Consensus is established when, in the judgment of the ANSI Board of Standards Review, substantial agreement has been reached by directly, and materially affected interests. Substantial agreement me

、). ANSI C136.21 American National Standard for Roadway and Area Lighting EquipmentVertical Tenons Used with Post Top-mounted Luminaires 4 Mounting Provisions 4.1 NPT Thread Mount The luminaire/mounting housing shall be tapped with internal 1 in., 1 in., or 2 in. NPT pipe threads, per ANSI/ASME B1.20

、.1. The luminaires shall also have provisions for applying a wrench to tighten as per manufacturers specifications and to provide anti-rotation. 4.2 Ball-and-Socket Style Mount Ball-and-socket style mount shall have restriction ring securely attached to the luminaire. Restriction ring shall be desig

、ned to be securely clamped inside an arm and/or adapter bracket and shall meet the leveling requirements in clause 4.3. 4.3 Leveling The mounting mechanism shall allow for the luminaire to self-level; allowing the luminaire to remain 1 from vertical. 5 Electrical Connections and Wiring 5.1 Terminal

、Block If a terminal block is specified, then it shall be a closed-back, fully insulated terminal block with a minimum of two line-side pressure-type wire connectors having slotted-head captive screws shall be securely mounted in the luminaire, so that incoming conductors will clear all internal acce

、ssories. Each connector shall accept only one conductor (either solid or stranded), from 14 American Wire Gauge (AWG) to 6 AWG copper/aluminum. All connectors shall be clearly designated and marked as to what leads to connect to them. 5.2 Connectors Internal to the Luminaire ANSI C136.53-2017 Page 3

、 2017 National Electrical Manufacturers Association Each connectors terminal shall be rated for the wire being connected. No twist-on wire connector shall be used for any connection. 5.3 Supply Leads If instead of a terminal block, supply leads are provided in the luminaire, they shall conform to th

、e color coding of the National Electrical Codefor the various voltages. Leads shall be properly secured with strain relief suitable for the wires and cables to prevent mechanical stress on the connection points in the luminaire. Leads shall extend a minimum of 12 inches outside the electrical cavity

、 or as specified by the user to allow for splicing. Leads shall be between 12 and 18 AWG copper. 5.4 Wiring and Grounding All internal components shall be assembled and pre-wired so that the luminaire can be energized by line connections at the terminal block. Internal luminaire conductors shall hav

、e insulation rated to exceed the maximum temperature inside. A means shall be provided for grounding the noncurrent-carrying metal parts of the luminaire. All wiring and electrical components (including the photocontrol receptacle) shall not exceed their temperature design limits when the luminaire

、is operated. This includes draft-free air across the luminaire operating temperature or as otherwise specified. 6 Assembly Features The luminaires shall be constructed to securely attach or retain all internal components in their proper place without relying on gravity. Provision shall be made for s

、upporting access closures while installing or servicing. Captive devices shall secure all access closures. 7 Voltage Classification The luminaire shall be 600-volt classification as defined in ANSI C136.2. 8 Lamp Socket 8.1 High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Luminaires Luminaires shall be equipped with

、either a medium or mogul screw-based socket that meets requirements of ANSI C136.4 and ANSI C136.11. 8.2 Induction Luminaires Luminaires that are intended for use with induction lighting systems shall have a lamp mounting means that provides robust attachment and suitable thermal management per ANSI

、 C136.38. 9 Refractor and Lens replacement The refractor or lens shall be retained so that it may be replaced without tools (preferred) or with a blade-type screwdriver (acceptable). Position-oriented refractors shall be clearly marked. 10 Ingress Protection The luminaire attachment shall be designe

、d to prevent water from entering the luminaire once installed, as recommended by the luminaire manufacturer. The luminaire shall be water and particle resistant to ANSI C136.53-2017 Page 4 2017 National Electrical Manufacturers Association ANSI/IEC 60529 ingress protection rating IP54 or higher. If

、application of sealant is necessary to properly seal the luminaire once installed, luminaire manufacturers installation instructions shall be followed. The optical cavity shall be water and particle resistant to ANSI/IEC 60529 ingress protection rating IP65 or higher. 11 Light distribution The light

、 distribution shall be as defined in ANSI/IESNA RP-8. 12 Ballast or Driver 12.1 Ballast HID luminaires shall be equipped with a ballast to operate a high-intensity discharge lamp as specified on the nameplate described in the applicable American National Standard for the lamp. It shall also satisfy the dielectric withstand requirements as defined in Section 6 of ANSI C136.2. 12.2 Driver Light-Emitting Diode (LED) luminaires shall be equipped with a driver that meets all the requirements in ANSI C136.37. 12.3 Additional Labeling In addition to the l
