17、ict between the text of this document and the references cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 1 3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2

18、), a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 6.4) in accordance with 4.3. 3.2 Guide sample. Guide samples, when furnished, are solely for guidance and information to the contractor (see 6.3). appear in the sample, in which case this specifi-cation shall govern. Variation from this

19、 specification may fi 3.3 Material. It is encouraged that recycled material be.used when practical as long as it meets the requirements of this specification. 3.3.1 Coated cloth. The coated cloth shall be cloth, nylon, butyl-coated, conforming to MIL-C-12189, fc 3.3.2 Strapping. The strapping used t

20、o seal the seams and hems shall be 1 2 1/16 inch wide, true bias cut (45 degrees $: 10 degrees) and shall be made of the coated fabric specified in 3.3.1 or butyl coated cotton cloth conforming to MIL-C-12189. 3.3.3 Cement. The cement used to pre-cement the seams and to adhere the- strapping to the

21、seams shall be of the self-curing neoprene or butyl-base type. The cement, when applied and tested as specified in table IV and 4.4.1.1, shall not crack or flake and the hydrostatic resistance of the cemented fabric shall be equal to that of the butyl-coated cloth before cementing. 3.3.4 Sponge rubb

22、er. Sponge rub.ber for the sleeve pad shall be 1/4 + 1/32 thick and shall conform to MIL-C-3133 and-to type R, grade R03 of MIL-STD-670. 3.3.5 Thread. k 3.3.5.1 For seaming and stitching. The thread shall be polyester, type I, class 1, subclass A conforming to V-T-285. Sizes shall be B or E as speci

25、155. 3.3.7 Webbing cotton. The cotton webbing shall be type IIa, class 4, 3/4, 1 or 1-1/2 inches wide as applicable, dyed Olive Drab 7 conforming to MIL-W-530. 3.3.8 Braid for gusset. The braid for the gusset shall be type V, class 4, Olive Drab 7 conforming to MIL-B-371. It shall be 85 inches long

26、and tipped or resin coated at both ends, to prevent raveling. 3.3.9 Buttons, metal. The metal buttons shall be type I or II, size 27 line and the tack shall be type IX, size 14 or 17 line by 0.406 conforming to MIL-B-286. 3.3.10 Suspenders, The suspenders shall be type I of MIL-S-6790 except that th

27、e wire buttonhole of the suspenders shall be a tight fit on the shank of the selected metal button specified in 3.3.9, the color of the webbing shall be Olive Drab 7. 3.3.11 Buckle. The buckle shall conform to type II, style 4, class 1, construction B, size 3/4 inch of MIL-B-543, except the brass sh

28、all conform to composition 268, quarter-hard, or half-hard brass of QQ-B-613. 3.3.12 Snap fasteners. -The snap fasteners shall be fastener, snap male and female conforming to style 2A for suspenders only and style 2 for all others, finish 2 of MIL-F-10884. When a cloth label is used, it shall conform to type VI of DDD-L-20, with the following exceptions: . a. The label shall be coated a

34、s specified for -classes 3, 7 and 11. b. shall be printed parallel to the small dimension. c. All co.1orfastness and writing-tests are not applicable. The label shall measure 2-3/4 by 1-1/2 inches and the legend 3.3.17.2 Stamped label, When a stamped label is used, the legend shall be printed direct

35、ly on the coated fabric with black indelible ink. Letters shall be sans-serif, extra bold, monotone style, 14 point (caps only). 3.3.17.3 Colorfastness of labels. Both the cloth label and the stamped label shall be legible and shall not become.faded or tacky after testing as specified in 4.4.1.1. 3.

36、3.18 Dusting powder. The dusting powder for application to the coveralls shall be whiting (less than 1.0 percent free silica) talc (nonfibrous), or other finely divided low toxicity material which does not support mildew growth. 9 3.3.19 Soap. The soap for seam testing shall be an anioni8 surfactant

37、 2.5 weight percent (e.g.; IGEPON-T77 or equivalent) to be used in distilled water (see 6.5). 3.4 Patterns. Standard patterns which provide the proper allowance for all seams, will be furnished by the Government. The Go.vernment patterns shall not be altere in any way and are to be used tmly as a.gu

38、ide for cutting the con- tractors working patterns. The working patterns hall be identical to the Government patterns. . I .* I 7. 3.4.1 Pattern parts. The pattern components for the coveralls shall be cut from the materials as specified and according to the number of parts- listed in table I. TABLE

The construction shall conform in all respects to the requirements specified in table II and herein. Figures 1 and 2 are furnished solely for guidance and information. in figures 1

43、 or 2, the document shall govern. Should variation from the document appear 3.5.1 Stitching, seams and stitches. All stitches, seams and stitching shall conform to FED-STD-751. The type o seam, stitching, and stitches per inch shall be as speciied in table II. Seam allowances shall be maintained wit

44、h seams sewn so that no raw edges, run-Offs, pleats, puckers, or open seams occur. When two or more methods of seams or stitches are given for the same operation, any one may be used. Where stitch type 401 is used, the chain or underside of the stitch shall be on the inside of the coveralls. 3.5.1.1

45、 Type 301 stitching, Ends of all stitching shall be backstitched or overstitched not less than 1/2 inch except where ends are turned under or caught in other seams or stitching. will be no loose stitching resulting in loose bobbin or top thread or excess- ively tight stitching resulting in puckering

46、 of the materials sewn. The lock shall be imbedded in the materials sewn. Repairs of type 301 stitching shall be as follo

47、ws: a. When thread breaks or bobbin run-outs occur during stitching, the stitching shall be repaired by restarting the stitching a minimum of 1/2 inch back of the end of the stitching. L/ b. Thread breaks or two or more consecutive skipped or run-off stitches noted during end item inspection shall b

48、e repaired by overstitching, The stitching shall start a minimum o 1/2 inch in back of the defective area and continue a minimum of 1/2 inch beyond the defective area onto the existing stitching. Loose or excessively tight stitching shall be repaired by removing the defective stitching without damag

49、ing the materials and restitching in the required manner. - l/ When making the above repairs, the ends of the slitching are not required to be backst itched. 3.5.1.2 Type 401 stitching. Thread tension shall be maintained so that there will be no loose stitching. All repairs shall be in accordance with 3.5.1.1.1 a. and b. Type.301 stitching may be used to perform the repairs. 3.5.1.3 Bartacks. Unless otherwise specified, all.bartacks shall be 3/8 - + 1/16 inch long and 1/8 + 1/32 inch wide, and shall contain 28 stitches. Bartacking shall be free from thread breaks and loose
