8、 the Standard for Water SprayFixed Systems for Fire Protection, NFPA 15. Water spray fixed systems are intended to be inspected,tested and maintained in accordance with the Standard for the Inspection, Testing and Maintenance ofWater-Based Fire Protection Systems, NFPA 25.2 Units of Measurement2.1 V

14、 pressure in pounds per square inch gauge.In SI units:Q is the flow in liters per minute; andp is the pressure in bar5.3 FILTER An element of a nozzle adaptor assembly that provides a level of protection against nozzleclogging.5.4 NOZZLE ADAPTOR WITH INTEGRAL FILTER (NOZZLE ADAPTOR or ADAPTOR) A dev

16、FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULCONSTRUCTION6 General6.1 A nozzle adaptor shall have a minimum 1/2-inch (12.7-mm) nominal inlet connection and minimum1/4-inch (6.3 mm) nominal outlet connection.6.2 Threaded connections shall be in accordance with the Standard for Pi

17、pe Threads, General Purpose(Inch), ANSI/ASME B1.20.1, or other national pipe thread standards.6.3 The openings in the filter of a nozzle adaptor shall be constructed to restrict the passage of a spherewith a diameter that is not more than 80 percent of the smallest water passageway of the nozzles in

18、tendedfor use with the adaptor.6.4 The open area of the filter of a nozzle adaptor shall be not less than 4 times the area of the waterpassageway of the nozzles intended for use with the adapter.7 Rated Pressure7.1 A nozzle adaptor shall have a rated pressure of 175 psig (1.21 MPa) or greater.8 Mate

19、rials8.1 The nozzle adaptor including the filter shall be constructed of materials with corrosion resistance atleast equivalent to brass, bronze, or Series 300 stainless steel.8.2 Nozzle adaptor components including the filter that are made of a copper alloy containing more than15 percent zinc shall

22、OM ULPERFORMANCE9 General9.1 Representative samples of the nozzle adaptors with integral filter are to be subjected to the testsdescribed in these requirements.10 Hydrostatic Strength Test10.1 A nozzle adaptor shall withstand, without leakage or rupture, a hydrostatic pressure applied to thepressure

23、 retaining components equal to four times the rated pressure for a period of 5 minutes.10.2 A representative sample is to be filled with water in a manner that all entrapped air is vented. Theinlet of the device is to be hydrostatically pressurized at a rate not exceeding 300 psig (2.07 MPa) perminu

24、te until the required test pressure in 10.1 is achieved. The test sample is to be visually examined forleakage and rupture during the test.11 Clogging Test11.1 A nozzle adaptor with integral filter shall show no evidence of clogging that would increase the inletpressure required to flow water throug

25、h adaptor by more than 10 percent when exposed to continuouslyflowing water, contaminated in accordance with 11.4, at a test pressure not less than 60 psig (414 KPa).11.2 A sample of the nozzle adaptor with filter having the smallest open area shall be subjected to thistest. During testing, the filt

26、er shall not be flushed, removed, or cleaned. Refer to the Standard for WaterMist Nozzles for Fire Protection Service, ANSI/UL 2167 for a diagram of a typical test apparatus.11.3 Prior to conducting the clogging test, the flow rate of water through the nozzle adaptor with integralfilter is to be mea

27、sured with a nozzle inlet pressure as described in 11.1. Following the 30 minutes of flowwith contaminated water, the pressure required to achieve the same flow rate initially measured throughthe nozzle adaptor shall not increase by more than 10 percent of the original pressure value.11.4 The water

28、and contaminant solution used for the clogging test is to be mixed in a proportion of 60L (15.9 gal) of tap water with the weight of contaminants as described in Table 11.1. 32、the inlet connection, shall not be more than the equivalent length values publishedin the installation instructions.12.2 A sample of each nozzle adaptor with integral filter shall be tested with each size and type of supplypipe and fittings intended for use with the adaptor as referenced in the manu

33、facturers installationinstructions. A piezometer is to be installed on each side of a supply pipe tee and connected to adifferential pressure measuring device. With the nozzle adaptor plugged, water flow through thepiezometers is to be measured using a flow-measuring device.12.3 At least five differ

