2、 1. SCOPE -3 1.1 Scope. This document covers beverage base powders prepared from natural or artificial flavors or combinations thereof, and other specified ingredients. When mixed with water, as specified, the beverage will resemble the fresh fruit juice of the flavor indicated. Forces as a componen

In the event of a conflict between the text of this specification and the references cited herein, the text of this specification shall take precedence. Nothing in this specification, however, shall supersede applicable laws and regulat

21、ions unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Bid sample approval. Unless otherwise specified, six filled and sealed samples (see 6.11, representative of the product which the bidder proposes to furnish shall be submitted to the contracting officer prior to the bid opening

22、date. Part of the bid sample will be evaluated for acceptability by a consumer panel at the U.S. Army Natick Research, Development, and Engineering Center (see 6.3). reference standard for product palatability during production in the event that the contract is subsequently awarded to the bidder. Al

23、ternatively, the contractor may submit standard flavors without sugar and acid to be used as reference standards. The approval of any bid sample will not constitute approval of the sample as meeting the other requirements of this document. The remainder of an approved bid sample will be retained for

24、 use as a 3.2 Ingredients. All ingredients shall be clean, sound, wholesome, and free from foreign material, evidence of rodent or insect infestation, extraneous material, off-odors, off-flavors, and off-colors. d 3.2.1 Flavors. All volatile flavors shall be entrapped or encapsulated by incorporatin

25、g them in vegetable gum, sorbitol, dextrose, or other edible material, in such a manner that the flavors are protected from oxidation, rancidity, evaporation, or other types of deterioration. All flavor ingredients shall comply with the Flavor Extract Manufacture Association Lists. 4 .a Provided by

Food acidulants shall conform to the requirements specified in the Food Chemicals Codex, where applicable. Fumaric acid, when used, shall be of the type

27、 that will insure rapid solubility in cold water. 3.2.3 Sugar. Sugar shall be white, refined, granulated cane or beet sugar or a combination thereof. Either superfine or extrafine grade or finer shall be used. 3.2.4 Corn sirup. Corn sirup or corn sirup solids shall be derived from a clarified, conce

28、ntrated aqueous solution obtained by incomplete hydrolysis of corn starch. 3.2.5 Dextrose. Dextrose shall be dextrose hydrate or anhydrous dextrose or a combination thereof. lb 3.2.6 Coloring materials. Coloring materials shall be vegetable colors or approved US certified food colors. The coloring m

29、aterials shall be acid- resistant. 3.2.7 Emulsifying, coating, clouding, and entrapping or encapsulating agents. Emulsifying, coating, clouding, and entrapping or encapsulating agents shall be safe and suitable food components. 3.2.8 Tricalcium phosphate. Tricalcium phosphate shall conform to the Fo

30、od Chemicals Codex. 3.2.9 Ascorbic acid. Ascorbic acid shall conform to the Food Chemicals Codex. 3.2.10 Antioxidants. Antioxidants used shall comply with the Food Chemical Codex grade where applicable and the level of use shall comply with FDA . regulations. 3.3 Formulation. The powdered beverages

31、shall be blends of artificial or natural flavors or combination thereof and food acids. Citrus oils, when used shall be partially deterpenized. The powdered beverages may contain dextrose, and coloring materials. Corn sirup solids, vegetable gum, sugar, sorbital, and emulsifying, coating, entrapping

32、 and clouding agents may be used to improve the properties of the product. Tricalcium phosphate may be used to the extent of 1 percent of the powder, provided that the total phosphorous content calculated as P2O5 does not exceed 0.5 percent. The powdered beverage mix shall be fortified with ascorbi

33、c acid and the mix shall contain a full complement of sugar or a mixture of sugar and dextrose. Thebeverage mix to be packaged in envelopes containing 17 grams of mix shall be fortified with 20 to 40 milligrams of ascorbic acid. of beverage mix shall be fortified with 20 to 40 milligrams of ascorbic

The finished product shall comply with the require- ments of 3.4.1 through 3.4.4 and shall be free from the presence of any foreign material (e.g. glass, dirt, insects, insect parts, hair, wood, or metal).

The moisture content of the product shall be not more than 2.0 percent. 3.4.2 Physical condition. The product shall be a homogen

36、ous mixture free from hard lumps. 3.4.3 Finished prepared beverage. When 34 grams of beverage base are added to 12 fluid ounces of cold water, or 17 grams of beverage base added to 6 fluid ounces of cold water, the resulting beverage shall comply with the following requirements : Acidity : Solubilit

The product shall completely dissolve in not more than 2 minutes when reconstituted with specified amount of water at 400 to 500F w

39、to flavor 1,. 3.4.4 Palatability. The palatability of the beverage prepared for delivery shall be equal to the beverages prepared with approved bid samples. 3.5 Plant qualification. The product shall be prepared, processed, and packaged in establishments meeting the requirements of Title 21, Code of

40、 Federal Regulations, Part 110, ICurrent Good Manufacturing Practice in Manufacturing, Processing, Packaging or Holding of Human Foodsl, and the plant sanitation requirements of the appropriate Government inspection agency. 3.6 Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. All deliveries shall conform in eve

41、ry respect to the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and regulations promulgated thereunder. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Contractors responsibility. Inspection and acceptance by the USDA shall not relieve the contractor of obligation and responsibility to deliver a produc

42、t complying with all requirements of this document. 43、 4 = MIL-B-35023H 4.2 Inspection and acceptance service. Product acceptability shall be determined by the USDA. The USDA will determine the degree of inspection necessary to assure compliance with the requirements of this document. 4.3 Quality conformance inspection. Unless otherwise specified, samp

44、ling for inspection shall be performed in accordance with MIL-STD-105. 4.3.1 Component and material inspection. In accordance with 4.1, components and materials shall be inspected in accordance with all the requirements of referenced documents unless otherwise excluded, amended, modified, or qualifi

45、ed in this document or applicable purchase document. 1 4.3.1.1 Ingredient examination. Conformance of ingredients to identity, condition, and other requirements specified in 3.2 shall be certified by the ingredient supplier or ingredient manufacturer, or compliance be verified by examination of pert

46、inent labels, markings, US Grade Certificates, certificates of analyses, or other such valid documents acceptable to the inspection agency. If necessary, each ingredient shall be examined organoleptically or inspected according to generally recognizable test methods, such as the standard methods des

47、cribed in the Official Methods of Analysis of the Association of Official Analytical Chemists and in the Approved Methods of the American Association of Cereal Chemists, to determine conformance to the requirements. Any nonconformance to an identity, condition, or other requirement shall be cause fo

48、r rejection of the ingredient or component lot or of any involved product. CI 4.3.1.2 Packaging material certification.
