6、ine covers single-conductor, insulated heavy duty flexible power cable rated 90C, dry and,75C or 90C wet, 600, or 2000 V for use as flexible power and control cables in temporary or permanentinstallations.2 Undated References2.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requiremen
7、ts of this Outline ofInvestigation shall be interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard.CONSTRUCTION3 Materials3.1 In addition to being stated in the inch/pound units that are customary in the USA, each of therequirements in this outline are also stated in units that make
8、 the requirement conveniently useable incountries employing the various metric systems (practical SI and customary). Equivalent although, notnecessarily exactly identical results are to be expected from applying a requirement in USA or metricterms. Equipment calibrated in metric units is to be used
9、when a requirement is applied in metric terms.3.2 Only materials that are acceptable for the particular use shall be employed in a wire. Wires shall bemade and finished with the degree of uniformity and grade of workmanship that are practicable in awell-equipped factory.3.3 Each material used in a w
10、ire shall be compatible with all of the other materials used in the wire.4 Assembly4.1 The wire shall consist of a single, insulated, stranded copper conductor with or without a jacket,complying with the construction and materials requirements for Type RHH, RHW, or RHW-2 in theStandard for Thermoset

12、l conductor strandsshall consist of materials complying with the:a) Standard Specification for Soft or Annealed Copper Wire, ASTM B3; orb) Standard Specification for Tin-Coated Soft or Annealed Copper Wire for Electrical Purposes,ASTM B33.5.2 Size and construction5.2.1 A conductor shall not be small
13、er than 14 AWG and shall not be larger than 1111.1 kcmil.Conductors shall comply with the:a) Standard Specification for Concentric-Lay-Stranded Copper Conductors, Hard, Medium-Hard, or Soft, ASTM B8;b) Standard Specification for Rope-Lay-Stranded Copper Conductors Having Bunch-StrandedMembers, for E

24、ure ratingof new materials (long-term aging test), in the Standard for Wire and Cable Test Methods, UL 2556.Investigation of the electrical, mechanical, and physical characteristics of the wire using the material shallshow the material to be comparable in performance to the Type RHH, RHW or RHW-2 in
25、sulation or jacket.The investigation shall include tests such as crushing, impact, abrasion, deformation, heat shock,insulation resistance, and dielectric voltage withstand.6.1.4 The average and minimum thickness of 600 volt insulation shall be in accordance with Table 6.2.The average and minimum th

37、d Cables, UL 44. Forwires rated 90C wet, all tests shall be required for Type RHW-2 single-conductor construction inaccordance with the Standard for Thermoset-Insulated Wires and Cables, UL 44. All of the flame tests andthe weather, oil and gasoline resistance ratings specified in UL 44 are applicab
38、le for this cable. Forconductor sizes not found in UL 44, the next largest AWG size found in the standard shall be used todetermine test requirements.8 Manufacturing and Production Tests8.1 The Spark Test in the Standard for Wire and Cable Test Methods, UL 2556 shall be conducted . Thetest voltage s
39、hall be according to the values required for 600 or 2000 volt rated Type RHH, RHW, orRHW-2.MARKINGS9 Details9.1 All of the wire and tag, reel, or carton markings required for Type RHH, RHW, or RHW-2 per theStandard for Thermoset-Insulated Wires and Cables, UL 44, shall be required for this cable wit
