5、on.General Informationii Spill Resistant Vacuum Breaker Assemblies ASSE Standard #1056 - 2013This foreword shall not be considered a part of the standard; however, it is offered to provide background information.ASSE International is dedicated to the preservation of public health and safety through

6、its guiding principle, “Prevention Rather Than Cure.”The ASSE International Standards Program systematically evaluates new technologies through formal requests and addresses the development and promulgation of performance standards designed to safeguard public health and safety.ASSE International ha

7、s long recognized the need for backflow protection against the condition known as “backsiphonage.” ASSE Standard #1001 was developed for plumbing applications that are not under continuous pressure, but it was evident that systems under continuous pressure could effectively use a similar method of b

8、reaking a vacuum to prevent siphonage. This led to the development of ASSE Standard #1020.It has been recognized that ASSE Standard #1020 was developed in anticipation of outdoor applications. As a result of the specific requirements of the hydraulic operation of the air inlet vent in ASSE 1020, wat

9、er may discharge in its normal operation.The development of ASSE Standard #1056 specifically addressed the indoor applications offering the same vacuum breaker capabilities of ASSE 1020, but solving the problem of water discharging each time the assembly was pressurized. As with the ASSE 1020 assemb

10、lies, a check valve backed up with an air inlet vent that opens in response to a loss of supply pressure accomplishes backflow protection against backsiphonage.ASSE Standard #1056 assemblies, when installed properly, are suitable for high hazard protection, but just as ASSE 1001 and ASSE 1020, are l

11、imited to backsiphonage protection and are not to be used to protect against backpressure-type backflow.Performance standards for systems and assemblies must be reviewed periodically and upgraded as research, field conditions and experience suggest. The policy of ASSE International is to review each

12、 standard on a five-year cycle for revisions or reaffirmation. Between such reviews, the Product Standards Committee works with interested groups to obtain information for study and evaluation of product performance requirements.Although many of the material specifications are detailed within Sectio

13、n IV of this standard, it is the responsibility of the manufacturer to comply with the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act, United States Public Law 93-523.The working group that developed this standard revision was set up within the framework of the Product Standards Committee of ASSE Inter

In the absence of a critical level (CL) mark on an assembly, the extreme bottom of the body casting shall be considered the critical level of the assembly for testing and installation purposes.1.2 Scope1.2.1 DescriptionThis standard applies only to those assemblies clas

19、sified as spill resistant vacuum breaker assemblies (SVB). These assemblies are designed for installation in water systems that are normally under continuous pressure conditions.The assembly includes one (1) check valve force-loaded closed, an air inlet valve force-loaded open to atmosphere, positio

20、ned downstream of the check valve, two (2) tightly closing shut-off valves and two (2) test cocks or a #1 test cock and a bleed valve.1.2.2 Size RangeThe inlet and outlet nominal pipe sizes are NPS (8 DN), NPS (10 DN), NPS (15 DN), NPS (20 DN), 1 NPS (25 DN), 1 NPS (32 DN), 1 NPS (40 DN) and 2 NPS (

21、50 DN).1.2.3 Pressure These assemblies shall be designed for a working pressure of at least 150.0 psi (1034.2 kPa).1.2.4 Temperature RangeThese assemblies shall be designed for a temperature range of 33.0 F to 140.0 F (0.6 C to 60.0 C) or the manufacturers maximum rated temperature, whichever is gre

22、ater.2 Spill Resistant Vacuum Breaker Assemblies ASSE Standard #1056 - 20131.3 Limitations on Design1.3.1 Flow CapacityThe assembly shall meet, as a minimum, the flow rates specified in Table 3 without exceeding the maximum allowable pressure drop.1.3.2 Structural StrengthAll parts of the assembly s

23、hall be designed to withstand, without permanent distortion, the stresses developed by the specified hydrostatic test with operations under a specified unbalanced pressure condition.1.3.3 Mechanical Function1.3.3.1 Female Pipe Threaded ConnectionsFemale pipe threaded connections shall be tapped into

24、 bosses in the body and shall be so constructed that it is not possible to thread a pipe far enough to restrict the flow through the assembly or interfere with working parts.1.3.3.2 Repairability(a) The internal parts of the assembly shall be accessible for inspection, repairs or replacements. The d

25、esign shall permit servicing without removing the assembly from the line using the shut-off valves to isolate the assembly.(b) All replacement parts of the assemblies of the same size and model shall be interchangeable with the original parts.(c) Seats shall be replaceable.1.3.4 Check ValveThe check

26、 valve shall be force loaded (biased) to a normally closed position under static conditions.1.3.5 Air Inlet Valve1.3.5.1 The air inlet valve shall be force loaded (biased) to a normally open position when the supply pressure is atmospheric. It shall be located above the outlet of the assembly so tha

