9、RIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULINTRODUCTION1 Scope1.1 These requirements cover water sensing devices, signaling devices and water shutoff valves intendedto automatically respond to flooding and water leakage situations caused from the water supply side inresi

10、dential applications.1.2 The intent of these requirements is to reduce property damage due to water leakage and overflowfrom appliances that are supplied with water and for the backup and overflow of drainage associated withthe water supply line.1.3 These requirements do not cover the following:a) F

11、looding due to storm water overflow and sump discharge backups.b) Water detection and emergency shutoff in commercial applications such as the protection ofcomputer equipment rooms.2 General2.1 Components2.1.1 Except as indicated in 2.1.2, a component of a product covered by this standard shall comp

12、ly withthe requirements for that component. See Appendix A for a list of standards covering components usedin the products covered by this standard.2.1.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of

13、the component in theproduct covered by this standard, orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this standard.2.1.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse.2.1.4 Specific components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in pe

14、rformancecapabilities. 16、.2.3 Undated references2.3.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this standard shallbe interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard.3 Glossary3.1 For the purpose of this Standard, the following definitions apply.3.2 CONTROL UNIT Tha

17、t portion of the system that is designed to accept the input from the sensor,process the signals, annunciate trouble signals, process notifications and communicate actions for theshutoff valve.3.3 WATER LEAK DETECTION SYSTEM A system of products that is comprised of a sensor to detectwater leaks, a

18、shutoff valve that is automatically activated to close upon detection of water, and acommunication and control system that is a discrete product or virtual.3.4 WATER LEAK SENSOR A mechanism that is designed to detect water. The sensor is either a unitthat combines a power source and electrodes or ha

19、ve a separate power source and electrodes.4 System Components4.1 The minimum system components shall be comprised of a water detection device(s), control andindicating equipment and a water shutoff valve. The control and indicating equipment is permitted to beintegral between the water detector and

20、shutoff valve.5 Installation and Operating Instructions5.1 A copy of the installation and operating instructions and related schematic wiring diagrams andinstallation drawings shall be used as a guide in the examination and test of the product. For this purpose,a printed edition is not required.5.2

21、Each water detection system shall be provided with the installation and operating instructions andshall include the following information:a) Wiring diagram of the system.b) List of compatible devices and the maximum number of devices the system can handle.c) Typical installation drawings and descrip

22、tions.d) Recommendation for a licensed professional plumber to install the shutoff valve.e) Contact local authorities for installation requirements.JULY 21, 2017UL 32256UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULf) Description of each of

23、the actions, ie alarm, trouble and what happens.g) Description of all notifications.h) Information on replacement batteries.i) Maximum water pressure rating.j) RF installation guidelines, minimum distance.k) Description of the operation, testing and maintenance procedures.l) Note to cycle the system

24、 at a minimum of once per month. The testing instructions shallinclude a description on how to wet each sensor in the system and to check that the valvecompletely closes.5.3 The installation of the water shutoff valve shall not impair the operation of a home automatic fireprotection sprinkler system

25、. The instructions shall direct that the valve be installed in such a manner thatit is downstream of the water meter and on the main domestic water line separate from the automaticsprinkler system.5.4 The installation and operating instructions shall be in printed or electronic form.6 Compatibility6

26、.1 The interconnection of the product with other products shall be evaluated for the purpose of operatingas a coordinated system relative to the intended emergency signaling and without risk of fire, shock, orinjury to persons.6.2 The requirements of 6.1 apply to:a) Separate products connected to an

27、y circuit and by which the operating parts of the productare actuated for signaling and/or action andb) Separate or incorporated appliances or units by which signals are indicated or actionscarried out.6.3 Power circuits interconnecting products shall have compatible voltage and current ratings.6.4

29、 materials that have been determined to comply with the requirements for theparticular use, as indicated by the performance requirements of this standard.7.2 Water detectors and system components for the control and indicating equipment shall meet therequirements of the Standard for Information Tech

30、nology Equipment - Safety - Part 1: GeneralRequirements, UL 60950-1 or the Standard for Audio, Video, and Similar Electronic Apparatus-SafetyRequirements, UL 60065 or UL 62368-1 , Standard for Audio/Video, Information and CommunicationTechnology Equipment.Exception No. 1: Products that meet all the

31、requirements of UL 1023, UL 2017, UL 985 or UL 864 shallbe considered as meeting the basic fire and shock requirements and batteries utilized in a product shallmeet the construction requirements of UL 2054, Standard for Safety for Household and CommercialBatteries.Exception No. 2: That portion of a

