Summary of Test Method4.1 The carpet test specimen is secured to a table with thepile surface exposed and is subjected to the action of threecasto

9、rs which produce an eccentric turning motion under aweighted roller chair device that moves across the test speci-men for a specified number of cycles.5. Significance and Use5.1 This practice is applicable for use in testing the dura-bility of pile yarn floor covering of all types.5.2 This practice

10、is designed to simulate the stress on a pileyarn floor covering from the action of weighted roller chaircastors over an extended period of time.5.3 The specimen is tested under conditions that maysimulate an actual flooring installation. This may include thepile yarn floor covering plus a specified

11、underlayment cushion.5.4 This practice is used to prepare specimens for additionaltesting, including but not limited to: visual assessment ofdelamination of the secondary backing, visual assessment ofthe pile surface, resistance to delamination measurement, tuftbind, and pile yarn raveling.6. Appara

12、tus and Materials6.1 Roller Chair Tester is constructed of steel with a rotatingcircular table and a weighted roller fixture, rotating off-centerto the table. The apparatus also has electronic controls, aprotective cage, and a vacuum system to remove lint and dust.The area of contact between the rol

13、lers and the pile yarn wearwill be an annulus with an outside diameter of 23.6 6 0.6 in.(600 6 15 mm) and inside diameter of 3.9 6 0.6 in. 18、re reversing direction.6.1.2 The roller fixture is offset 7.8 6 0.2 in. (198 6 4 mm)from the center of the base plate and has three chair castorwheels that are 2.0 6 0.1 in. (50 6 1 mm) diameter by 0.75 60.10 in. (20 6 1 mm) wide made of polyamide. Hardness is 956 5 Shore A, as measured by Test Meth

19、od D2240 for RubberPropertyDurometer Hardness. The three wheels are posi-tioned 5.1 6 0.1 in. (130 6 2 mm) from the center of thefixture and staggered by 2.1 6 0.1 radians (120) around thecircle. The wheels are offset from the position in the fixture by1.3 6 0.1 in. (32 6 2 mm) so as to lag behind d

20、uring the rotarymotion of the fixture.6.1.3 Motor drive controls the rotation of the circular tableand the roller fixture simultaneously at a speed of 6.0 6 0.5rad/s (57 6 5 r/min).6.1.4 Weighted disks provide a force of 66 lb per roller fora total of 198 6 4lb(906 2 kg). A handwheel on a screw isus

21、ed to engage weights and raise or lower the roller fixture.6.1.5 Protective cage covers the rotating table and rollerfixture and is in place before operation of the electric motorbegins.6.1.6 Vacuum cleaner with suction hose is attached to aheight adjustable head to remove lint and residue duringtes

22、ting. The width of the vacuum head extends across thesection traveled by the castor chair wheels. The suctionopening is 120 6 8in2(75 000 6 5000 mm2). The suctionefficiency is 60 6 6ft3/min (27 6 3 L/s). The vacuum systemwill operate for 1 to 1.5 min for every 5 min of operation of theequipment.6.1.

23、7 The following controls and safety interlocks for themotor are used. 25、 to prevent damage to the equipment in the event thespecimen obstructs the rotational path.6.2 Specimen backing sheet of rigid acrylic or comparablematerial is 31.25 6 0.13 in. (790 6 4 mm) diameter andapproximately 0.6 in. (15 mm) thick.6.2.1 Alternately, use particle board or AC grade plywoodwith

26、the A-side in contact with the specimen, approximately0.25 to 0.625 in. (6 to 16 mm) thick, depending upon thethickness of the composite of carpet, underlayment, adhesive,and backing sheet, to permit adequate clearance between thetop of the carpet and limit switch.NOTE 1A thickness of approximately

27、0.625 in. (16 mm) is preferredto maintain a rigid and stable substrate.6.2.2 Either a circular or semicircular specimen template ordie is used to cut the carpet specimen. A 31.25 6 0.13 in. (7906 4 mm) diameter acrylic sheet is preferred.6.3 Underlayment cushion may be used to simulate thespecific p

28、ile yarn floor covering installation. Choose from oneof the many choices of commercially available underlayments.6.4 The pile yarn floor covering specimen, underlaymentcushion (if used), and specimen backing sheet shall be securedtogether following standard pile yarn floor covering installationmetho

