21、 (Doppler shift).CONSTRUCTION6 General6.1 Meters with moving parts in the waterway or parts that are susceptible to damage from debris in thewaterway, shall be equipped with integral strainers or shall be provided with strainers as part of the meterassembly. Integral strainer assemblies shall comply
22、 with the requirements for Strainers, Section 10 andstrainers equipped as part of the meter assembly shall be certified for Fire Protection Service.6.2 Electronic portions of meter assemblies shall be evaluated for compliance with the applicableconstruction requirements of the Standard for General-P

24、/4 through 2 NPS.7.2 Meters connected directly to a fire suppression systems and not intended for residential applicationsshall be constructed for use with standard pipe size (NPS) sizes larger than 2 NPS.7.3 Meter sizes refer to the nominal diameter of the waterway through the inlet and outlet conn
25、ectionsand to the pipe size for which the connections are intended.8 Rated Pressure8.1 Meters shall be constructed for a minimum rated pressure of 175 psig (1.2 MPa).8.2 Meters intended for residential application in multipurpose piping systems as specified in theStandard for the Installation of Spr
26、inkler Systems in One- and Two-Family Dwellings and ManufacturedHomes, NFPA 13D shall be permitted to be rated 130 psig (0.89 MPa) or higher.9 Materials9.1 Nonmetallic materials exposed to water9.1.1 A plastic or other nonmetallic part, other than rubber parts such as seals and O rings that isnormal
27、ly exposed to water, is to be judged on the basis of:a) Mechanical strength;b) Water absorption;c) Resistance to deterioration due to aging; andd) Volumetric and dimensional changes. See 12.1.1.1 12.1.2.2.9.1.2 An elastomeric part of such type used as a seal in a meter assembly is to be judged on th
28、e basisof tensile strength, elongation, and resistance to aging. 36、 rubber and synthetic elastomers)12.1.1 Air oven aging of moving parts exposed to water12.1.1.1 After air-oven aging for 90 days at 100 1C (212 2F):a) There shall be no warping, creeping, cracking, or other evidence of deterioration of a plasticor other like non-metallic component that may impair th
37、e intended operation of the meter.b) The izod impact strength shall not be reduced by more than 30 percent.c) A meter assembled with aged components shall comply with the requirements in theCalibration Test, Section 16.12.1.1.2 The izod impact strength tests are to be conducted in the as received an
38、d aged conditions inaccordance with Standard Test Methods for Determining the Izod Pendulum Impact Resistance ofPlastics, ASTM D256.12.1.1.3 If a material cannot withstand the temperature specified in 12.1.1.1 without excessive softening,distortion, or deterioration, an air-oven aging test at a lowe
39、r temperature for a longer period of time shallbe conducted. If a material can withstand a higher temperature than specified in 12.1.1.1 withoutexcessive softening, distortion, or deterioration, an air-oven aging test at a higher temperature for ashorter period of time shall be permitted. The durati
40、on of exposure is to be calculated from the followingequation:D = (92,000)e-0.0693tin which:D is the test duration in days; andt is the test temperature in degrees C.12.1.1.4 Plastic or other like non-metallic parts, and sample components to be aged, are to be supportedin a full draft, circulating a
41、ir oven that has been preheated to 100 1C (212 2F) or the calculatedtemperature in 12.1.1.3. Samples shall be supported so that they do not touch one another or the sidesof the oven. The samples are to be aged for the required time period, at full draft, and then allowed tocool in air at 23 2C (73 4
42、F) for at least 4 hours before any test or dimensional check is conducted.Prior to any tests, rubber parts complying with the requirements in 12.2.1 and 12.2.2 are to be installedin the meter, if they are not included in the aging test. As used in this test, the term full draft refers tothe air flow
43、 over the samples in the oven with the oven air inlet and outlet full open. The oven used foraccelerated aging is to be Type IIA as specified in the Standard Specification for Gravity-Convection andForced-Ventilation Ovens, ASTM E145.MAY 13, 2011 SUBJECT 327B 9UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED

45、allic component, that may impair the intended operation of the meter.b) The izod impact strength shall not be reduced by more than 30 percent.c) A meter assembled with aged components shall comply with the requirements in CalibrationTest, Section 16.12.1.2.2 If a material cannot withstand the temper
46、ature specified in 12.1.2.1 without excessive softening,distortion, or deterioration, a water aging test at a lower temperature for a longer period of time shall bepermitted. 47、ion in days; andt is the test temperature in degrees C.12.1.3 Air oven aging of stationary parts exposed to water12.1.3.1 After air-oven aging for 90 days at 100 1C (212 2F):a) There shall be no warping, creeping, cracking, or other evidence of deterioration of a plasticor other like non-metallic co
48、mponent that may impair the intended operation of the meter.b) A meter assembled with aged components, shall be operated at its maximum continuousflow for a period of 1 hour without malfunction or deterioration as indicated by a change in thehydraulic friction loss value exceeding 1 psi of an as rec
49、eived (unaged) sample at a flowvelocity of 15 ft/s based on Schedule 40 steel pipe for the nominal meter size.12.1.3.2 If a material cannot withstand the temperature specified in 12.1.3.1 without excessive softening,distortion, or deterioration, an air-oven aging test at a lower temperature for a longer period of time shallbe conducted. If a material can withstand higher temperature than specified in 12.1.3.1 without excessivesoftening, distortion, or deterioration, an air-oven aging test at a higher temperature for a shorter periodof time shall
