Methods of Test6.1 Spl
20、itting Tensile Strength Test:6.1.1 Conduct the splitting tensile strength test in accor-dance with Test Method C1006 with the following modifica-tions.6.1.1.1 SamplingSample the mortar materials and AACblock used in the preparation of test specimens so that they arerepresentative of the lot from whi
21、ch they are selected.6.1.1.2 Test Block SelectionDry-cut test specimens fromAAC material conforming to Specification C1386. Each testset shall consist of five (5) pairs of test specimens. Each pair oftest specimens shall be cut from a full-size block as shown inFig. 1. Dry-cut cubes from block, each
22、 measuring 4 by 4 by 4in. (100 by 100 by 100-mm), 614-in. (66-mm). Clean cuttingdust from the cubes with dry air.6.1.1.3 Sample PreparationMix the mortar according toinstructions of the mortar manufacturer.(1) Orient the pairs so that the surface to be mortared is themanufactured face of the unit an
23、d not the cut face. Applymortar, in an amount recommended by the mortarmanufacturer, to the joint area of the specimen to produce a fullbedded joint, approximately116-in. (2-mm) to18-in. (3-mm)thick. Place the other specimen pair on top of the mortar so thatthe manufactured surfaces of the pair are
24、now both in contactwith the mortar. Press firmly by hand to ensure intimate contactbetween unit specimens and mortar. Clean excess mortar fromthe joint around the perimeter of the joined specimen toproduce a smooth, uniform surface across the joint. Cure thespecimens in air at a temperature of 75 6
25、15F (24 6 8C) anda relative humidity of less than 80 % for at least 28 days, or fora time prescribed by the mortar manufacturer, in a stackedposition.(2) Measure each cured test specimen to obtain an averagecross-sectional area of the mortared joint.6.1.1.4 Testing:(1) Attach12-in. (13-mm) diameter
26、steel rods, at least 4-in.(100-mm) long, to the test specimen using hot glue or otherappropriate method so that the rods touch and are aligned withthe upper and lower edges of the mortar joint between the twohalves of the test specimen (Fig. 2).(2) Place the test specimen into the compression testin
27、gmachine using compressible foam tubing as positioning aids(Fig. 2). Load to failure. Record peak load readings after eachspecimen is tested.7.
