、(DOT) specications. 2 General 2.1 Components 2.1.1 Except as indicated in 2.1.2, a component of a valve covered by this standard shall comply with the requirements for that component. 2.1.2 A component is not required to comply with a specic requirement that: a) Involves a feature or characteristic

、not required in the application of the component in the product covered by this standard, or b) Is superseded by a requirement in this standard. 2.1.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions of use. 2.1.4 Specic components are incomplete in con

、struction features or restricted in performance capabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certain temperatures not exceeding specied limits, and shall be used only under those specic conditions. 25、es 2.3.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this standard shall be interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard. 3 Glossary 3.1 FLOW CAPACITY (Measured Relieving Capacity) The ow capacity of a safety valve measured at the ow-rating

、 pressure, expressed in cubic feet per minute of air at a temperature of 15.6C (60F) and at a pressure of 14.7 pounds per square inch absolute (psia). 3.2 PRESSURE, BLOWDOWN The value of decreasing inlet static pressure at which no further discharge is detected at the outlet of a safety valve of the

、 resilient-disc type after the valve has been subjected to a pressure equal to or above the popping pressure. 3.3 PRESSURE, FLOW RATING The inlet static pressure at which relieving capacity of a safety valve is measured for rating purposes. 3.4 PRESSURE, POPPING The value of increasing inlet static

、pressure at which the disc moves in the opening direction at a faster rate as compared with corresponding movement at higher or lower pressures. It applies only to safety valves on compressible uid service. 3.5 PRESSURE, RESEALING The value of decreasing inlet static pressure at which leakage ceases

、 through a specied water seal on the outlet of a pressure-relief valve after the valve has been subjected to a pressure above the start-to-discharge pressure, but below the popping pressure. It applies only to relief valves of the resilient-disc type. 3.6 PRESSURE, SET The value of increasing inlet

、static pressure at which a pressure-relief valve displays the operational characteristic dened under start-to-discharge pressure. 3.7 PRESSURE, START-TO-DISCHARGE The value of increasing inlet static pressure at which the rst bubble occurs when a pressure-relief valve of the resilient-disc type is t

、ested by means of air under a specied water seal on the outlet. 3.8 VALVE, HYDROSTATIC RELIEF A pressure-relief valve actuated by hydrostatic inlet pressure that opens in proportion to the increase in pressure over the opening pressure. 3.9 VALVE, PRESSURE RELIEF A valve designed to open by inlet st

、D LP-GAS - UL 132 5UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL 4 Unit Assemblies 4.1 A safety valve may be furnished separately, threaded into, or made integral with the assembly of a multiple-head unit or a manifold. When a safety valve

、 is furnished as a separate unit, the assigned ow capacity applies only when it is mounted in a straight coupling or the equivalent in the top of the tank, and no restriction to ow is introduced on either the inlet or outlet side of the valve. Installation, otherwise, normally introduces restriction

、 to ow that reduces the ow capacity. 4.2 When a safety valve is: a) Installed in a multiple-head unit or manifold other than one with which the valve was ow- tested and rated, b) Used with vapor tubes, c) Mounted in a tting in such a manner as to introduce restriction to ow ahead of the valve inlet,

、 or d) Mounted so that the ow is restricted on the discharge side by the use of vent piping and ttings, the assigned ow capacity does not apply. The ow tests shall be conducted under such conditions of installation to determine the ow capacity. CONSTRUCTION 5 Assembly 5.1 A safety relief valve shall

、 be of the direct spring-loaded resilient-seat disc or seal construction and shall be characterized by pop action upon opening. 5.2 A hydrostatic relief valve shall be of the direct spring-loaded resilient-seat disc or seal construction, but is not required to be characterized by pop action. 5.3 A v

、alve shall include all of the components required for its intended function and installation and shall be assembled as a single unit. 5.4 A seat disc or seal shall be securely attached to its poppet or holder so that it is not possible for the disc or seal to become dislocated under service conditio

、ns. 5.5 The outlet of a pilot valve or a pilot valve incorporating a vent shall be constructed to reduce the risk of inoperability due to ice formation or clogging. 5.6 Shut-off valves incorporated in the construction of a Safety Relief Valve shall be evaluated to the Standard for Safety for Flow Co
