37、e away from the operating environment (up to a maximum of24 hours).Conditioning of the tape stock prior to operational use shall be as follows:Storage conditioning: Not less than 24 hours;Environmental: Stabilized to within 5C (9F) of theoperational environment as specified in4.3 above but not to ex

39、or transportation refer to Annex A4.6 Safety4.6.1 SafenessThe components of the tape and cartridge assembly shall not constitute any safety or health haz-ard when used in the intended manner, or through any foreseeable misuse in an information pro-cessing system.4.6.2 FlammabilityTape or cartridge c

40、omponents that will ignite from a match flame, and when so ignited will con-tinue to burn in a still carbon dioxide atmosphere, shall not be used.4.6.3 ToxicityTape or cartridge components that may cause bodily harm by contact, inhalation, or ingestion dur-ing normal use of the cartridge shall not b

41、e used4.7 Test methodsUnless otherwise specified, all tests shall be performed in accordance with IEC publication 735,Measuring methods for video tape properties.ANSI NCITS 341-200085 Tape characteristics5.1 MaterialsThe tape shall consist of a base film of precision smooth polyester coated on the f

42、ront side with aflexible layer of cobalt doped gamma-ferric oxide magnetic particles, or equivalent, in a suitablebinder. A backcoating may be applied to the back surface.5.2 Tape width and tolerance5.2.1 RequirementThe tape width shall be 25.349 mm 0.050 mm (0.998 in 0.002 in).5.2.2 ProcedureThe ta

43、pe, covered with a glass plate, shall be measured without tension at a minimum of five (5)equally spaced positions over any random 30 cm (11.8 in) length of the tape using a calibratedmicroscope or profile projector having an accuracy of at least 2.5 m (98.4 in). Tape width isdefined as the average

44、of the five (5) readings.5.3 Delta width5.3.1 RequirementDelta width (width fluctuation) shall be less than 0.100 mm (0.0039 in).5.3.2 ProcedureMeasurement of delta width (width fluctuation) shall be measured over 30 cm (11.8 in) and willbe determined by the difference in the maximum width found min

45、us the minimum width found.5.4 Tape thicknessThe tape thickness shall be between 18.5 m (0.728 x 10-3in) and 22.5 m (0.886 x 10-3in).5.4.1 Base film thicknessThe polyester base film thickness shall be between 13.75 m (0.541 x 10-3in) and 16.75 m(0.659 x 10-3in).5.4.2 Oxide coating thicknessThe oxide

46、 coating thickness shall be between 4.25 m (0.167 x 10-3in) and 5.5 m (0.216 x 10-3in).5.4.3 Back coating thicknessThe back coating thickness shall be between 0.5 m (0.019 x 10-3in) and 1.1 m (0.043 x 10-3in).ANSI NCITS 341-200095.5 Longitudinal curvature.5.5.1 RequirementThe tape longitudinal curva

47、ture shall not exceed 100 m (0.0039 in) peak-to-valley.5.5.2 ProcedureThe tape shall be measured with a uniform tensile force of 2.1 N (7.5 ozf) over a length of 30 cm(11.8 in) using a calibrated microscope or profile projector having an accuracy of at least 2.5 m(98.4 in).5.6 DiscontinuityThere sha

48、ll be no discontinuities in the magnetic tape such as those produced by tape splicing orperforation.5.7 Leaders and trailersThe cartridge shall not include leader and trailer tape.5.8 Coating adhesionCoating adhesion is the force required to separate any part of the coating from the tape base filmma

49、terial.5.8.1 Requirement(a) The force required to separate any part of the magnetic coating from the tape base filmmaterial shall not be less than 1.0 N (3.5 ozf).(b) The force required to separate any part of the back coating from the tape base film materialshall not be less than 1.0 N (3.5 ozf).5.8.2 ProcedureThe coating adhesion of the magnetic coating and back coating surfaces shall be measured as fol-lows.(a) Take a sample of the tape approximately 381 mm (15 in) long and scribe a line through thecoating across the width of the tape, 127 mm
