The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. 1.3. This standard does not purport t

It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 2. 5、and Bituminous Materials by Distillation 3. SIGNIFICANCE 3.1. This method of test is used to determine the amount of mineral material (ash content) in an asphalt sample by means of ignition. According to R 59, ash content testing is required for recovered asphalt residue. 3.2. Testing for solubility

6、 of asphalt (T 44) may be used for the determination of mineral matter provided all the insoluble material has been transferred to the Gooch crucible used in T 44. 4. APPARATUS 4.1. The apparatus required shall consist of the following: 4.1.1. Cruciblewith cover and a capacity of 50 to 100 mLeither

7、platinum, porcelain, or fused silica. 4.1.2. Gas Burner. 4.1.3. Analytical Balanceconforming to M 231, Class B. 2015 by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.All rights reserved. 8、ground glass cover. 4.1.5. Muffle Furnacecapable of igniting the residue to a dull red heat 500 to 600C (930 to 1110F). 4.1.6. Ovencapable of maintaining a temperature of 100 10C (212 18F). 5. PREPARATION OF SAMPLE 5.1. If the sample contains more than 2.0 percent water, it shall be dehydrated by di

9、stillation in accordance with ASTM D95, before testing. If the material is hard and brittle, it may be ground and dried at a temperature below the volatilization temperature of the asphalt. 6. PROCEDURE 6.1. Determine the mass of a sample of the material (2 to 5 g) to the nearest 0.001 g in a tared

10、crucible. Heat the sample slowly to drive off the combustible material without spattering until the asphalt is ignited. Then continue heating only enough to maintain combustion. When all readily volatile material is burned, ignite all free carbon in a muffle furnace until all carbonaceous matter has

11、 disappeared. 6.2. Cool the residue in the desiccator, and determine the mass to the nearest 0.001 g. Repeat heating in the muffle furnace until a constant mass of the residue is obtained. 6.3. When carbonate materials are present, moisten the ash with a few drops of ammonium carbonate solution. Dry

12、 the sample in an oven at 100 10C (212 18F). After the sample is dry, place it in the muffle furnace, and heat to a dull red for a few minutes. Cool the residue in the desiccator, and determine the mass to the nearest 0.001 g. 7. CALCULATIONS 7.1. The mass of mineral matter (ash) divided by the mass

13、 of the original sample and multiplied by 100 gives the percentage of mineral matter (ash content). 8. REPORT 8.1. This report shall include the following: 8.1.1. Identification of sample. 8.1.2. The percentage of mineral matter (ash content) to the nearest 0.1 percent. 9. PRECISION AND BIAS 9.1. Pr
