10、d: 2015 FOREWORD This foreword shall not be considered a part of the standard. However, it is offered to provide background information. ASSE International acknowledges the work of the ASME A112.20.2 Committee in first developing a qualification standard for installers of firestop systems and device

11、s for piping systems; ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 9000 is based on this ASME standard, which was transferred to ASSE. ASSE International developed the voluntary consensus ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 9000, Professional Qualifications Standard for Firestop Systems and Smoke-Limiting Materials for Piping Systems

12、, which contains the uniform minimum requirements for qualified installers and inspectors of firestop systems. This was accomplished in the spirit of ASSEs century-old motto, “Prevention Rather than Cure.” Correctly installed firestop systems are critical to life safety in the built environment; the

13、refore, it is important that individuals who install and inspect firestop systems are qualified and certified. The Series 9000 was developed by a cross- section of industry experts and offers uniform requirements that can be used throughout the construction industry to protect health and safety. Thi

14、s standard will be revised as relevant codes, standards, technologies and safety needs demand. The ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 9000 is now a part of the ASSE Professional Qualifications Standards Program, which includes the ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 5000, Cross-Connection Control Professional Qualifications

15、 Standard, the ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 6000, Professional Qualifications Standards for Medical Gas Systems Personnel, and the ASSE/ IAPMO/ANSI Series 7000, Professional Qualifications Standards for Residential Potable W ater Fire Protection System Installers and Inspectors for One and Two Family Dwel

Fire-Resistance Rating A measure of time during which a material, product or assembly continues to exhibit fire resistance under specified exposure conditions. Fire Resistive Joint System Products designed and tested to prevent the spr

22、ead of fire through joints made in, or between, fire-rated assemblies. Fire Wall A fire-resistance-rated wall that restricts the spread of fire. Flashover The rapid transition to total surface involvement in a fire of combustible materials within an enclosure. Heat T ransfer The movement of heat fro

23、m one body to another by means of radiation, convection or conduction. Hourly Rating An established time frame, in minutes or hours, that a material can withstand exposure to fire test conditions. L Rating The amount of air (in cubic feet per minute) that can leak through a penetration. Membrane Pen

24、etration A firestop system that seals the provided opening to accommodate items that penetrate the membrane on just one side of a fire-resistance-rated assembly. Packing Material Fire-resistive material intended to protect sealants, hold up material and control the exact depth of material that tops

25、off a seal. Smoke Barrier A fire-rated assembly that prevents the transmission of smoke and gases through a building. Smoke Migration The movement of smoke, caused by an air pressure difference betwe

T Rating The number of hours that the temperature on the non-fire side of a penetration does not exceed 325 F (163 C) above the ambient temperature. Thermal Layering The tendency of gases to form into layers according to temperature. Through Penetrat

28、ion Any item that passes completely through a fire-rated assembly, such as pipe, conduit, cable, etc. W Rating Water-resistance rating for through-penetration fire stop systems. Wrap Strip System Flexible strips of highly intumescent firestop material used primarily for plastic and insulated pipe ap

29、plications. 10-1.4 Third-Party Certification AgenciesA recognized third-party certification agency shall, at a minimum, be able to demonstrate to interested parties the following components: 1-1.4.1 Management System a. Management system that includes management review, document controls and interna

30、l audits. 1-1.4.2 Applications and Security a. Accept applications and issue certifications in a non-discriminatory manner. b. Determine pass/fail scores through an accepted validation process, and if multiple tests are used for the same certification, the tests are consistent in the degree of diffi

31、culty. c. Examinations and related items are protected and kept in a secure environment. 1-1.4.3 Procedures and Certificates a. Appeal process. b. Recertification process. c. Suspension and/or revocation process. d. Procedure for employers and customers to verify the certified persons validity. e. D

32、emonstrate that agency procedures and policies are not in conflict with generally accepted business ethics and adhere to all applicable laws, both federal and state. f. Certification documents are issued to the applicant, which include name, ID number, expiration date and title of the standard that the certification test is based on so certified persons are assured that they were tested to a standard that is applicable to the reason for becoming certified. g. Provision for discontinued use of the certificate if the certificate is used in a misleading manner.
