Well, routinely the board gathers to review remuneration and plan expenditure at the end of the financial year, and its also the period when we have our individual achievements and failu

37、res examined and receive feedback. Im not against this in principle honestly. Its just the way its handled. But at times I make a contrast between my last boss and the new one. My last boss used to arrive out of breath, shuffle through papers, which he was clearly looking at for the first time, and

38、make some vague remarks about my job, without allowing any interventions or explanations. Now, though, the new manager had drawn a comprehensive chart of my sales performance. So the meeting was clear and helpful and I left feeling positive. Thats absolutely the way to continue.Speaker 4F: It was su

39、ch a boring and suffering night. Id been staying at the office all afternoon seeking to make a decision with five other people from the department. It wasnt as easy as expected so we did take time to evaluate the different options. What Im saying is that its pretty tricky to find the right person to

40、 appoint at a position in that you have to consider how the candidate hits it off with the rest of the team and thats particularly critical in a small operation like ours. Anyway, that was what irritates me. I really back up our line manager, but shes not a flawless head. I cant criticize the ground

41、 work she does before meetings or the documents she draws up. Its just that she fails to make up her mind so a couple of people tend to take over. I wouldnt allow that, because it can unbalance a meeting.Speaker 5M: Frankly, Im not enthusiastic about round-the-clock meetings at Head Office. Theres p

42、lenty of matters to talk over so time is extended, even a whole day sometimes, but its difficult to keep concentrating, especially in the afternoon! I struggled to stay focused during the last one though. So I decided that it was the way it had been organizeda host of short sessions which needed act

43、ive participation right after lunch, why the more complex affairs had been discussed fully first thing. I must remember to do that. These meetings where we explore the strengths and weaknesses of possible additions to our range are very important. An added bonus is that we occasionally gain a chance

44、 to observe how junior staff are shaping up, because they sometimes give short presentations on the proposed models.