34、ent water flows at velocities between 10 and 18 ft/sec (3.1 and 5.5 m/s) basedupon the nominal inside diameter of the supply piping are to be established through the test sample andthe pressure drop between piezometers at each flow is to be recorded. The calculated pressure loss fromthe piezometers,

35、 corrected for the inlet and outlet velocities as applicable, are to be subtracted from thetest sample results to obtain a pressure drop associated with the nozzle adaptor filter protruding into thesupply piping. Using the Hazen-Williams coefficient of friction of 120, the equivalent length, in feet

37、ed for use with the adaptor by more than 10 percent.13.2 Water spray nozzles having K-factors that are representative of those intended for use with theadaptor are to be installed on an outlet from a water reservoir sized so that the velocity head effect (V2/2g) is reduced to approach a velocity of

38、zero. The outlet is to consist of a pipe coupling of a sizecorresponding with the size of the test sample thread, as described in the Standard for Pipe Threads,General Purpose (Inch), ANSI/ASME B1.20.1. The test apparatus shall consist of a nominal six-inch blankflange drilled and threaded to the ap

39、propriate thread size, and attached to a six-inch pipe. See Figure 13.1for an example of this apparatus. In addition, an adaptor intended for installation in an elbow is to betested with the elbow inlet connected to water supply piping having the same nominal size as the elbowinlet.13.3 The nozzles

40、are to be initially tested to determine their K-factor. The combination of the adaptor andnozzles are then to be tested with fittings that are representative of those intended for use with the adaptorincluding both tees and elbows, if intended for use with both.13.4 The test sample is to be flow tes

41、ted first at a pressure of 7 psig (48 kPa) and then at 10 psig (69kPa). Following this, the pressure is to be increased in 5 psig (34 kPa) increments up to 50 psig (345 kPa),in 10 psig (69 kPa) increments up to and including 75 psig (517 kPa) less than the rated pressure,decreased in 10 psig (69 kPa

42、) increments down to 50 psig (345 kPa), in 5 psig (34 kPa) increments downto 10 psig (60 kPa), and then decreased to 7 psig (48 kPa). The flow at each increment of pressure is tobe measured by a flow-measuring device having an accuracy of within 2 percent of the actual flow. Thedischarge coefficient

43、 K is to be calculated by dividing the flow in gallons per minute (L/min x 3.78) bythe square root of the pressure in psig (bar x 14.5). 45、tor with integral filter shall withstand for 30 minutes, without evidence of cracking,deformation, or separation of any part, a water flow at a pressure equal to the rated pressure plus 25 psig(172 kPa).14.2 A representative nozzle adaptor or adaptors with a nozzle having the largest K-factor intend

46、ed foruse with the adaptor are to be installed in a tee in their intended installation orientation and connected toa pressurized water system having a supply pipe with a minimum nominal diameter of 1 inches. Thewater flow through the nozzle is to be increased to obtain the test pressure specified in

47、 14.1 and thenmaintained for 30 minutes.15 30-Day Corrosion Tests15.1 General15.1.1 The discharge coefficient of a combination of the largest nozzle and nozzle adaptor with thesmallest filter size shall not decrease more than 5 percent of the original value after exposure to salt spray,hydrogen sulf

48、ide, and carbon dioxide-sulfur dioxide atmospheres referenced in 15.1.2 - 15.4.1 for 30 days.Prior to and following each exposure, the combination of the largest nozzle and nozzle adaptor with thesmallest filter shall be subjected to the Discharge Coefficient Determination, Section 13 to compare the

49、measured K-factors.15.1.2 More than 24 hours after the exposure period, each sample is to be connected to the nozzle andsubjected to the Discharge Coefficient Determination, Section 13 to determine the K-factor after theexposure.15.1.3 Three sample nozzle adaptors with the smallest filter are to the subjected to this test. One sampleis to be exposed to 20 percent salt spray, the second to hydrogen sulfide, and the third to sulfurdioxide-carbon dioxide.15.1.4 CAUTION - Hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide are both toxic gases.
