SCOPE This Standard details definitions, methods

、of measurement, and minimum standards for characteristics of mobile and base AM transceivers, transmitters, and receivers, utilizing 6KOOA3E type emissions. These devices are intended for operation in the Citizens Band (CB) Radio Service as defined in Part 95 and Part 15 of Code of Federal Regulatio

、ns, Title 47 (CFR 47) which are known as the Rules and Communications Commission. Regulations of the Federal The minimum standards herein apply to all channel settings included in the equipment and over the range of carrier frequencies specified in Section 95.625 of CFR 47. This standard is intended

、 to promote the capability of these transmitters and receivers with the communications systems in which they will operate; however, they should not be construed as a guideline for definition of a high performance product. Rather, the individual minimum standards define a level of performance below w

、hich consistently satisfactory operation within the intended service could not be achieved. Although some of the standards herein are prepared as a guide for compliance measurements, familiarization with appropriate sections of Parts 2, 15, and 95; in CFR 47, as well as appropriate Measurement Proce

、Standard Modulation The RF input signal source shall be amplitude modulated at 1000 Hz at such a level to produce 30% modulation. EIA TIA-382-A 30 m 323i.1600 OOOSOfib 3 m EIA/TIA-382-A Page 4 3. RECEIVER SENSITIVITY 3.1 Definition The Receiver Sensitivity of the receiver is the minimum value of inp

、ut signal that will produce a 10 dB signal plus noise to noise, (S + N)/N, ratio, with standard modulation. 3.2 Method of Measurement A standard input signal source shall be connected to the receiver antenna input terminals. A standard audio output load and voltmeter shall be connected to the audio

、output terminals, With the signal source set for 1000 UV, the volume control shall be adjusted for the standard audio test level. The standard signal source shall then be adjusted until the ratio of audio output level with standard modulation to the audio output level, without modulation, is 10 dB.

、3.3 Minimum Standard The Receiver Sensitivity shall be at least 1.0 microvolt under Standard Test Conditions. 4. RECEIVER AUTOMATIC GAIN CONTROL 4.1 Definition The Receiver Automatic Gain Control performance of the receiver is the measure of the ability of the unit to deliver a constant level of aud

The standard signal source shall be reduced from 50,000 microvolts output until the audio output decreases 10 dB. The signal source output shall be measured at the

、point where the audio output is reduced 10 dB. The audio power output and distortion versus RF input shall be plotted. The RF output change of the standard signal source shall be noted in dB. EIA TIA-382-A 70 m 3234600 0007067 O m EIA/TIA-382-A Page 5 4.3 Minimum Standard The RF output change in dB

、required for 10 dB reduction in audio output shall be the measure of AGC performance. Under Standard Test Conditions, the minimum shall be 70 dB and distortion shall not exceed 10%. The output versus input curve shall be smooth and free from dips and discontinuities. 5. RECEIVER AUDIO SQUELCH SENSIT

、IVITY 5.1 Definition The Receiver Audio Squelch Sensitivity is the minimum level of a standard input signal that, with standard modulation applied, will open the receiver squelch. 5.2 Method of Measurement 5.2.1 Threshold A standard input signal source, with standard modulation applied, shall be con

、nected to the receiver antenna input terminals. A standard audio output load and voltmeter shall be connected to the audio output terminals of the receiver. The volume control shall be adjusted for the standard audio test level. With no RF signal input to the receiver, the squelch control shall be a

、djusted to quiet the noise. The RF level of the input signal source shall be increased from zero until the receiver produces continuous audio output within 20 dB of the standard audio test level. The minimum input signal level required to produce this condition is defined as the squelch low threshol

、d level. a 5.2.2 Tight The RF signal required to produce continuous audio output within 10 dB of the standard audio test level with the squelch control in its maximum position (usually one end of its mechanical range) is defined as the tight squelch. 5.3 Minimum Standards The Receiver Audio Squelch

、Sensitivity threshold level under Standard Test Conditions shall be no greater than 1 microvolt and the tight level under Standard Test Conditions shall be no greater than 5000 microvolts nor less than 100 microvolts. 40、 6.1 Definition Receiver Selectivity is the ability of the receiver to reject a single signal whose frequency is not the same as the channel frequency to which the receiver is tuned. 6.2 Method of Measurement A standard modulated RF signal source is coupled to the receiver antenna input and the audi

、o output is terminated with the standard load and an audio voltmeter. The volume is adjusted to the standard test audio level. The RF signal level is readjusted for 10 dB (S + N)/N. Then the RF signal frequency is offset to the upper adjacent channel (+ 10 kHz) and its level is increased to obtain a

、 10 dB (S + N)/N ratio. This process is repeated for the lower adjacent channel (-10 kHz) and again for the next adjacent channels (+ /- 20 kHz). The ratio in dB of the generator level for on channel 10 dB (S + N)/N relative to the smaller level which delivers 10 dB (S t N)/N when it is off channel

、is recorded. The next adjacent channel selectivity is the smaller of the ratios for the two 10 kHz offsets. The alternate adjacent channel is the smallest of the ratios for offsets of 20 kHz. 6.3 Minimum St andard The minimum Receiver Selectivity for the adjacent channel and for the alternate adjace

、nt channel shall be 35 dB under Standard Test Conditions. 7. RECEIVER DESENSITIZATION IMMUNITY 7.1 Definition Receiver Desensitization Immunity is the measure of a receivers ability to maintain its sensitivity in the presence of a simultaneous signal which is at a frequency 100 kHz or greater from t

、he desired signal frequency. EIA TIA-382-A 90 m 3234600 O009069 4 m EIA/TIA3 82-A Page 7 7.2 Method of Measurement Two standard RF signal sources shall be equally coupled to the receiver antenna input through a 6 dB coupler/combiner. A standard audio output load and voltmeter shall be connected to t

、he receivers audio output. Signal source #1, with standard modulation, is adjusted to 10 dB (S + N)/N sensitivity as in paragraph 3. Signal source #2 is unmodulated, set to a frequency 100 kHz above the desired channel frequency, and increased to the lowest level which reduces the (S + N)/N to 5 dB.

、 Repeat the above test with signal source #2 set for 100 kHz below the desired channel frequency. The desensitization is reported as the smallest dB ratio between signal source #1 and signal source #2 for spacings of 100 kHz or greater from the desired channel frequency. 7.3 Minimum Standard The min

、imum Receiver Desensitization Immunity shall be 35 dB under Standard Test Conditions. 8. RECEIVER ADJACENT CHANNEL REJECTION 8.1 Definition Receiver Adjacent Channel Rejection is a measure of a receivers ability to satisfactorily receive a desired signal in the presence of a simultaneous signal whic

、h differs in . frequency from the desired signal by the width of one channel (10 kHz). e 8.2 Method of Measurement Two standard input signal sources shall be connected to the receivers antenna input terminals through a 6 dB coupler/combiner. A standard audio output load and voltmeter shall be connected to the receivers audio output terminals. With standard modulation applied, signal source #1 shall be adjusted to a level 3 dB greater than the level required to produce 10 dB (S + N)/N. With 400 Hz, 30% modulation applied, signal source #2 shall be first tuned to the high (
