31、part epoxy system shallmeet material requirements of ASTM C881. Curingtemperature requirements (class) and viscosity (grade) shallbe determined by the Contractor based on the manufacturersrecommendations and approved by the Architect/Engineerafter project conditions have been established.2.2.2 Skid-
32、resistant aggregate2.2.2.1 Aggregate shall meet the gradation given inTable 2.1 in accordance with ASTM C136, unless otherwisespecified. Aggregate shall have a hardness of 6 or greater onthe Mohs hardness scale.2.2.2.2 Total evaporable moisture content of aggregateshall be determined in accordance w
33、ith ASTM C566. 34、hich epoxies are to be appliedshall be newly prepared substrate free of loose and unsoundmaterials and contamination that affect cure or adhesion ofepoxy. Prepare surfaces by mechanical abrasion.3.1.2 Mechanical abrasionUse abrasive blasting, shot-blasting, or other approved means.3.2Evaluate surfac
35、e before coating application3.2.1 Evaluate all prepared concrete surfaces before applica-tion of coating to ensure that requirements of Article 3.2 are met.3.2.2 Tensile strength of concrete surface shall have anaverage minimum pulloff strength of 250 psi in accordancewith ASTM C1583.3.2.2.1 Apply t
36、est patches of the skid-resistant coating toprepared concrete surfaces at the rate of one per span or4305 ft2, whichever is smaller. An evaluation shall be theaverage of three individual tests at each test patch location.3.2.2.2 The tensile adhesion evaluation shall not beperformed at surface temper
37、atures above 80F.3.2.2.3 Tests should be repeated when results are not afailure of concrete in 50% or more of the test area. Repeatedfailures in adhesion, or cohesion in adhesive, indicateimproper cleaning of concrete, incorrect adhesive, or faultyadhesive application techniques.3.2.2.4 If test stre
38、ngth is less than 250 psi after severaltests, the following options are recommended, unless other-wise specified:Additional surface preparation.Do not place overlay.Replace concrete.Use an alternative system.3.2.3 The surface shall be free of any deleterious materialssuch as laitance, curing compoun
39、ds, dust, dirt, and oil, andmaterials resulting from surface preparation, as specified inArticle 3.1, shall be removed.3.2.4 All concrete surfaces shall be dry as defined inParagraph 3.2.5 unless a water-insensitive coating is used.Surface temperature shall be at least 55F to permit wettingof the co
40、ncrete surface by epoxy coating, unless otherwisespecified or recommended by manufacturer.3.2.5 Evaluate moisture content for concrete by deter-mining if moisture will collect at bond lines betweenconcrete and epoxy coating before epoxy has cured. Thismay be accomplished by taping a 4 x 4 ft polyeth
41、ylene sheetto concrete surface in accordance with ASTM D4263. If mois-ture collects on underside of polyethylene sheet earlier thanthe time required for curing of epoxy according to the ContractDocuments, then allow concrete to dry sufficiently to preventthe possibility of moisture between the concr
42、ete and epoxy.3.3Coating mixtures3.3.1 Condition the epoxy components to be at a temperaturebetween 60 to 100F, unless otherwise recommended by themanufacturer.3.3.2 Mix epoxy components in a clear container free ofharmful contamination or foreign particles.3.3.3 Thoroughly blend epoxy components wi
43、th amechanical mixer to a uniform and homogeneous mixture.Mix small batches (up to 1 qt) by use of spatulas, paletteknives, or similar devices. The proportioning and mixingratio of epoxy shall be as specified by the manufacturer andshall not be modified.3.4Coating application3.4.1 Apply epoxy coatin
44、g to the concrete surface byroller, squeegee, or spray equipment. Apply epoxy coating tothe entire surface at a minimum uniform coverage rate of0.04 gal./ft2, unless otherwise specified.3.4.2 Apply skid-resistant aggregate while the coating isstill fluid at the minimum rate of 1.33 lb/ft2, unless ot
45、herwisespecified.3.4.3 Protect joints from exposure to the coating materials.3.5Field quality control3.5.1 Pulloff strength of cured skid-resistant surface toconcrete shall meet requirements of Paragraph 3.2.2. Thefailure shall be cohesive within concrete. There shall be nofailures in adhesion.3.5.2
46、 If test results do not meet the required average 250 psipulloff strength, check surface preparation procedures andrepeat tests. If test results still do not meet the requiredaverage 250 psi pulloff strength, check manufacturersbatching, mixing, placing, and curing requirements andrepeat test until
47、required pulloff strength is achieved, unlessotherwise permitted.3.6Cleanup3.6.1 Protect concrete surfaces against spillage beyond thelimits of surface receiving coating.3.6.2 Immediately remove any epoxy resin applied orspilled beyond desired areas. Perform cleanup with materialdesignated by epoxy