29、ds or alternate methods. This composite will be termedthe test specimen assembly.6.4.1 A flooring adhesive may be applied according to theguidelines of the manufacturer to secure the test specimen orthe underlayment and test specimen directly to the backingsheet.6.4.2 Alternate methods may be used t

30、o secure the testspecimen and underlayment to the backing sheet, including butnot limited to: double sided tape, knitted nylon coated with apressure sensitive adhesive, tack strips, and wood screws if thespecimen is mounted on plywood.6.5 An upright vacuum cleaner, with a rotating brush andbeater ba

31、r, unless this type of apparatus is not recommended bythe manufacturer of the pile yarn floor covering under test, inwhich case the appropriate recommended device should beused.7. Sampling7.1 Perform this practice on a test specimen of pile yarnfloor covering measuring 31.25 6 0.13 in. (790 6 4 mm)d

32、iameter using a circular template or die.7.1.1 If a semi-circular test specimen is required, use astraight edge and razor knife to cut the specimen in thedirection of manufacture into two semicircles.7.1.2 Alternately, use a semi-circular template or die to cuta test specimen.8. Conditioning8.1 Cond

33、ition the specimens as directed in Practice D1776in the standard atmosphere for testing textiles.9. Preparation of Test Specimens9.1 Direct Adhesion to the Backing Sheet:9.1.1 Apply flooring adhesive according to the guidelines ofthe manufacturer to the backing sheet and attach either a fullcircle t

34、est specimen or two semicircle specimens such that thestraight edges are joined together.9.1.2 Place a backing sheet on the pile side of the specimenand apply a mass of 5.5 to 11.0 lb (2.5 to 5.0 kg) evenlydistributed on the surface of the test specimen to preventcurling of the specimen while the ad

36、est specimen.9.2 Direct Adhesion to an Underlayment:9.2.1 First secure the underlayment to the backing sheetwith the flooring adhesive according to the guidelines of themanufacturer. After the adhesive has set, secure the testspecimen to the underlayment as in 9.1.9.3 Alternative Adhesion Methods fo

37、r Full Circle Speci-mens:9.3.1 Attach a full circle carpet specimen to an acrylic orwood backing sheet using double-faced pressure sensitive tapeor adhesive coated knitted mesh material and condition.9.3.2 Use wood screws around the perimeter of the speci-men at intervals of 3 6 1 in. (75 6 25 mm) t

38、o secure thespecimen and underlayment, if used, to a plywood backingsheet. The screws are positioned outside of the annular weararea.10. Procedure10.1 Prior to each test, inspect the roller base assembly forsigns of wear or damage. Confirm that the swivel and castorsmove freely when turned by hand w

39、ithout evidence of stiffnessor looseness and the wheels are smooth and clean.10.1.1 Replace worn or damaged castors with new, factorysupplied equipment. If only the polyamide wheel is damaged,there is no need to replace the bearings. The castors should beexpected to perform acceptably for up to 1 50

40、0 000 cycles withregular use.10.1.2 For new chair castors or polyamide wheels, conditionthem on a pile yarn surface for a minimum of 25 000 cycles ofrotation prior to testing.10.1.3 Establish and follow a procedure to validate that thewear pattern is correct Use carbonless paper applied to abacking

41、sheet to imprint the wear pattern and compare againstan established standard for the machine (see Fig. 2).10.2 Prior to testing, vacuum the test specimen with anupright vacuum cleaner making four forward and backwardpasses making sure that all of the area has been covered.10.3 Position the prepared

42、test specimen on the base tablesuch that the holes in the backing sheet fit over the stabilizingbolts.10.4 Adjust the vacuum nozzle to a position between 0.25and 0.5 in. (5 and 10 mm) above the yarn pile.10.5 Close the protective cage and visually confirm that thelimit switches are in position.10.6

43、Set the counter endpoint to the total number of cyclesof rotation required.10.7 Check the vacuum filtration and empty or replace iffilled and confirm vacuum operation.10.8 Start the machine in automatic. It will automaticallyswitch off when it completes the designated number of cyclesof rotation.10.

44、9 Remove the test specimen and backing disk from themachine.11. Report11.1 State that the tester was operated as directed in PracticeD6962.11.2 Report the following information:11.2.1 The atmospheric conditions if other than standard,11.2.2 All information necessary for complete identificationof the
