The United Kingdom has taken part in the preparation of the international standard through Sub-committee 1 1 of ISO/TC 20. Terminology and conventions. The t

5、ext of the international standard has been approved as suitable for publication as a British Standard without deviation. Some terminology and certain conventions are not identical with those used in British Standards; attention is drawn especially to the following. The comma has been used as a decim

6、al marker. In British Standards it is current practice to use a full point on the baseline as the decimal marker. In British Standards it is current practice to use the spelling sulphuric instead of sulfuric. Wherever the words International Standard appear, referring to this standard, they should b

7、e read as British Standard . Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. British Standard M 58: 1986 ES1 M*58 8b W Lb24669 0097489 5 1 Scope and field of application This International Standard specifies the requirements for pro- ducing and testing a

8、n unsealed anodic coating on titanium and titanium alloys. The anodic coating is produced by the sulfuric. acid proceso. The coating is used with solid film lubricants for protection of titanium fasteners against galling, for limited protection of less noble metals against galvanic corrosion when in

9、 contact with titanium or for other approved uses. 2 Technical requirements 2.1 Process details 2.1,l The anodizing solution shall consist of technical grade sulfuric acia in water with a nominal composition in the range from 200 to 400 g/l of H2S04. The solution shall be maintained at a composition

10、 within f10 % of the nominal composition chosen, The chloride content, measured as NaCI, shall not exceed 0,2 g/l. Provided agreement is obtained from the pur- chaser, the chemical composition of the solution may be changed if the coating obtained meets all other requirements of this International S

11、tandard. 2.1.2 The dissolved metal content of the solution, calculated as titanium, shall not exceed 20 g:I. 2.1.3 The solution shall be used at a temperature of 21 L 2 OC. The temperature control equipment shall be capable of maintaining the solution temperature within f 2 OC of the control set poi

12、nt. 2.1.4 The solution shall De contained either in a cor:asion resistant steel tank or a steel tank lined with a suitable acid resistant material. Except in cases where tanks are lead-lined, lined tanks require auxiliary cathode plates made from a material which will not contaminate the solution. 2

13、.1.5 A variable direct current (d.c.1 power source and associated controls and instrumentation for reading applied voltage and current are required. 2.1.6 All fixtures, such as wire, hooks, clamps and racks used to suspend the parts, shall be made from titanium or titanium alloy. 2.1.7 The picklirig

14、 solution shall contain a mixture of nitri and hydrofluoric acids at the following concentrations: 280 to 560 g/l of HNO, 69 % (m/m)l 15 to 25 g/l of HF 70 ?/o (rnlmil 2.2 Preparation for anodizing 2.2.1 Parts shall be thoroughly alkaline cleaned to ensure that all surfaces are free from contaminant

15、s such as grease, oil and mill niarkings. 2.2.2 Chlorinated solvents and methyl alcohol shall not be used for dsgreasing. 2.2.3 Parts shall be firmly attached to the racking devico. Contact areas shall be kept as small as possible and, when practicable, shall be on a surface not required to be coate

16、d. When parts are to be coated on all surfaces, contacts shall be located on areas indicated on the drawing. 2.2.4 Parts shall be oriented so as to minimize gas entrapment during processing. e 2.2.5 After alkaline cleaning, parts shall be etched for 5 to 20 s after the commencement of gassing in the

17、 nitric- hydrofluoric acid pickling solution and then rinsed thoroughly in cold running water. Heavily scaled parts which do not pro- vide a clean, bright surface after the treatment outlined above may require fine alumina grit-blasting or pretreatment in ar, oxidizing alkaline solution prior to etc

18、hing. 2.3 Anodizing procedure 2.3.1 The parts shall then be immersed in the anodizing soh- tion. The parts shall be made the anode and the tank, or aux- iliary plates, the cathode. Current shall be applied, with the voltage being raised to a value within the range from 15 to 20 V for a period of 15

19、min or until the desired coloration has been achieved. The initial current density shall be approximately 0,2 A/dm2, with reductior: to an approximate vallie of 0,05 A!dm2 over the greater part of the anodizing cvcle. 2.3.2 During processing of intricate parts, the solution should be agitated in ord

20、er to minimize entrapment of gas in pockets and blind holes. If necessary, parts should be repositioned periodically to bring the electrolyte into contact with uncoated areas and to prevent attack at the liquid/gas interface in pockets and blind holes. 1 BSI M*58 b W Lb24bb9 0099490 L = - British St

21、andard M/58 : 1986 3.3 After completion of the anodizhg cycle, parts shall be a sed thoroughly in cold, running water, then rinsed in clean, hot water and dried. 2.3.4 If stubsequent surface treatments are to be applied, parts should be handled and stored in such a manner as to avoid thsm being cont

22、aminated. 3 Quality assurance provisions 3.1 Responsibility for inspection Unless otherwise negotiated, the processos is responsible for the performance of all quality assurance requirements of this International Standard. 3.2 Visual examination 3.2.7 The coating shall be smooth and adherent, unifor

23、m in exture and appearance, and shall exhibit a uniform blue-violet lour. It shall be continlious except at contact points. * 3.2.2 Parts showing burned or powdery areas, loose film, discontinuities such as breaks or scratches, a yellow colour or any other damage or imperfection in the anodic film w

24、hich may be detrimental to the function or performance of the parts shall be deemed to be unacceptable. Such paris may be repickled and reprocessed only after consultation with the quality assurance authority responsihle. 3.2.3 Where required in the contract or order, the colour of the parts shall b

25、e substantial!y the same as that of a similarly treated control sample of the same alloy in the same heat treat- ment state and with the same surface finish as the parts being inspected. 3.3 Approval 3.3.1 Sample coated parts and panels shall be approved by the purchaser and, if necessary, by the qu

26、ality assurance authority responsible, before production parts are supp!ied, unless such approval be waived. 3.3.2 Complete documentation of all quality control pro- cedures and tests shall be made available to the purchaser upon request. 3.3.3 The processor shall use manufacturing procedures, pro-

27、cesses and methods of inspection on production parts which are the same as those used on :he approved sample parts. No deviation from the procedures shall be permitted without re- approval by the purchaser. 4 Packaginc; and delivery 4.1 Packaging Anodized parts shall be packaged in such a manner as

28、to en- sure that the parts will be protected during shipment and/or storage against damage due to mishandling, exposure to the weather, or any normal hazard. 4.2 Delivery Anodized parts shall be prepared for shipment and delivery in accordance with good standard practice prevailing in the industry t

29、o ensure carrier acceptame and safe transportation to the point of delivery. Packaging shall conform to carrier rules and regulations applicable :o ?he mode of transportation.
