18、al, governmental and other applicationshas made possible the interchange of information in an effective machine-processable form. As this type of automatedinterchange increases, the need for International Standards covering data also increases. ISO/IEC 6523 defining a structure fora globally unique

19、and unambiguous identification of organizations and organization parts is one of a number of InternationalStandards that have been developed as a means for improving the accuracy and effectiveness of data processing and datainterchange.In the development of this part of ISO/IEC 6523, it has been rec

20、ognized that a single method for identifying all organizationson an international basis is neither feasible nor practicable. Instead, this part of ISO/IEC 6523 recognizes existing methods ofidentification and provides a means for systematically incorporating these in a uniform structure for the purp

21、oses of informationinterchange. In this part of ISO/IEC 6523 an organization may be identified by more than one identification method.The use of the structure for the identification of organizations and organization parts, for the purpose of interchange ofinformation, will:a) Improve the accuracy of

22、 the identification of organizations and organization parts, and hence of the interchange of data;b) reduce the need for human intervention in the interchange of information in machine-to-machine environments;c) diminish the time required to specify interchange agreements;d) as a consequence of the

23、foregoing, reduce the cost of the interchange of data.Examples illustrating the use of the structure for the identification of organizations and organization parts are given ininformative annex B.The significant changes since the preceding edition of ISO/IEC 6523 (1984) are the following: The standa

24、rd has been split into two parts, according to the ISO/IEC rules for the elaboration of standards; The organization name has been removed from the structure; The format of the ICD has been changed to variable length; The length limit for the organization identifier has been changed to 35 characters;

25、 The restrictions on the types of characters in the organization identifier have been removed; The identification of organization parts, which was only implicit in the preceding version of the standard, through thegeneric definition given for the word “organization“, is now explicit, through a separ

27、Part 1:Identification of organization identification schemes1 Scope1.1 This part of ISO/IEC 6523 specifies a structure for globally and unambiguously identifying organizations, and parts thereof,for the purpose of information interchange.This part of ISO/IEC 6523 also makes recommendations regarding

28、 cases where prior agreements may be concluded betweeninterchange partners.1.2 This part of ISO/IEC 6523 does not specify file organization techniques, storage media , languages, etc. to be used in itsimplementation.2 Normative referencesThe following standards contain provisions which, through refe

35、 6523 include the following examples:a) an organization incorporated under law;b) an unincorporated organization or activity providing goods and/or services including:1) partnerships;2) social or other non-profit organizations or similar bodies in which ownership or control is vested in a group of i

42、ncoding.4 Structure for the identification of organizations and organization partsThe purpose of the structure for the identification of organizations and organization parts is to provide a global andunambiguous identification of one organization among all other organizations, and of any part of it

43、as appropriate.4.1 Components of the structureThe structure for the identification of organizations and organization parts consists of the following four components:a) the International Code Designator (ICD);b) the identification of an organization within an identification scheme: a data element con

44、taining an organizationidentifier;c) the identification of an organization part: a data element containing an organization part identifier (OPI);d) the OPI source indicator (OPIS): a data element containing a code value indicating the source of the OPI.The third component, identification of an organ

45、ization part, is optional. It is used when and only when one wants to designate aspecific part within an organization.The fourth component, the OPI source indicator (OPIS), shall not be used if the third component is not used; it is optional whenthe OPI is used. 49、ational Code Designator (ICD)4.2.1 The International Code Designator (ICD) is used to uniquely identify an organization identification scheme.4.2.2 The ICD values are all integers from 1 to 9999. The ICD may be transmitted as a variable-length data element;conversely, if transmitted in a 4 digit fixed length field, leading zeros shall be added to complete the format to 4 digits if theICD value is less than 1000.4.2.3 An Interna
