17、 been published to provide the Specification reference for BSI certification using the well known BSI Certification Trade Mark, the Kitemark, which is registered under the Trade Marks Act : 1938 and can only be used under licence from BSI. This Product Approval Specification is not a British Standar

18、d and will be withdrawn on publication of its content in or as a British Standard. This PAS has been developed by BSI Product CeMication in the absence of a single British Standard covering all component elements of an Integrated Protection Helmet, using relevant technical requirements and criteria

19、derived from related British and European Standards and from other technical data and criteria validated by BSI Testing. The PAS has been prepared and published by BSI Product Certification who retain its ownership and copyright. Acknowledgement is given to the following organisations who were consu

20、lted in the preparation of this specification: British Coal Union of Democratic Miners Centurion Safety Products BSI Testing The Director of BSI Product Certification reserves the right to withdraw or amend this PAS on advice from the BSI Product Certification Advisory Council. 22、ion Helmets Section 1: SCOPE This n.oduct Approvai Specincation (PAS) specifies the requirements for all-inane integrated safety belmets with eye protection, hearing proteciion and buiid-in powered air filtering for respiratory protection. in preparing this specification it was mgnised tha products

23、coming within the scope are at the fortfront of design development and herefore in performing paricular evaluations in respect of eye and eat protection the exercise of some expert technical judgement is necessary until methods of tesi -developed With =gird to flammabiiity, considemtion was given to

24、 options for flammability and ifitability asks, but for the typical apjAications and uses of the hehet that were foreseen, flammability was considered more appropriate. It should be noted that helmets conforming with this specification are designed and manufactured to provide adequate protection und

25、er the environmental conditions specifed, subject to adherence to the instructions and care stated by the manufacturer. Where the conditions are exceeded andor the instructions for use and care are not followed, the efficiency of the helmet may be impaired. NOTE: The tities of the publications refer

27、ed in the manufacture of Integrated Protection Helmets should be of durable quaiity, i.e. their characteristics should not undergo significant alteration under the influence of ageing or of the circumstances of normal use, e.g. exposure to sun, rain, cold, dust, vibration, contact with the skin, eff

28、ects of sweat or of products applied to the skin or hair. For materials not in general use, advice as to suitability should be sought before use. 2.1.2 For those parts of the Integrated Protection Helmet coming into contact with the wearers skin, materials which are known to be likely to cause irrit

29、ation or any other adverse effect to health should not be used. 2.1.3 not be used. Materials shall not be cleaned with substances that are known to be harml to health shall 2.1.4 specified by the manufacturer. All materials shall be visibly unimpaired after cleaning or disinfecting by the methods 2.

30、1.5 Protection Helmet, unless manufactured from corrosive resistant materials shall show no sign of corrosion when viewed by the unaided eye of a trained observer and shall be in a serviceable condition when tested as described in appendix E. 1. Method of Test for Resistance to Corrosion of Metal Pa

31、rts where not made from Corrosion Resistant Alloy. Samples of all exposed metal parts on the internal and external surfaces of the Integrated 2.2 Construction 2.2.1 or other features likely to cause discomfort during wear. The Integrated Protection Helmet shall have no sharp edges and shall be free

32、of projections 2.2.2 during use and are intended by the manufacturer to be replaceable, shall be replaceable without the use of special tools. Parts which are not intended to last the lifetime of the helmet or which become damaged 2.2.3 hand, by any part without that part, or any other part becoming

33、 detached, no matter how temporarily or easy to reattach. An element of technical judgement maybe applied to confirm the helmet and any detachable parts are of robust construction. Helmets shall be of a sufficiently robust construction to facilitate their being picked up, by 2.3 Testing 2.3.1 they a

34、re offered for sale. The Integrated Protection Helmets shall be submitted for testing in the condition in which 2.3.2 No Integrated Protection Helmet that has been subjected to testing shall be offered for sale. 35、24bb7 078D5b4 2T4 I Product Approval Specification Integrated Protection Helmets v Section 3: HEAD PROTECTION 3.1 Definitions For the purposes of this PAS the following definitions relating to head protection apply: 3.1.1 Safety helmet Headgear intended to protect primarily the upper part of a weare

36、rs head against the blow from above. 3.1.2 Shell The hard, smooth material that provides the general outer form of the helmet. 3.1.3 Peak An extension of the shell above the eyes. 3.1.4 Brim A rim surrounding the shell, which may form a gutter. 3.1.5 Harness The complete assembly that provides a mea

37、ns (a) of maintaining the helmet in position on the head and (b) of absorbing kinetic energy during an impact. NOTE: It may consist, for example, of the items defined in 3.1.5.1 to 3.1.5.5. 3.1.5.1 Headband A part of the harness surrounding the head in the region of the base of the skull. 3.1.5.2 Cr

38、adle The fixed or adjustable assembly of the parts of the harness in contact with the head, excluding the headband and nape strap. 3.1.5.3 Anticoncussion tapes Supporting straps that absorb kinetic energy. 3.1.5.4 Comfort band or sweat band An accessory to cover the inner front surface of the headba

39、nd to improve wearer comfort. 3.1.5.5 Nape strap An adjustable strap that fits behind the head below the plane of the headband and that may be an integral part of the headband. 3.1.6 Chin strap An adjustable strap that fits under the chin to secure the helmet on the head. 41、dband to the highest point of the headform on which the helmet is mounted measured either at the front (midway between the sides of the headform) or at the side (midway between the front and back of the headform), whichever gives the greater distance. 3.1.9 Vertical distance The vertical measurement

42、 between the top of the headform on which the helmet is mounted and the highest point on the outside surface of the shell. 3.1.10 Horizontal clearance The horizontal distance between the headform on which the helmet is mounted and the inside of the shell measured at the level of the headband. 3.2 Co

43、nstruction The construction of the helmet shall be in the form of a hard shell having a smooth outer surface and fitted with a harness. The outer surface shall be smoothly finished. The shell may be shaped to form a brim and/or peak. If the shell is pierced with holes for any purpose other than for

44、the attachment of the means of energy absorption, no internal chord of any such hole shall exceed 4mm, and the total area of such holes on either side of the helmet shall not exceed 160 mm, making a total on both sides not exceeding 320 mm. Any devices fitted to the helmet shall be so designed that

45、they are unlikely to cause any injury to the wearer in the event of an accident. In particular there should not be metallic or other rigid projections on the inside of the helmet. Where stitching is used to secure the harness to the shell, it should be protected if it may be subject to abrasion or m

46、ay cause discomfort to the user during use. 3.2.1 Vertical Distance When measured under the conditions described in Appendix A. l., the vertical distance shall be not greater than 80mm. 3.2.2 Horizontal clearance When measured under the conditions described in Appendix A. l., the horizontal clearanc

47、e at the front and sides of the helmet shall be not less than 5mm. 48、bed in Appendix A. 1. and all the settings of the height and ande adjustments of the headband, the wearing height shall be not less than the following dimensions for the appropriate sizes of headform in accordance with BS 6489: 77mm for headform B, 8Omm for headform D, 83- for headform F, 88mm for h

49、eadform J, 9 1 mm for headform L, 95mm for headform N. 3.2.4 Retention system Either the helmet shell or the harness shall be fitted with a chin strap or with means of attaching one. A nape strap shall be provided and it shall be adjustable both in length and in the angle which it makes with the edge of the shell. 3.2.5 Chinstrap Any chin strap supplied with the helmet shall be not less than 1Omm wide when untensioned and shall be attached either to the shell or to the harness. 3.2.6 Chin strap anchorage Any chin strap supplied with the helmet,
