、andards Draft, subject to change.P1073.1.3.5 Defibrillators5ForewordThis is the fourth Draft copy of the IEEE-1073 Defibrillator Device Standard and incorporatesrecommended changes from other editors and reviewers.Non-trivial changes include:1) Distinction between Semi-automatic Mode and Automatic M
、ode (section 6.1.1 and various locations)2) Added data item for Paddles Type based on the enumerations in the SCP-ECG standard. (section 6.2)3) Added distinction between Selected vs. Delivered Pacing Energy. (section 6.2)4) CEN codes added for parameters matching those in CEN/TC 251/PT5-021/N97-63 V
、ital SignsInformation Representation, Annex A, Pre-final version Oct 97. (section 6.2)5) New section on compliance following that of the latest revisions of the Vital Signs documents. (section9.3 and 9.4)Remaining open issues:1) Whether pacing functions should be retained within the defibrillator VM
、D or moved to a pacing VMD oftheir own. This should get some discussion during the balloting process.2) Should the parameters without matching CEN codes be retained or should equivalent items with CEN codesbe substituted?3) Alignment with any changes to the conformance model.Copyright The Institute

、ntroductionThe primary purpose of the IEEE 1073 series of standards is to provide a consistent object model across thevast area of Medical Devices, Systems, and Sub-Systems. To achieve this it is necessary to provide a detaileddescription of the various Medical Devices along with the modeling techni
、que used to describe these devices. The interoperability of these medical devices in the patient bedside environment, primarily between thebedside and the patient care information systems, will play a major part in the future of medical informatics.A general overview of the entire IEEE 1073 series of
、 standards can be found in the IEEE 1073 Standard forMedical Device Communications Overview and Framework document. The IEEE 1073.1.3.1 standard (thisdocument) concentrates specifically on the domain of Defibrillator Devices. The structure and organization of the Defibrillator Device is based on the
、Object Oriented Design andModeling information contained in the Domain Information Model section of the Vital Signs InformationRepresentation document developed by the associated CEN/TC 251/PT5-021 committee. This Object modelin turn is primarily based on the Object Oriented analysis approach of Coa
、d and Yourdon. In this documentthe Object Oriented design tools used are based on the UML (Unified Modeling Language) Rational Rose tooldeveloped by the Rational Software Company. The definitions and terminology used in this Defibrillator Device document relies heavily on that establishedby the SCP-E
、CG Protocol standard. (CEN prENV1064:1993 v1.0). As the SCP-ECG standard evolves, it isexpected that the IEEE-1073 Defibrillator VMD definitions and structure will follow changes to thisstandard. Acceptance of defibrillator behavior or terminology new to the CEN/TC 251/PT5-021 Vital Signscommittee m
、ay require joint efforts by the IEEE-1073 committee, CEN, and the AAMI working groupreviewing the SCP-ECG standard. It should be assumed by the reader of this document, unless otherwisestated, that terms and concepts used here are in compliance with existing IEEE-1073 methodology and withthe SCP-ECG
、 v1.0 standard. The upper layer language discussed in this document is based on the IEEE P1073.1.x (MDDL) series ofdocuments. The profiles are derived from the associated IEEE P1073.2.x (MDAP) series of documents. The communications related sections of this standard draw heavily on the ISO Open System
、s InterconnectSeven Layer Basic Reference Model in addition to the various Medical Information Bus sub-sets of thesedocuments as described in the IEEE P1073.x series of documents. Reliable data delivery, particularly in thearea of patient safety related information, has been a primary concern in the
