General terminology pertaining to roof drains asdescribed in ANSI/ASME A112.6.4 and ASME A112.6.9 shallalso apply in this guide.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2

18、.1 crown, nthe elevation of the top of a pipe inner wall.3.2.2 drain, nany pipe which carries rain water, wastewater or waterborne wastes in a building drainage system.3.2.3 drainage system, nincludes all the piping withinpublic or private premises, which conveys sewage, rain water,or other liquid w

It does notinclude the mains of public sewer treatment or disposal plants.3.2.4 siphonic roof drain, na roof drain with a fixeddevice allowing water to enter without the ingress of air thatsustains a negative differential fluid head within the pipesystem thereby i

20、nducing flow without pipe gradient (pitch).4. Significance and Use4.1 The information provided in this standard guide isintended for use by designers and specifiers of siphonic roofdrainage systems and their related components. Specifically, this guide addresses the use and limitations of plastic pip

21、e andfittings in siphonic roof drainage systems where internaloperating pressures are typically sub-atmospheric.5. Procedure5.1 GeneralRefer to the governing plumbing code (forexample, IPC, UPC) to determine if plastic pipe and fittings arepermitted for building roof drainage systems in the projectj

22、urisdiction. When permitted, select the appropriate material aslisted in the plumbing code that is approved for roof drainageapplications. Use of plastic pipe materials not approved by thegoverning code must be approved by the local authority havingjurisdiction. Regardless of material approval, use

23、plastic pipematerials only when not prohibited by fire resistance require-ments of the governing building code (that is, NFPA 5000,IBC, UPC). Pipe materials must also meet the fire resistiverequirements as specified in the building code and as deter-mined by Test Method E84.5.1.1 Specific types of P

24、VC pipe appropriate for siphonicroof drainage systems include, but are not limited to: Specifi-cations D2665, D2949, and D3034. When pipe diameters of212-in. (64-mm) must be specified, Specification D1785 plainend pressure pipe shall be used as it shares the same manufac-turing standards as Specific

26、e materials. Cellular-core plastic pipe (forexample, Specifications F628 and F891) shall be avoidedunless the respective pipe product manufacturer can certify bytesting that the pipe product can withstand full vacuuminternally without collapse. Solid wall plastic pipe of wallthickness of Schedule 40

27、 or greater (including the equivalentSDR thickness) is adequate for siphonic roof drain systemsub-atmospheric pressure regimes. Pipe wall thicknesses lessthan Schedule 40 shall not be specified.5.3 Hangers, Supports and BracingRefer to the governingplumbing code for pipe support requirements. If loc

28、al codes donot address pipe support, support plastic pipe every four feet oncenter and at every change in direction. Brace plastic pipe withlateral restraints every thirty feet on center and at every changein direction for hanger rods longer than 18 inches.5.4 Thermal Displacement and Expansion Fitt

29、ings:5.4.1 The normal mode of thermal transition in siphonicroof drainage systems is from room temperature to a 40F(4.4C) minimum resulting in an overall contraction of plasticpiping in siphonic roof drainage systems. This occurs when thewarm pipe in a heated building is filled with a cold rain.Ther

This is particularlyimportant for pipe sections that pass through fire rated wallswhere m

Expansion joints usedin pump suction applications are recommended5.5 Fire Stopping:5.5.1 Plastic piping passing through fire rated walls and

33、floors must be fire stopped with appropriate and approved firestopping assemblies as tested and certified under Test MethodE814 (ANSI/UL 1479). Other fire resistive joint systems mustbe installed and inspected in accordance with Test MethodE1966 and Practice E2393. Fire stop assemblies should beinst

Evaluation of system performance forboth the “new” and the “aged” condition of the pipe inner wallis recommended.5.7.2 For the “new” pipe condition, use an absolute rough-ness value of 0.000005 ft (0.00152 mm).5.7.3 For the “aged” pipe condition

38、use an absolute rough-ness value of 0.00002 ft (0.0061 mm).5.8 Reducers and Increasers:5.8.1 The increase or reduction of pipe diameter in verticalorientations shall be provided by either concentric or eccentricreducer fittings.5.8.2 The increase of pipe diameter in horizontal orienta-tions shall be

39、 provided with eccentric reducer fittings with the“flat” side of the fitting oriented with the crown of the pipe(that is, match crowns).5.9 Inspection:5.9.1 Verify the pipe and fitting specification(s) of theinstalled pipe to ensure the specified pipe product and wallthickness have been installed.5.

40、9.2 Ensure piping has been supported and braced asspecified by the designer.5.9.3 Verify that specified expansion fittings and fire stop-ping assemblies have been installed.5.9.4 Verify that piping has been connected to all roofdrains.6.
