、UTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL4.4 The 1A wood crib is to be constructed as described in the Standard for the Rating and Fire Testingof Fire Extinguishers, UL 711. Specifications for excelsior, heptane and the 2.5 ft2test pan are alsocontained in UL 711.
、The term center means the center of the floor of the enclosure. The term offsetmeans the midpoint between the center of the room and one corner.4.5 During each fire test, cylindrical containers having dimensions of 3 in. ID and 4 in. high containing 2in. of heptane are to be located 2 in. from the c
、orners of test enclosures and located vertically 12 in. belowthe ceiling of the enclosure. The heptane in the these cylinders is to be ignited after which the other testfuels (Par. 4.3) are to be ignited.5 Response Test Of Heat Actuating Device5.1 A portable type extinguishing system unit shall exti
、nguish the heptane fire specified in Par. 5.2 within2 min after the test fuel is ignition.5.2 The heptane is to be contained in 2-1/2 ft2(0.23 m2) square pan located within 2 in. (50.8 mm) of acorner of the test enclosure described in Sec. 4.5.3 The test enclosure is to have two wall openings having
、 an area of 1 ft2each to provide combustionair.6 Operating Temperature Test6.1 When subjected to the path test described in Pars. 6.2 through 6.7, heat responsive element shalloperate within a range of3-1/2 percent of the elements marked temperature rating.6.2 Ten heat responsive elements are to be
、subjected to this test and each sample shall comply with therequirements of Par. 6.1.6.3 The heat responsive elements are to be placed in an upright position under a load equal to the unitsdesign operating load and completely immersed in a liquid bath. The water vessel is to be provided witha source
、 for heating the liquid at the prescribed rate with the means to agitate the liquid and measure thetemperature of the liquid bath.6.4 Water is to be used for heat responsive elements having temperature ratings of 175F are to be bathtested in an oil having a flash point exceeding the elements rated t
、emperature.6.5 An agitator is to be used for obtaining uniformity and temperature of the bath liquid.6.6 A laboratory mercury thermometer, calibrated in accordance with the specifications for ASTMthermometers, ASTM E186, is to be used to determine temperatures of the liquids used in bath tests. Theb
、ulb of a thermometer is to be located level with the heat responsive element.6.7 The temperature of the bath liquid is to be raised until the liquid is within 20F (11C) of thetemperature of the heat responsive element for temperature rating of 300F or less and within 30F (17C)for an element having a
、 temperature rating of 325F (163C) and higher. The rate of temperature rise isto be controlled at a rate not exceeding 1F (0.5C) per minute until operation or until a temperature 20F(11C) above the rated temperature is reached. The temperature of the liquid and the time of operation,as each heat responsive element operates, are to be recorded.NOVEMBER 21, 2006 SUBJECT 299A 5UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULNOVEMBER 21, 2006SUBJECT 299A6No Text on This Page
