Significance and Use4.1 This specification is used to establish the minimumrequ
35、irements for labeling protective clothing as heat and flameresistant. Testing is performed on the product in both an “asF2302 082received” condition and after ten laundering or dry cleaningcycles using standardized procedures. Users of this specifica-tion are also permitted to use laundering or dry
36、cleaningprocedures for conditioning samples as specified in the manu-facturers care instructions for a minimum of ten cycles.4.2 This specification is not intended to replace standardsthat have already been developed for specific types of flameand heat resistant protective clothing, including clothi
37、ng forprotection from flash fire, clothing for protection againstelectric arc, and protective clothing for various fire fighting andemergency response applications. See Appendix X1 for a listof specifications for specific types of heat and flame resistantprotective clothing.4.3 This specification do
38、es not address all areas of protec-tive clothing performance for heat and flame exposure. Forexample, the specification does not address insulation providedby these garments. Rather this specification is designed toprovide an assessment of the potential of the clothing itself tobecome a hazard to th
39、e wearer if exposed to flame and highheat.4.4 This specification does not provide an overall evaluationof the clothings flame or heat resistance. Instead, heat andflame resistance tests of the primary materials used in theconstruction of the clothing are used to assess clothing heat andflame resista
40、nce. This specification permits excluding testingof clothing components that are not in direct contact with thebody during normal wearing. Therefore, it is important thatusers of this specification recognize that certain components,based on their composition, size, and location could contributeto bu
41、rn injury in the event of a high heat or flame exposure.5. Requirements5.1 Test the materials used in the construction of protectiveclothing items for heat and flame resistance as specified inSection 8. Elastic, hook and loop fastener, closures, labels,emblems, patches and other clothing components,
42、 when not incontact with the wearers body in the normal wearing of thegarment, shall be permitted to be excluded from testing. Alltested materials shall meet the minimum criteria provided inTable 1.NOTE 2While this specification permits excluding elastic, hook andloop fastener, closures, labels, emb
43、lems, patches, and other clothingcomponents from testing, users of the specification are cautioned thatthese components could contribute to burn injury depending on theircomposition, size, and location on the protective clothing item beinglabeled.6. Sampling6.1 Testing shall be performed on material
44、 specimens re-moved from manufactured protective clothing.6.2 Testing shall also be permitted to be performed onmaterial samples representative of the materials used in theconstruction of the garment.7. Conditioning7.1 GeneralSubject material samples to both room tem-perature and laundering (or dry
45、cleaning) conditioning prior totesting. For disposable protective clothing or protective cloth-ing intended only for a single use, do not launder or dry clean.For protective clothing indicated or labeled as washable,subject material samples to room temperature and launderingconditioning, specified i
46、n 7.2 and 7.3, respectively. For protec-tive clothing indicated or labeled as dry clean only, subjectmaterial specimens to room temperature and dry cleaningconditioning, specified in 7.2 and 7.4, respectively. For protec-tive clothing indicated or labeled for washing and dry cleaning,subject separat
