
12、at 20C (36F) perminute in a nitrogen atmosphere. The upper temperature limit is material dependent, with 650C as theminimum. The purge gas is not changed to air for the percent ash determination. This analysis is furtherdescribed in the Thermogravimetry sections of the Reference Standard for Electri

Quantitation is then carried out by either vacuum UV Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP)spectrometer instrumentation, ion chromatograp
18、hy (IC) or silver nitrate titration.4.6 DIFFERENTIAL SCANNING CALORIMETRY (DSC) (ALL MATERIALS OTHER THAN PVC) Athermal curve of each material is to be obtained by means a Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC). Thetest method is described in the Standard Test Method for Transition Temperatures of
19、Polymers byDifferential Scanning Calorimetry, ASTM D 3418, except that the specimen is to be heated at 20C (36F)per minute in a nitrogen atmosphere without a preliminary thermal cycle. The upper temperature limit istypically 300C, but may be adjusted depending on the material degradation and melt te
20、mperatures. Thisanalysis is further described in the Differential Scanning Calorimetry sections of the Reference Standardfor Electrical Wires, Cables, and Flexible Cords, UL 1581, and the Standard for Polymeric Materials Short Term Property Evaluations, UL 746A.4.7 MELT FLOW (NOT CONDUCTED ON PVC AN
