、0-B standard (and previous versions of the TIA-470 standard). When TIA-470-B was revised, the requirements were divided into subdocuments and ANSI/TIA-470.220-C was published with the requirements for the alerter performance for analog interface telephones. ANSI/TIA-470.220-C changed the method used

、 to evaluate the acoustic alerter frequency content and calculate the acoustic output level. In previous versions of this standard, the frequency content was described in terms of two fundamental frequencies “f1” and “f2”, which were required to meet a number of specifications including minimum outp

、ut levels. The “f1” and “f2” concept was retained, but the specifications were relaxed to no longer require them to meet minimum output levels or to even be the largest output level components. This allowed other types of alerting sounds such as melodies to meet the standard. In addition, the output

、 level specification and method of measurement was changed from the total A-weighted sound power above a reflecting plane to the average A-weighted sound pressure measured at six equal angles around the DUT. ANSI/TIA-470.220-D removed the specification of fundamental frequencies and replaced it with

、 a requirement that de-rates the contribution of frequency components above 2000 Hz at the rate of 12 dB/octave when calculating the acoustic output level. This current revision removes Type-B ringing but retains Type-A. In 2015 TR-41 received liaison confirmation from ATIS that support for Type-B r

DUT Device Under Test LSI Long Silent Interval VMWI Visual Message Waiting Indicator 3.2 DEFINITIONS F

、or the purposes of this Standard, the following definitions apply. A-weighted sound pressure: An acoustic measurement made using the A frequency weighting curve specified in ANSI S1.4, expressed in dBA, referenced to 20 micro-pascals. De-rated A-Weighted Sound Pressure Level: A-weighted average soun

、d pressure level after applying a 12 dB per octave low-pass filter for all frequency components above 2000 Hz. Long Silent Interval: The extended interval of no ringing signal after the last On Period of a ringing cycle. Off-Hook: The state of the DUT when the hook-switch is closed. On-Hook: The sta

、te of the DUT when the hook-switch is open. On Period: The interval during a ringing cycle in which the ringing signal is applied to Tip and Ring. Off Period: The interval during a ringing cycle in which the ringing signal is removed from Tip and Ring. Ringing Cycle: The interval from the start of t

、he first On Period to the end of the Long Silent Interval. Type-A Ringing: Ringing at 20 Hz or 30 Hz as defined in ANSI/TIA-968-B ANSI/TIA-470.220-E 7 4 TESTING CONSIDERATIONS Alerters provide an acoustic output in response to ringing signals supplied to the device in the On-Hook State. The followin

、g requirements are intended to cover the response of alerters for Type-A ringing signals as identified in TIA-968-B. 4.1 TEST EQUIPMENT PERFORMANCE The ring generator in the various test circuits shall be capable of generating the applicable test signals. The source impedance shall be lower than 900

、 ohms and should be lower than 600 ohms. The test circuit shall use a true RMS Voltmeter. 4.2 TEST METHODS Several performance measurement procedures are established, each of which yields standardized measurement data that may be used for the determination of compliance with this standard. Although this document may reference specific procedures or test equipment, the intent is not to be all-inclusive. Any measurement procedure and equipment that can result in an identical measurement is co
