、g ) ANSI/TIA-470.112 vi Introduction Analog telephones have traditionally been designed for transmitting and receiving audio in the 300 to 3400 Hz frequency range for legacy PSTN reasons. These telephones are increasingly being used with wideband-capable residential gateways that can deliver VoIP-ba

、sed telephony in the 50 to 7000 Hz frequency range. Wideband telephony offers greater audio clarity and could enable new services such as streaming audio or enhanced speech recognition. The lack of standards for wideband analog telephony has given rise to a chicken and egg situation whereby gateway

、manufacturers are waiting for wideband telephones to become available in order to offer this feature and terminal manufacturers are not developing wideband telephones for the lack of wideband voice gateways with which they can operate. This document is one of a group of standards intended to help re

、solve the issue. This Standard provides wideband transmission requirements for telephones equipped with handsets. Companion documents in the ANSI/TIA-470.1X2 series provide corresponding wideband transmission requirements for telephones equipped with speakerphones and headsets. ANSI/TIA-470.112 1 Te

、lephone Terminal Equipment Transmission Requirements for Wideband Analog Telephones with Handsets 1 SCOPE This standard provides acoustic transmission performance requirements for handset equipped analog telephones intended for connection to terminal adapters and voice gateways that provide wideband

、 speech using packet-based services such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). These services are often referred to as high definition or HD voice services. The specification range for this standard is 100 to 8000 Hz, but for practical reasons the actual audio bandwidth of covered devices is typic

、ally about 150 to 6800 Hz. The terminal adapters and voice gateways used to provide HD voice services normally present 600 ohm impedances and are connected to the wideband telephone with very short lengths of cabling. If the wideband telephone is likely to be used in applications where it may also b

、e connected to narrowband voice services, such as the public switched telephone network (PSTN), that provide 900 ohm impedances and may use significant lengths of loop (cabling), then evaluation for compliance with the latest version of the ANSI/TIA-470.110 standard for narrowband analog telephones
