This British Standard shall be used in conjunction with the relevant sections of the latest edition of BS S 500. 1.2 Thickness. The thickness of the material shall be in accordanc
7、e with the latest edition of BS S 500. Material which has been finally hot rolled prior to softening shall satisfy the tolerances applicable to hot-rolled sheet and strip. Material which has been finally cold rolled prior to softening shall satisfy the tolerances applicable to cold-rolled sheet and
8、strip. 1.3 Sulfur printing or deep etching tests. Samples shall be selected in accordance with the latest edition of BS S 500. 2 Manufacture The material shall be manufactured by an electric process. 3 Chemical composition The steel shall contain: 4 Surface dressing The material shall be overall dre

11、ening treatment. The material shall be softened by heating at a temperature of 690 10 C for not less than 6 h, followed by cooling in air or a protective atmosphere. 6.2 Final treatment. The final heat treatment shall be as follows. a) Hardening. Heat at a temperature of 1 050 10 C, followed by cool
12、ing in air. b) Tempering. Heat at a temperature of 650 5 C for 4 h, followed by cooling in air. 7 Mechanical properties 7.1 Tensile test at room temperature. The mechanical properties obtained from test pieces shall be as follows: Note deleted 7.2 Single bend test (applicable only to sheet or strip
13、of nominal thickness less than 1.6 mm). The test piece shall be bent at room temperature without cracking through an angle of 180 over a former with a radius equal to twice the nominal thickness of the sheet or strip. 7.3 Hardness test 7.3.1 The hardness of material heat treated in accordance with 6
14、.1 shall be not greater than 325 HV. 7.3.2 The hardness of parts and test samples heat treated in accordance with 6.2 shall be not less than 320 HV nor greater than 380 HV.
