6、FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULINTRODUCTION1 Scope1.1 This Outline covers the requirements for irrigation feeder, control, and signal cables rated 300 or 600V, 60 or 75C. The insulated-conductor sizes are 18 AWG 250 kcmil, solid or stranded copper. Thecables are in

7、tended for direct burial and are used to:a) Supply power to irrigation machines (feeder cable),b) Send power and/or signals to irrigation machines (control cable), and/orc) Supply guidance to irrigation machines (signal cable).These cables are not intended for indoor use or for any existing uses cov

8、ered by the National ElectricalCode (NEC), ANSI/NFPA 70.2 Units of Measurement2.1 In addition to being stated in the inch/pound units that are customary in the USA, each of therequirements in this outline is also stated in units that make the requirement conveniently usable incountries employing the

9、 metric system (practical SI). Equivalent although not necessarily exactlyidentical results are to be expected from applying a requirement in USA or metric terms. Equipmentcalibrated in metric units is to be used when a requirement is applied in metric terms.3 Components3.1 Except as indicated in 3.

10、2, a component (including gaskets and polymeric materials) of a productcovered by this outline of investigation shall comply with the requirements for that component.3.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the

11、 application of the component in theproduct covered by this outline of investigation, orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this outline of investigation.3.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse.3.4 Specific components are incomplete

14、RUCTION5 Materials and Workmanship5.1 Only materials that are acceptable for the particular use shall be employed in a wire. Wires shall bemade and finished with the degree of uniformity and grade of workmanship that are practicable in awell-equipped factory.5.2 Each material used in a wire shall be

15、 compatible with all of the other materials used in the wire.6 Conductors6.1 Conductors shall be 18 AWG 250 kcmil, annealed solid or stranded copper, bare or coated.6.2 Insulated conductors shall be single conductor Types THW-2, THWN-2, UF, USE, XHHW-2, RHW-2,THHW, THW, THWN, RHW, XHHW; or Types TFN

16、 TFFN, RFH-2, or FFH-2 using an insulatingcompound rated for at least 60C (140F) wet and dry and comply with the Standard forThermoset-Insulated Wires and Cables, UL 44, the Standard for Fixture Wire, UL 66, the Standard forThermoplastic-Insulated Wires and Cables, UL 83, the Standard for Thermopla

17、stic-Insulated UndergroundFeeder and Branch-Circuit Cables, UL 493, or the Standard for Service-Entrance Cables, UL 854, asappropriate.6.3 Insulated conductors other than those described in 6.1 and 6.2 shall have materials in thicknessesand with temperature ratings appropriate for the specific const

18、ruction of the irrigation cable in which theyare to be used. The materials shall be evaluated for the requested temperature rating as described inLong-Term Aging in the Reference Standard for Electrical Wires, Cables, and Flexible Cords, UL 1581.Investigation of the electrical, mechanical, and physi

19、cal characteristics of these insulated conductors shallshow these conductors to be comparable to the conductors described in 6.1 and 6.2. The investigationshall include tests such as crushing, impact, abrasion, deformation, heat shock, insulation resistance, anddielectric voltage-withstand.DECEMBER

Conductors of different sizes may be usedin the same cable. The insulated conductors shall

21、be cabled. The length of lay is not specified. The cablesshall be provided with fillers where needed to make the finished cable round.7.2 The assembly may be enclosed in a nonmetallic braid, tape, or wrap.7.3 The assembly may be enclosed in a metallic braid, tape, or wrap. A drain wire is not requir

27、elongation of the insulation and jacket, unaged, and after applicableagings. Aging time, temperature, and requirements are to depend upon the materials andtemperature rating, but at least a 60C rating is required.b) The Cold Bend Test on samples of the single conductor and of the complete cable that

28、 havebeen in a cold chamber for 4 hours at a temperature of -25.0 2.0C (-13.0 3.6F) inaccordance with the Cold Bend Test in the Reference Standard for Electrical Wires, Cables,and Flexible Cords, UL 1581. The complete cable is to be wrapped for 180 degrees around amandrel whose diameter is five time

29、s the diameter of the finished cable. The single conductor isto be wrapped for six turns around a mandrel whose diameter is the same as the diameter ofthe finished single conductor. The cable is not acceptable if there are any cracks, splits, tears,or other openings in any part of the cable.c) The D

30、ielectric Voltage-Withstand Test between the shield (if present) and adjacent insulatedconductors, and between uninsulated conductors and adjacent insulated conductors inaccordance with the Dielectric Voltage-Withstand Test for Cord Conductors in the ReferenceStandard for Electrical Wires, Cables, a

31、nd Flexible Cords, UL 1581. There shall be nobreakdown during a 60-second application of an a-c potential of 2000 volts for cable in whichno insulated conductor is larger than 2 AWG, and 2500 volts for cable in which any insulatedconductor is larger than 2 AWG.11 Environmental Exposure Tests11.1 Exp

