5、ODUCTION1 Scope1.1 These requirements cover after-market refills (see 3.1) intended for consumer installation into electricdeodorizer or air freshener appliances.1.2 These requirements do not cover after-market refills requiring pouring by the user.2 General2.1 In addition to complying with Sections

6、38ofthese requirements, the after-market refill, alone andin combination with the appliance shall comply with the applicable requirements of the Standard for AirFresheners and Deodorizers, UL 283.3 Glossary3.1 AFTER-MARKET REFILL A consumable scent replacement for consumer installation into one ormo

7、re specific deodorizer or air freshener appliances. After-market refills are not integrally packaged orbundled with the appliance. They shall be one of the following types:a) Non-refillable gel pack, or;b) Non-refillable liquid consumables in either thermoplastic or glass containers.CONSTRUCTION4 Ge

8、neral4.1 The after-market refill shall be formed and assembled so that it may be installed, in accordance withthe user installation instructions, into its specified air freshener or deodorizer, without risk of fire or electricshock. Risk of fire or electric shock is determined by compliance with the

9、 construction and performancerequirements herein and the applicable requirements of the Standard for Air Fresheners and Deodorizers,UL 283.4.2 If the after-market refill is recommended for use with more than one deodorizer or air fresheningappliance, each representative combination of after-market r

10、efill and appliance is to be investigated.4.3 The flash point of an after-market refill liquid shall be conducted in accordance with UL 283, Clause56.1. The resulting flash point shall be not less than 30C (54F) higher than the operating temperature(wick or pad temperature) of the device.4.4 The fla

11、sh point of the liquid need not comply with the 30C temperature differential of Clause 4.3, ifall the following conditions are met:a) The fragrance complies with the flame ignition test in UL 283 Clause 56.2 and;b) The fragrance volume for normal use is less than 300 ml for the total volume; for app

12、lianceswhich utilize more than one fragrance container during normal use, the volume limitation isdetermined as a total of each container of fragrance used with the appliance, and;c) The operating temperature of the heater as determined by the Normal Temperature Test ofUL 283 Section 43 is less than

14、e all following conditions are met:a) The fragrance complies with the flame ignition test in UL 283, Clause 56.2 and;b) The fragrance is subjected to the Ignition Temperature Test, in the Standard for Tests forComparative Flammability of Liquids, UL 340, and the resulting Ignition Temperature is 50C

15、greater than the highest temperature of the following:i) The operating temperature of the wick or pad as determined by the NormalTemperature Test of UL 283 Section 43; or;ii) The fragrance Flash point as determined by the test of UL 283, Clause 56.1.PERFORMANCE5 General5.1 If the after-market refill

16、 is recommended for use with more than one deodorizer or air fresheningappliance, each representative combination of after-market refill and appliance is to be investigated.6 After-market Refill Retention Test6.1 The after-market refill shall be able to be installed onto the specified appliance and

17、shall be reliablyretained in place without causing an increased risk of fire or electric shock. To confirm the efficacy of theretention means, the test of 6.2 shall be conducted and the distance between P1and P2shall not exceed1 mm.6.2 A sample of the after-market refill is inserted into the specifi

18、c appliance in accordance with the userinstructions. The appliance with the after-market refill installed is to be energized for 15 minutes asspecified in the Input Test (Section 42) of the Standard for Air Fresheners and Deodorizers, UL 283. Thetest set up is to be provided with a means to record t

19、he position of the refill in the appliance. At the endof 15 minutes, the location of the after-market refill is to be marked as to indicate the position of the refillin the appliance, position P1. The appliance is then re-energized and allowed to operate for a period of 7hours. At the conclusion of

20、the 7 hour time period, the position of the after-market refill in the applianceis again recorded on the same recording paper as P1, position P2. The after-market refill is then removedfrom the appliance and the distance between P1and P2is measured with a suitably calibratedmeasurement device and re

22、molded, die-stamped, paint-stenciled, stamped or etched metal that ispermanently secured, or indelibly stamped lettering on a pressure-sensitive label secured by adhesivethat, upon investigation, meets the intent of the requirement for the application. Ordinary usage, handling,storage, and similar a

23、ctions of an appliance are to be used in the determination of the permanence of amarking. See the Permanence of Marking Test, Section 53 of the Standard for Air Fresheners andDeodorizers, UL 283.7.3 After-market refills shall be provided with the following identification markings:a) Manufacturers na

24、me, and;b) Specific catalog or series number, and;c) The date or other dating period of manufacture not exceeding any three consecutive months.Exception: Abbreviation of the date of manufacture, or provision in a nationally accepted conventionalcode or in a code affirmed by the manufacturer, meets t

25、he intent of the requirement. The code shall notrequire reference to the production records of the manufacturer to determine when the after market refillwas manufactured.7.4 After-market refills shall be provided with the following marking or equivalent on the refill body or capand repeated on the p

26、ackaging (carton, etc.). Refer to 7.5 and 7.6 for additional details.WARNING - Use only refill (Catalog Number) with (+) Deodorizer/Air Freshener Only”, where (+) is to besubstituted with the specific manufacturer name and model / catalog number of the intendedappliance(s).7.5 After-market refills p

27、rovided in packaging of no more than two refills may be provided with thefollowing marking in lieu of the marking required by 7.4. The carton, packaging or equivalent shall bemarked in accordance with 7.4.Refer to instructions on +where + is either carton, packaging or equivalent.7.6 The marking of

29、nstallation, operation,user-maintenance, moving and storage, as applicable.8.2 An illustration may be used to clarify the intent of a required instruction but shall not replace thewritten instruction.8.3 Instructions shall include the following statements or their equivalent:IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUC

30、TIONSWARNING - Use only refill (Catalog Number) with (+) Deodorizer/Air Freshener Only”, where (+) is to besubstituted with the specific manufacturer name and model / catalog number of the intendedappliance(s).WARNING Risk of Fire or Electric Shock.
