Manufacture4.1 AnnealingBlooms
9、 and billets of the 400 series ofstainless steel types which are highly hardenable, such as Types414, 420, 431, 440A, 440B, and 440C, are commonly annealedprior to shipment and so specified in order to avoid thepossibility of thermal cracking. Those grades are not normallyfurnished in the as-rolled
10、or as-forged condition. Other hard-enable grades, such as Types 403, 410, 416, and 416 Se, whichmay also require annealing, depending on their compositionand size, are furnished suitable for cold cutting when sospecified on the purchase order.4.2 ConditioningMaterial may be conditioned by chip-ping
11、or grinding to remove injurious surface defects providedthe depth of conditioning does not exceed that which will affectthe surface condition or dimensions of the article to be forgedfrom the bar or billet.5. Chemical Composition5.1 The steel shall conform to the chemical compositionprescribed in Ta
