26、re of drivenfasteners shall be of Types 302, 304, 305, or 316.6.3 Carbon steel wire for the manufacture of hardened steelnails shall be suitable for heat treatment to a minimumhardness of 37 HRC.6.4 Sheet steel used in the manufacture of cut nails (Type II)and cut spikes (Type III) shall be a medium
27、-carbon sheet steel.6.5 Copper used in the manufacture of driven fasteners shallcontain a minimum of 98 % pure copper.6.6 Copper-clad steel wire used in the manufacture ofdriven fasteners shall contain not less than 20 % copper byweight. The average thickness of copper on the steel wire shallbe not
28、less than 10 % of the radius of the clad wire; theminimum thickness of copper on the steel wire shall be not lessthan 8 % of the radius of the clad wire.6.7 Aluminum alloy wire used in the manufacture of fas-teners shall conform to Alloy 2024, 5056, 6061, or 6110 andhave a minimum ultimate tensile s
29、trength of 60 000 psi.NOTE 3Smooth shank nails are sometimes chemically treated toremove grease, oil, and foreign matter and to roughen the surfacemicroscopically. Mechanically deformed nails are sometimes cleaned toremove grease and foreign matter.6.8 Brass wire used in the manufacture of fasteners
30、 shall beof good commercial quality suitable for the purpose.7. Physical Properties7.1 DuctilityThe fasteners shall be sufficiently ductile towithstand cold bending without fracture, as specified in Table2 for various materials used in the manufacture of fastenersutilizing the conventional bend test
31、 described in Test MethodsF680. Mandrel diameter used in this test shall not exceednail/wire diameter. The cold bend test shall not apply tounhardened nails with deformed shanks.7.2 Tensile StrengthFinished driven fasteners are not nor-mally subject to tension testing. However, the wire or sheetused
32、 to manufacture the fastener is tested as required forcontrol in the production process during manufacture.7.3 Number per poundNumber per pound figures are notrequirements. Number per pound varies (1) as actual dimen-sions vary within tolerance ranges, (2) between bright andcoated nails, and (3) wit
33、h zinc coating thickness for galvanizednails. No tolerances have been established for these figures.They are for reference only and shall not be used as productacceptance/rejection criteria.8. Dimensions and Tolerances8.1 Nominal dimensions of nails and spikes shall be asshown in Tables 353. The fol
34、lowing dimensional designationsshall apply:S = trade designation (reference in penny weight),L = length, in.,H = head diameter or width, in.,D = shank diameter, in.,B = head separation, in. (Table 17), andNo./lb = approximate count per pound.8.1.1 The lengths, L, of nails and spikes with flat heads
35、orparallel shoulders under the head shall be measured from underthe head or shoulder to the tip of the point. All other nails andspikes shall be measured overall.8.1.2 The diameter, D, of smooth shank nails and spikesshall be measured away from the gripper marks. The diameter,D, of deformed shank na
36、ils shall be measured beforedeformation, or when available, the smooth section of theshank away from any gripper marks. All diameter dimensionsshall be taken prior to the application of or after the removal ofany coatings or finish.8.2 Tolerances on Nominal Dimensions for Nails andSpikes:8.2.1 Lengt
37、h tolerances shall be 6132 in. for lengths up toand including 1 in.; 6116 in. for lengths over 1 in., up to andincluding 212 in.; 6332 for lengths over 212 in., up to andincluding 7 in.; and 618 in. for all lengths over 7 in.8.2.2 Shank diameter tolerances shall be 60.002 in. fordiameters smaller th
38、an 0.076 in. and 60.004 in. for diameters0.076 in. and larger.8.2.3 Head Diameter Tolerances:8.2.3.1 Hand DrivenTolerances on concentric round headdiameters shall be 610 % of the nominal head diameter(individual measurement). The difference in diameter acrossthe long axis shall not exceed that acros
39、s the short axis by morethan 10 %. A fillet shall be provided under the head if nototherwise specified.8.2.3.2 Power-Tool DrivenTolerances on head diametersof power-tool driven nails shall comply with the nail manu-facturers specifications and shall be suitable for use in themake and model of the to

43、lerances on power-tool drivenstaples shall comply with the manufacturers specification andshall be suitable for use in the make and model tool specified(see Tables 56 and 57).8.4.4 Crown width tolerances are 6132 in. unless otherwisespecified.8.5 Nominal Dimensions for Cut Nails, Type IIUnlessotherw
44、ise specified, cut nails shall be sheared from mediumcarbon sheet steel and shall have a wedge-shaped shank with asheared square point end narrower than the upset head end.Thedesignation T in Tables 4950 refers to sheet thickness infinished product. 45、ails in 8.1.8.6 When gage is used for a nominal diameter dimension inthe application of this specification, it shall be in accordancewith the decimal equivalents as shown in Specification A510/A510M, unless otherwise specified.9. Workmanship9.1 Fasteners covered by this specification shall be true t
46、oshape, well-finished, free from imperfections, clean, and free ofcorrosion. Power-tool driven collated items shall be uniformand aligned properly in their assembled form for use in powertools.10. Protective Coatings and Finishes10.1 Zinc Coating:10.1.1 Driven fasteners required to be zinc coated sh
47、all becut and formed from hot-dip, hard-wiped, galvanized steelwire, electrodeposited (electrogalvanized) steel wire, or zincflake/chromate dispersion-coated steel wire; or they shall becut from uncoated (bright) steel wire and shall be hot-dipgalvanized, electrodeposited zinc coated, mechanically d
48、epos-ited zinc coated, or zinc flake/chromate dispersion coated afterforming.10.1.2 Hot-dip galvanized or electrogalvanized steel wirefor the manufacture of fasteners shall have a coating weight inaccordance with Specification A641/A641M, SupplementaryRequirements, Class 1.10.1.3 Hot-dip galvanized
49、steel fasteners coated after form-ing shall have a coating weight in accordance with Specifica-tion A153/A153M, Class D, when a heavier coating forexterior use is specified. If not otherwise specified, the coatingweight shall be in accordance with Specification A641/A641M, Supplementary Requirements, Class 1.10.1.4 Mechanically deposited zinc coatings applied tofasteners after forming shall have a thickness in accordancewith Specification B695, Class 40, unless otherwise specified.10.2 Other Coatings and Finishes (When Specif