32、osures11.1.1 General11.1.1.1 Lengths of complete cable shall be exposed to the environmental conditions given below.Different samples are to be subjected to each exposure. 33、RTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL11.1.2 Fertilizer Cycling Exposure11.1.2.1 Lengths of complete cable are to be conditioned according to the following sequence.a) Ultraviolet light and water exposure for 360 hours.b) Immersion cycling for 40 cycles at 23.0 8.0C (73.4 14.4F

34、) with a 3-hour immersion,5-hour air drying cycle. The immersion solution is to consist of:1) 39.5 percent ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3),2) 30.5 percent urea (NH2CONH2), and3) 30 percent H2O.The above solution is to be added to water on the basis of 0.02 pound per gallon or 2.4 gramsper liter.c) At this

35、 point, the tensile strength and elongation of one set of samples are to be measured.d) Steps (a) and (b) are to be performed on the second set of samples.11.1.3 Herbicide Cycling Exposure11.1.3.1 Lengths of complete cable are to be conditioned according to the following sequence.a) Ultraviolet ligh

36、t and water spray for 360 hours.b) Immersion cycling for 15 cycles at 23.0 8.0C (73.4 14.4F) with a 3-hour immersion,5-hour air drying cycle. The immersion solutions are to consist of:1) Herbicide employing atrazine in a water solution on the basis of 0.002 pound pergallon or 0.24 gram per liter.2)

37、Herbicide employing a solvent of monochlorobenzene in water solution on the basisof 0.002 pound per gallon or 0.24 grams per liter.c) At this point, the tensile strength and elongation of one set of samples are to be measured.d) Steps (a) and (b) are to be performed on the second set of samples.DECE

38、MBER 5, 2007SUBJECT 25718UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL11.2 Tests on exposed samples11.2.1 After exposure in accordance with 11.1, the cable shall comply with the following:a) Visual - The cable shall not show any signs of cr

39、acking, swelling, tackiness, corrosion, orother identifications of deleterious effects of the chemicals on the cable.b) Physical - The tensile strength and elongation of the jacket are to be measured after each(a) and (b) cycle.Samples exposed to two cycles of steps (a) and (b) of each exposure are

40、also to have tensile-strength and elongation measurements made. The values obtained are required to be 80percent or greater of original values.MARKINGS12 General12.1 The cable shall have the information described below shown on the surface of the outer jacket atintervals not exceeding 24 in by means

41、 of indelible ink printing or indent or raised printing. The ink printingshall be investigated for durability as specified in Durability of Indelible-Ink Printing, in the ReferenceStandard for Electrical Wires, Cables, and Flexible Cords, UL 1581. The sequence is not specified. Amarker tape is appro

42、priate in addition to the surface printing. Other information, where added, shall notconfuse or mislead and shall not conflict with these requirements. See 14.1 for date marking.a) Manufacturers and factory identification. The name of the manufacturer, the manufacturerstrade name for the product, or

43、 both, or any other appropriate distinctive marking by means ofwhich the organization responsible for the product is readily identifiable. Where the organizationthat is responsible for the product is different from the actual manufacturer, both the responsibleorganization and the actual manufacturer

44、 shall be identified by name or by appropriate codingsuch as by trade name, trademark, the assigned electrical reference number, or the assignedcombination of colored marker threads. The meaning of any coded identification shall be madeavailable by the organization responsible for the cable.b) Numbe

45、r and size of conductors (not required where each conductor is marked).c) 300 V or 300 volts,or600 V or 600 volts as appropriate.d) Based on the temperature rating of the conductors used, the temperature rating of the cable,60 C or 75 C.e) The words Irrigation Machine Feeder Cable”, Irrigation Contr

46、ol Cable”, and/or IrrigationMachine Signal Cable” as appropriate.f) The designation direct burial”, dir bur”, for dir bur”, or for direct burial” for cable thatcomplies with the Crushing Test - Cable Marked for Direct Burial in the Standard for ElectricalPower and Control Tray Cables with Optional O

48、ecified) shall be tied to every shipping length of cable. However, where the cable is coiled on a reel oris in a carton, it is appropriate for the tag to be glued, tied, stapled, or otherwise attached to the reel orcarton instead of to the cable, or for the tag to be eliminated and the information p

49、rinted or stencileddirectly onto the reel or carton. Other information, where added, shall not confuse or mislead and shallnot conflict with these requirements. See 14.1 for date marking.a) The name of the manufacturer, the manufacturers trade name for the cable, or both, or anyother appropriate distinctive marking by means of which the organization responsible for thecable is readily identifiable, and an identification of the factory where the organizationresponsible for the product
