、t retention in housing (torsional) FOREWORD 1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international co-operation on all question
、s concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC Publication(s)”
、). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collabor
、ates closely with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations. 2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international consensus of opinion on t
、he relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all interested IEC National Committees. 3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure th

、maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence between any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in the latter. 5) IEC provides no marking procedure to indicate its approval and cannot be rendered respon

Use of the referenced publications is indispensable for the correct application of this publication. 9) Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this IEC Publication may be the subject o

、ion in housing (torsional) 1 Scope and object This part of IEC 60512, when required by the detail specification, is used for testing connectors within the scope of technical committee 48. It may also be used for similar devices when specified in a detail specification. The object of this document is
、 to detail a standard test method to assess the effectiveness of the insert retaining system to withstand torsional stresses likely to be encountered during normal use. NOTE The test method detailed in this document is a companion to the one detailed in IEC 60512-15-2 (see bibliographic reference).
、2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies. IEC 60512-1-1, Connectors
、for electronic equipment Tests and measurements Part 1-1: General examination Test 1a: Visual examination 3 Preparations 3.1 Preparation of specimen The specimen shall consist of a connector with its terminations, and wired if so specified in the detail specification. Cable fittings and accessories
、shall not be fitted. Any preconditioning given in the detail specification shall be applied. 3.2 Equipment For the application of the torsional loads, a suitable device able to provide the controls on the torque (intensity, rate of increase, time of constant torque application) shall be required (e.
、g.: a torsion testing machine). NOTE If the detail specification requires special preconditioning of the specimen, all the necessary equipment detailed in the relevant documents describing such conditioning would also be required 3.3 Mounting Mounting of the specimen shall be as specified in the det
、ail specification. 60512-15-3 IEC:2008 5 4 Test method Unless otherwise stated in the detail specification, 3 connectors shall be tested. 4.1 Procedure The housing of the connector shall be fixed in such a manner as not to influence the insert retention means. A specified torque shall be applied uti
、lising the test fixture specified in the detail specification. The torque shall be applied at a rate of 0,5 Nm/s until the specified torque is achieved and held at that value for 1 min. 4.2 Measurements 4.2.1 Before testing Visual examination according to IEC 60512-1-1 shall be done. 4.2.2 During te
、sting The displacement caused by the specified torque shall be measured. Any residual displacement after the specified torque is removed shall be measured. These displacements shall be recorded. The angular displacement of the insert if any shall not exceed that which may be given in the detail spec
、ification. 4.2.3 After testing Visual examination according to IEC 60512-1-1 shall be done. 5 Details to be specified When this test is required by a detail specification, the following shall be given therein: a) the number of connectors to test if other than 3; b) preconditioning required; c) fitme
、nt of contacts and wiring of the specimen; d) mounting of the specimen; e) test fixture to be used; f) torque to be applied; g) permitted displacement, if any (during and after the test); h) any deviation from the standard test method. 6 60512-15-3 IEC:2008 Bibliography IEC 60512-15-2, Connectors fo
