Such products shall meet therequirements as outlined in this standard.While this standard covers the performance require-ments of plastic bathtub or shower units and describes theseperformance requirements in terms of methods of
17、 testapplicable to all such units, a number of different materialsand methods of manufacture shall be permitted to be used tomeet these requirements. Each of these materials and meth-ods have different properties which will affect its end per-formance and suitability for the intended use. For this r
18、ea-son, portions of the standard are broken into separaterequirements designed to identify these individual charac-teristics.The materials and equipment which are listed as havingbeen used to conduct the testing procedures in this standardare provided solely for informational reference. Materialsand
19、 equipment of similar design, composition and specifica-tion shall only be used to conduct these testing procedureswhen they produce equivalent results.1.2 Purpose. The purpose of this standard is to establishminimum performance requirements for plastic bathtub orshower units.Conformance to this sta

General requirements2.1 Materials 2.1.1 Composition
25、. The units shall be made of suit-able grades of plastic resins and such other filling, coloring,reinforcing, and coating materials as will meet the perfor-mance requirements of this standard.2.1.2 Finish. The finished surface of the unit shall beof a quality which meets all of the applicable requir
26、ementsof the standard. Six common types of plastic finishes shallbe as defined. (1) Type 1 - No separate surface finish: The surfacefinish is the same as, and is usually integral with, the struc-tural base. (Excluding Type 4.)(2) Type 2 - Coated surface finish: These units arecharacterized by the pr

28、3 - Shell-coated surface finish: These unitsare characterized by the presence of a thermoplastic sheetmaterial which is thermoformed and to the back of which astructural base is applied.(4) Type 4 - Cast Filled Polymers: These units arecharacterized by their composition and manufacturingprocess; whe
29、reby polymers are filled with particulates, act-ing as both structural and decorative elements, and are castinto a complete bathtub with or without a pre-coated finish. (5) Type 5 - Laminated Finish: A thermoplastic sur-face co-extruded, adhesive bonded, or otherwise adhered toa thermoplastic substr
30、ate. If a structural base is subsequent-ly applied, it shall be treated as a Type 3 unit. (6) Type 6 - Flexible Core Constructi on: A combina-tion of materials comprising a flexible core, faced on bothsides with other materials.2.1.3 Supporting structure. The material of the support-ing structure in
31、tegral with the unit and its attachment shallbe adequate to meet the performance requirements of thisstandard.2.2 Dimensional tolerances. The finished trim dimension-al tolerances for units shall be the manufacturers stated“rough-in”dimensions.2.3 Units for testing. Units to be inspected and testeds
32、hall be taken from finished-goods inventory. 2.4 Installation instructions. Each unit shall be suppliedwith a copy of the manufacturers written installationinstructions, unless intended to be installed by the manufac-turer.2.5 Care and maintenance instructions. Each unit shallbe supplied with a copy
33、 of the manufacturers written careand maintenance instructions affixed to the unit in a con-spicuous location and shall state, “To be removed for useby the occupant.”2.6 Identification. Manufacturers name or trademark, orboth, shall be permanently and legibly marked on the unitso as to be visible af
34、ter installation. 2.6.1 Field installed flange kits shall be marked on thepackage or the product with at least the following: (a) man-ufacturers name or trademark, (b) kit model number, (c)model number of the fixture(s).2.7 Grab bars. Where integral grab bars are provided aspart of the finished unit
35、, the grab bars shall meet therequirements of Section 7, Test Methods of ASTM F 446.2.8 Raised flanges and tiling beads. 2.8.1 Bathtubs intended for installation against a verti-cal surface (wall) shall incorporate a raised flange or beadnot less than 7.9 mm (5/16 in.) above the rim at any point.The
36、 bottom of any hole in the flange shall not be less than7.9 mm (5/16 in.) above the flood level surface of the tub.The raised flange or bead shall be: (a) integral with thebathtub; (b) added to the island tub in the factory; or (c)field installed using an optional installation kit.2.8.2 Shower bases
37、 intended for installation against avertical surface (wall) shall incorporate a raised flange notless than 25.4 mm (1 in.) above the rim at any point. Theraised flange shall be: (a) integral with the shower base; (b)added to the shower base in the factory; or (c) field installedusing an optional ins
38、tallation kit.Each kit shall include installation instructions. Necessaryparts and fasteners shall be provided or specified by themanufacturer. The effectiveness of the moisture sealbetween the field installed flange and the fixture shall betested in accordance with Section 6.2.2.9 Commonly used nom
39、enclature are shown in Figures9(a) through 9(c).3. Workmanship and finish3.1 Unit preparation.1The unit shall be washed with astandard liquid detergent2and water solution, rinsed withclear water, and dried3prior to the application of ink andstandard dirt as specified in 3.3.1 and 3.4.1. 3.2 Method o
40、f inspection of unit surface. The surface ofthe unit shall be inspected visually for defects and blemish-es from a distance of between 305 and 610 mm (1 and 2 ft.)after being inked or soiled in accordance with the ink test(see 3.3.1) and the standard dirt test (see 3.4.1). The lightsource shall be e
41、quivalent to an illumination intensity nearthe surface to be inspected of 1615 540 lx (150 50 foot-candles).3.3 Surface test3.3.1 Test method. Rub the entire finished surface ofthe unit with a sponge and a 50% solution of tap water andwater soluble black or blue-black ink after the unit has beenwash

43、rface which shall then be driedbefore inspection.3.3.2 Performance requirements. The unit shall befree from cracks, chipped areas and blisters. The numberand size of molding and other defects or blemishes shall notexceed those given in Table 1. Such defects shall be deter-mined by inspection as spec
44、ified in 3.2 after surface condi-tioning and application of ink as specified in 3.3.1.3.4 Subsurface test3.4.1 Any finish surfaces suspected of having subsur-face porosity shall be subjected to the standard dirt test asoutlined in 3.4.2.3.4.2 Test method. A maximum of two areas of theunit, identifie
45、d as being suspect, shall be conditioned byrubbing these areas for at least 25 cycles with 600-grit wetsilicon carbide abrasive paper.4Each test area shall beapproximately 0.01 m2(16 sq. in.). Following the abrasion,these areas shall be rinsed with tap water, dried, and soiledby application of stand
46、ard dirt.5Apply about 5 grams ofstandard dirt to each area and rub dirt with dampenedchamois and heavy thumb pressure in circular motion forabout 25 cycles. After the dirt is allowed to dry for at least1 hour, the areas shall then be washed by rubbing with a 1All reagents and chemicals in this speci

You should be aware of these toxic effects and take precau-tions (e.g., gloves, ventilation, respirator) to avoid harmful exposure. TheMaterial Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
48、for these chemicals and reagents will bereviewed and precautions will be taken as required.2Standard liquid detergent consists of, by volume: 8.0% tetrapotassiumpyrophosphate (Monsanto TKPP was used); 7.0% ethoxylated-alkyl-phenol(Monsanto Sterox NJ or Rohm 8.0% sodium-xylenesulfonate (Stepan Chem.
49、Co., Stepan SXS was used); 1.5% butyl cello-solve (2-butoxy ethanol); 75.5% water.3To hasten drying, surfaces may be wiped with a clean chamois leather or aclean, absorbent, lint-free material (for this test only).4“A“ weight wet or dry 600-grit silicon carbide abrasive paper manufacturedby 3M was used in preparing this test method.5Standard dirt consists of 20 parts carbon black (pigment grade), 20 parts ironblack (iron oxide, black), 10 parts calcium stearate, 5 parts 30W motor oil, 1part wetting agent (Triton X-100, Rohm and Haas, or the equivalent), and 44parts tap water.
