AECMA CTI/BO/L0834 80 m LOL23LL 00004LB 2 m CONCLUDING REPORT ON THE AECMA/CTI STUDY OF LIGHT ALLOY PLATE PROVISIONTNG REQUIREMENTS FOR THE EUROPEAN AEROSPACE INDUSTRY DURING THE PERIOD 1979-1985 The Study was initiate

7、d in March 1979 following a presentation to the AECVA C.T.I. Committee by the SBAC member, at which it was explained that the SBAC consi ered there was a potential shortfall in the available supply of Light Alloy Plate material to aerospace specifications. At.the time, the investment plans of the Eu

8、ropean plate producers were at a formative stage and the capacity increases under consideration were thought to be insufficient to meet the European aerospace industrys future needs. The C.T.I. Committee agreed the necessity for an objective Study to be carried out, and charged each member organizat

9、ion to provide British Aerospace, acting as Co-ordinator, with a statement of future requirements based upon current trading forecasts. The criteria upon which the Studywas launched are : 1. Annual requirement expressed in thousands of tonnes per annum for the period 1980 through 1985. 2. The Airbus

10、 element of the statement of requirements to be based on a build programmeleading up to a maximum production rate of 88 sets per annum, 3. A minimum thickness for light alloy plate of 6,s mm. 4. The European build of the General Dynamics F-16 to be excluded because it is understood that separate arr

11、angements were made in the contract with General Dynamics for the supply of F-16 Light Alloy Plate requirements direct from USA. 5. BRITISH AEROSPACE, acting as Co-ordinator, would : (1) - Obtain from suppliers their projections on future available supplies (2) - Incorporate Airbus projections of 11

12、0 sets and 132 sets-per annum ; (3) - Incorporate a national provisioning allowance for a possible new Multi- National Civil aircraft in Europe with an assumed material requirement commencing 1984, to the European aerospace industry ; During the ensuing twelve months C.T.I. members obtained through

13、their respective National Associations, the necessary information for a draft report to be issued in March 1980 which indicated that during the years 1980-81 a potential shortfall in available supply is likely but thereafter producer investments in new capacity should meet the forecast requirement p

14、rojections, provided that the Airbus production rate does not substantially exceed 8 sets per month. This concluding report, based upon the latest information available, demonstrates that the Committees objectives have been.achieved, The analysis shows that whilst a marginal supply situation will pr

15、evail in 1980-81, adequate supplies should be available to support all European projects including Airbus at the 110 set/annum rate thereafter. R.W.