32、water shutoff valve that is part of the control and indicating equipmentthat meet all the requirements of the Standard for Electrical Plumbing Accessories, UL 1951 or theStandard for Electrically Operated Valves, UL 429, shall be considered as meeting the basic fire andshock requirements.7.3 Water s

33、hutoff valves shall meet the Standard for Electrically Operated Valves, UL 429. The shutoffvalves shall be of the normally open type. The shutoff valve shall be equipped with a manual shutoffmeans.PERFORMANCE8 System and Event Performance8.1 General8.1.1 Systems shall be capable of meeting the follo

34、wing event parameters.a) When exposed to water, the water detector shall respond with a signal or message within 1minute of exposure to water.b) A local audible alarm shall sound when water is detected. The local audible alarm shalleither be near the source of the water detection or at a centralized

35、 location such as a homecontrol unit. The audible alarm shall sound continuously for at least 30 seconds and repeatevery 15 minutes for a continuous 30 seconds until the system is reset. The audible alarm shallcomply with the audibility requirements in Section 11.c) The control and indication equipm

36、ent shall trigger the closure of the automatic shutoff valvewhen water is detected.d) The shutoff valve shall fully close within 1-minute when water is applied to the sensor andthe valve is triggered to close.JULY 21, 2017UL 32258UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDIST

37、RIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULe) Water leak detection systems shall be monitored for integrity so that within 80 minutes adistinctive audible trouble signal will indicate the occurrence of a single break (open), singleground fault, and short circuit in the interconnections, which would prevent

38、the intendedoperation of the interconnected devices. Prior to the application of a fault the system shall beenergized in the intended standby condition while connected to a rated source of voltage andfrequency. A wireless receiver shall report and identify the specific inoperative transmitter orequi

39、valent within 80 minutes seconds.f) Battery powered devices shall be supervised for low battery levels in accordance withSection 14.1 Battery Trouble Voltage Determination Test.g) A product that uses a battery as the main source of supply shall be capable of intendedoperation at the battery voltage

40、at which an audible trouble signal is obtained, followed by 7days of an audible trouble signal indication in accordance with Section 14.8.2 Remote notifications8.2.1 Remote notifications that indicate status of the system are allowed to be sent to remote devicesother than those that are constantly m

41、anned. All remote notification features will be required to performthe function as indicated in the manufactures installation instructions. Remote notifications shall not havean adverse effect of the normal operation of the water leak detection system.9 Water Detectors9.1 Water detection test9.1.1 A

42、 representative system shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturers installationinstructions as a guide. It is not necessary to install a shut-off valve for this test. The purpose of the testis to determine if the water sensor detects the presence of water within the time period required

43、by 9.1.4.9.1.2 The water used for this test shall have an electrical conductivity of 340 S/cm 50.9.1.3 The water sensor shall be positioned in a plastic tray in a manner to simulate the intended positionof the device. The sensor shall be connected to a control unit that will provide an indication wh

44、en thesensor detects water.9.1.4 Water shall be added to the plastic tray to fully cover exposed sensors. The sensor shall respondwith an indication that water is present within 60 sec of the exposure to water. A local audible alarm shallsound upon detection of water.JULY 21, 2017 UL 3225 9UL COPYRI

45、GHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL9.2 Undervoltage9.2.1 A water detection sensor and associated control unit products powered from other than a primarybattery shall operate as intended while energized at 85 percent of rated voltage for no

46、n-battery poweredproducts. For units powered from a primary battery, the test voltage shall be the least favorable batterytrouble signal voltage and resistance levels based upon production tolerances. See 14.2.9.2.2 For operation at the reduced voltage, three products are to be energized from a sour

47、ce of ratedsupply, following which the voltage is to be reduced to 85 percent of the rated supply voltage fornon-battery operated smoke alarms, or the battery trouble level voltage and resistance for primary batteryoperated products, and then tested for operation. For units intended to be energized

48、from a separatepower supply, the undervoltage shall be applied to the input of the power supply.9.3 Overvoltage9.3.1 A water detection sensor and associated control unit products shall operate continuously for itsintended signaling performance while energized at 110 percent of its rated supply volta

49、ge.9.3.2 Products that use batteries for either primary or standby power is to be tested for operation at 110percent of marked rated nominal battery voltage, whether the batteries are primary or secondary types.9.4 Immersion test9.4.1 The water sensor shall operate as intended after 24 hours in water immersion.9.4.2 The water sensor shall be fully immersed in water for 24 hours. The product shall be air dried for aperiod of 5 minutes after immersion.9.4.3 The product shall operate as intended when tested in accordance with 9.2. The sensor shall notproduce an alarm cond
