Scope1.1 This specification covers mineral-

3、colloid-stabilized,emulsified coal-tar pitch suitable for use as a weather-protective and aliphatic-solvent resistant coating over bitumi-nous pavements of airports, parking areas, and driveways.1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. Th

4、e values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.3 The following precautionary caveat pertains only to thetest method portion, Section 6, o

Materials and Manufacture3.1 The emulsion shall be made using tars having viscositiesof RT-11 or higher. The tars shall conform to the requirementsof Specification D490.3.2 Mineral fi

9、ller (mineral colloids) shall consist of finelyground clay, silica, or other inert inorganic materials.(WarningBentonitic or highly expansive clays may causedrying and shrinkage problems, which may affect the durabilityof the pavement sealer.)3.3 When specified, the emulsion shall be fortified witha

10、ntifreeze.4. Physical Requirements4.1 The emulsion shall be of suitable consistency for appli-cation by brush, squeegee, roller, or suitable spray equipment.The material shall be used as received. It shall not be dilutedwith water or thinned by heating. It shall bond firmly toproperly prepared damp

11、or primed surfaces.NOTE 1Pavement and ambient temperature should be not less than7C 45F at the time of application and for at least 12 h thereafter, withno precipitation of rain, snow, and so forth, until the emulsion has dried.4.2 The product shall be of smooth, uniform consistencywithout settlemen

12、t or segregation in storage to the extent thatit cannot be readily dispersed by ordinary stirring.4.3 The material, after stirring to homogeneity, shall besuitable for application by the selected method in single coatsof approximately 0.3 to 0.4 L/m234 to 1 gal/100 ft2 withoutappreciable drainage on

Test Methods6.1 Wet Film ContinuityUsing a spatula, spread the wetemulsion to a thin film on a sheet of standard 67.7-g/m218-lbmimeograph paper. As the emulsion is drawn out to a smear, itshall show a uniformly smooth nongranular consisten

19、cy, freeof coarse particles.6.2 Resistance to Freezing (when specified)Expose a rep-resentative specimen of the emulsion to a temperatureof 18C 0F for 24 h; then warm the specimen to 25C77F in an environment not exceeding 38C 100F and stirthoroughly.NOTE 2In any test utilizing an oven, the oven to b

20、e used shall be agravity convection type. Leave the mask forthe first coat in place during the drying

25、 period and remove itbefore the second mask is positioned for the final coatingapplication.6.12.2 Cure each coat for 96 h in agitated air at 25 6 1C77 6 2F and 50 6 10 % relative humidity.6.12.3 After completion of curing, fill the metal ring,pressed into, but not through, the coating, with kerosine

26、 (seeSection 25 on Resistance to Kerosine in Test Methods D2939).The kerosine shall be in accordance with Specification D3699.Expose the coating to kerosine for 24 h before evaluation.Remove the kerosine from the metal ring before examining thefilm for adhesion.6.13 Resistance to WaterTest the cured

27、 coating film,prepared as in 6.12, in accordance with 15.2 of Test MethodsD2939, but using distilled water.6.14 Resistance to Impact:6.14.1 Prepare the specimens used in this test by coatingmetal plates 75 by 225 by 3 mm 3 by 9 by18 in. in size.Degrease the metal with a suitable solvent, such as tri

28、chloro-ethylene; then polish with steel wool. Protect the reverse sideof the panel against corrosion.6.14.2 Apply the emulsion with a doctor blade set at athickness of 1.6 mm 464 in. to the prepared surface and allowto dry as described in 6.12.2.6.14.3 Then place each specimen, coating uppermost, on

29、 asolid horizontal base, and subject it to the impact of a 0.9-kg2-lb steel ball dropped from a height of 2.4 m 8 ft. 34、ated weathering, the suppliermay furnish a certification showing three years satisfactory field perfor-mance.7. Retest and Rejection7.1 If the results of any test do not conform to the require-ments of this specification, retesting to determine conformitymay be performed as agreed upon between the p

35、urchaser andthe seller.8. Inspection8.1 Inspection of material shall be made as agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the seller as part of the purchasecontract.9. Certification9.1 Upon request of the purchaser in the contract or order, amanufacturers certification that the material was manufactureda

36、nd tested in accordance with this specification together with areport of the test results shall be furnished at the time ofshipment.10. Packaging and Marking10.1 Emulsion shall be packaged to permit acceptance bycarrier for transportation and to afford adequate protectionfrom normal hazards of handl

37、ing and shipping.10.2 Each package shall be plainly marked with the nameand brand of the manufacturer or distributor as well as the typeor grade of the product.
