13、he American Society of Safety engineers (ASSe) as secretariat.it is intended that every employer whose operations fall within the scope and purpose of the standard will adopt the guidelines and requirements detailed in this standard.the need for this standards activity grew out of the continuing dev

14、elopment of a series of fall protection-relat-ed standards. the focus is to tie the elements of those standards together and provide the tools with which employers may develop the programs that incorporate those elements. this standard also brings together the administrative requirements of those fa

15、ll protection standards. it should be noted, as in all Z359-series standards, that this standard applies to occupational activities. it does not apply to sports activities such as mountaineering.neither the standards committee, nor the secretariat, states that this standard is perfect or in its ulti

16、mate form. it is recognized that new developments are to be expected, and that revisions of the standard will be necessary as the state-of-the-art progresses and further experience is gained. it is felt, however, that uniform guidelines for fall protection programs are very much needed and that the

17、standard in its present form provides for the minimum criteria necessary to develop and implement a comprehensive managed fall protection program.the Z359 Committee acknowledges the critical role of design in influencing the use of proper fall protection equipment. Designs which eliminate fall hazar

18、ds through the proper application of the hierarchy of safety controls are the preferred method for fall protection. Design deficiencies often increase the risk for employ-ees who may be exposed to fall hazards: examples are (1) lack of rail systems to prevent falls from machines, equipment and struc

19、tures; (2) failure to provide engineered anchorages where use of personal fall arrest systems are anticipated; (3) no provision for safe access to elevated work areas; (4) installation of machines or equipment at heights, rather than floor/ground level to preclude access to elevated areas; (5) failu

20、re to plan for the use of travel restriction or work positioning devices. to that end, this series of standards also provides guidance for design considerations for new buildings and facilities.Basic fall safety principles have been incorporated into these standards, including hazard survey, hazard

21、elimination and control, and education and training. the primary intent is to ensure a proactive approach to fall protection. However, the reactive process of accident investigation is also addressed to ensure that adequate attention is given to causation of falls.the Z359 committee solicits public

22、input that may suggest the need for revisions to this standard. 28、evice shall pay out and retract the line in accordance with 3.1.6 after each dynamic per-formance test (with the exception of SrL-Le de-vices following the edge test of 4.2.2). the visual indicator shall activate when dynamic performance is tested, and provide clear evi-dence that the device has bee

29、n impact loaded. Additionally, the following dynamic performance requirements shall be met after conditioning in ac-cordance with the procedures given in 4.2.8. the arresting force shall not exceed an average of 1,575 pounds (7kn) or a maximum of 1,800 pounds (8kn) for class A devices and an av-E3.1

31、N) for Class B devices. one test is required for each conditioning proce-dure. A new device may be used for each condi-tioning procedure. for SrL-Les, following the dynamic performance test and when tested over the edge in accordance with 4.2.2, the lanyard shall retain a minimum stat-ic strength of

32、 675 pounds (3kn) for wire ropes or 1,000 pounds (4.5kn) for synthetic materials. Alternatively, when tested as an independent ele-ment in accordance with 4.2.2, the line constitu-ent shall retain a static strength of 1,000 (4.5kn).note: Some SrDs are designed to attach the hous-ing end of the devic

33、e to the body support, rather than the lanyard end. for these devices, each con-nection orientation allowed by the manufacturer shall be tested.3.2 Specific Requirements for Self-Retracting Lanyards with Integral Rescue Capability.3.2.1 Operation. it shall be possible to engage the SrL-r into its re

34、scue mode of operation at any time, subject to manufacturers instructions. it shall not be possible to inadvertently change to or from rescue mode. the SrL-r shall be capable of rais-ing or lowering the load to affect rescue. the mini-mum mechanical advantage offered by the SrL-r in rescue mode shal

35、l be 3:1, neglecting frictional losses. When in rescue mode, the SrL-r device shall automatically stop and hold the load if the rescuer intentionally or unintentionally relinquishes control. the SrL-r shall have a means to stabilize the device during use in rescue mode.3.2.2 Powered Operation. SrL-r

36、 devices that in-corporate a powered operation feature shall meet the requirements of Section 3.2 and when tested in accordance with 4.3.2 shall not be capable of lifting a weight equal to or greater than 250% of maxi-mum capacity. the manufacturer shall indicate by markings the maximum powered inpu

37、t speed (rpm) allowed such that the lifting or lowering speed does not exceed 2 ft/s (.6m/s). A manual back-up means of operation shall be provided.E3.2.1 Consult with the manufacturer for proper methods of stabilization (i.e. mounting brackets, stabilization handles, etc.).13ANSI/ASSE Z359.14-2014

When tested in accordance with 4.3.3, the SrL-r shall support for a period of at least one

39、 minute without failure, a load equal to 3,000 pounds (13.3kn).3.2.4 Rescue, Post Fall Arrest. When tested in accordance with 4.3.4, the SrL-r in rescue mode shall raise, lower and hold the load as intended af-ter the device has arrested the test weight. When operating control is released, the load

40、shall stop within 4 inches (102mm) of travel. Additionally, the requirements of this section shall be met after con-ditioning in accordance with the procedures given in 4.2.8. one test is required for each condition-ing procedure. A new SrL-r may be used for each conditioning.3.2.5 Function. testing

41、 in this section shall be per-formed following the salt spray exposure specified in Section 3.1.5. When tested in accordance with 4.3.1, the SrL-r in rescue mode shall raise, lower and hold the load as intended while the device is carrying 125% of the maximum capacity. When operating control is rele

42、ased, the load shall stop within 4 inches (102mm) of travel. immediately fol-lowing the test with the load of 125% of maximum capacity, this test is to be repeated using the same test specimen with a load of 75% of the minimum capacity.3.3 Line Constituent of Self-Retracting Devices.3.3.1 Synthetic

43、Rope. rope used as a line con-stituent of the self-retracting device shall be made of pure or non-recycled synthetic materials having strength, aging, abrasion resistance and heat re-sistance characteristics equivalent or superior to polyamides. other synthetic materials than those stated herein are

44、 permitted for the line constituent of SrDs only when it can be demonstrated that all requirements of this standard are met and, addi-tionally, that the durability, reliability and other prop-erties pertinent to the intended uses have been evaluated and determined suitable. Any restrictions on the u

45、se of such SrDs shall be marked on the SrD. When statically tested in accordance with references in Sections 7.1, 7.2 or 7.3 as appropri-ate, synthetic rope shall have a minimum breaking strength of 4,500 pounds (20kn).E3.3.1 It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to determine if materials use

46、d are suitable for the in-tended use. Webbing used as a line constitu-ent of the self-retracting device shall be made of pure or non-recycled synthetic materials having strength, aging, abrasion resistance and heat re-sistanc

48、e characteristics equivalent or superior to polyamides. other synthetic materials than those stated herein are permitted for the line constituent of SrDs only when it can be demonstrated that all requirements of this standard are met and, addi-tionally, that the durability, reliability and other pro

49、p-erties pertinent to the intended uses have been evaluated and determined suitable. Any restric-tions on the use of such SrDs shall be marked on the SrD. Webbing shall have a minimum breaking strength of 4,500 pounds (20kn) when tested in ac-cordance with references in Sections 7.1, 7.2 or 7.3 as appropriate.3.3.3 Wire Rope. Wire rope used as a line constitu-ent of a self-retracting device shall be constructed of stainless steel or galvanized steel strand hav-ing a minimum breaking strength of 3,400 pounds (15kn) when tested in accordance with the refer-en