27、t when the downstream line drains, all water above the bottom of the outlet pipes, up to the air vent, will drain by gravity.1.3.5.2 The air inlet valve shall begin to open when the inlet pressure drops to a value of 1.0 psi (6.9 kPa) or greater, and the air inlet shall be fully open when the inlet

28、pressure is at atmospheric.1.3.5.3 There shall be no water leakage from the vent when the assembly is pressurized from atmospheric up to its maximum rated working pressure.1.3.5.4 The air inlet shall have air flow passages sufficient to satisfy the vacuum breaking requirements of the standard.1.3.6

29、Air Flow PassagesThe air vent inlet entrance shall be protected against the accumulation of debris, which reduces the area of flow passages and adversely affects the performance of the assembly. Where a protective canopy is provided, its lowest edge shall be on a plane, level with or below the air e

30、ntrance ports.Spill Resistant Vacuum Breaker Assemblies 3ASSE Standard #1056 - 20131.3.7 Test Cocks/Bleed ValveTest cocks shall be resilient seated and, as part of the assembly, shall meet all material specifications and hydrostatic requirements of this standard. Test cock tappings shall be provided

31、 as follows:1.3.7.1 Assemblies shall have a test cock located between the upstream shut-off valve and the check valve, and a test cock or bleed valve between the check valve and the downstream shut-off valve.1.3.7.2 For assemblies up to, and including, 1 inch (25 mm) pipe size, a minimum inlet test

32、cock thread shall be Male NPT and outlet thread Female NPT or Male SAE J513. For assemblies 1 inch 2 inch (32 mm 50 mm), a minimum inlet test cock shall be Male NPT and outlet thread Female NPT or Male SAE J513.1.3.7.3 Test cock waterways shall be full port. Protective caps shall be provided on SAE

33、test cocks to protect male outlet threads.1.3.8 Shut-Off Valves a) Shut-off valves shall be resilient seated. b) The #1 shut-off valve shall be located at the inlet side of the assembly. c) The #2 shut-off valve shall be located at the outlet side of the assembly.1.4 Reference Standards ASME B1.20.1

Tests shall be performed in the order listed on one (1) assembly of each size submitted.2.2 Samples TestedThe testing agency shall select one (1) of each model and size for the full test.2.3 DrawingsAssembly drawings and other data that is needed to ena

38、ble a testing agency to determine compliance with this standard, together with installation drawings, shall accompany assemblies when submitted for examination and performance tests under this standard.2.4 RejectionFailure of one (1) assembly shall be cause for rejection of that model and size.Spill

39、 Resistant Vacuum Breaker Assemblies 5ASSE Standard #1056 - 2013Section III3.0 Performance Requirements and Compliance Testing3.1 Hydrostatic Test of Complete Assembly3.1.1 PurposeThe purpose of this test is to determine if the assembly withstands pressures of two (2) times the manufacturers maximum

40、 rated pressure without leakage or damage to the assembly.3.1.2 ProcedureSee Figures 1 or 1A. Close shut-off valve #1 and shut-off valve #2. Supply water to test cock #1. Purge the system of air and pressurize to two (2) times the manufacturers rated pressure. Maintain the pressure for five (5) minu

41、tes.3.1.3 CriteriaAny external leakage shall result in a rejection of the assembly.3.2 Hydrostatic Test of Check Valve3.2.1 PurposeThe purpose of this test is to determine if the check withstands pressures of two (2) times the manufacturers maximum rated pressure without leakage or damage to the ass

42、embly with atmospheric pressure on the upstream side.3.2.2 ProcedureSee Figure 1 or 1A. Supply water to shut-off valve #2. Purge the system of air. Install a sight glass (Figure 2), with a drain cock on test cock #1. Close shut-off valve #1. Open the drain cock under the sight glass and lower the wa

43、ter level in the sight glass to a height corresponding to the top of the assembly. Slowly raise the pressure on the downstream side of the check valve through shut-off valve #2 to two (2) times the manufacturers maximum rated pressure. Maintain this pressure for five (5) minutes. The water level in

46、 verify that when exposed to water at extremes of the manufacturers temperature, at its maximum rated pressure, the assembly continues to meet the performance requirements of this standard.3.3.2 Procedure3.3.2.1 Install the assembly as shown in Figure 3. Assemblies shall be tested at 40.0 F (4.4 C)

47、and at the manufacturers maximum rated temperature.3.3.2.2 Water at the manufacturers maximum rated temperature and maximum rated pressure shall be circulated through the assembly at a flow rate per Table 1 for eighty (80) hours. At the option of the testing laboratory, the test shall be permitted t

48、o be run continuously for eighty (80) hours. 3.3.2.3 Upon completion of the eighty (80) hours, ambient water shall be circulated through the assembly for at least fifteen (15) minutes.3.3.2.4 Cold Water TestWater at or below 40.0 F (4.4 C) shall be circulated through the assembly at maximum rated pr
