MIL-C-40004B MILITARY SPECIFICATION CLOTH, KNITTED, COTTON, SIMPLEX This specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers two types of simplex knitted c

2、otton cloth. 1.2 Classification. The cloth shall be of the following types and classes as specified (see 6.2): Type 1 Type II Class 1 Class 2 Class 3 Class 4 Class 5 Class 6 - 9.5 oz. per sq. yd. - 7.5 oz. per sq. yd. - White, Shade No. 3028 - Gray, Shade No. 1164 - Gray, Shade No. 1163 - Seal Brown

In the event of a conflict between the text of this document and the references cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and r

14、egulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 6.3) in accordance with 4.3. 3.2 Standard sample. The finished cloth shall match the standard sample for shade and appea

15、rance and shall be equal to or better than the standard sample with respect to all characteristics for which the standard sample is referenced (see 6.4). 3.3 Material. 3.3.1 Yarn. The yarn shall be made from cotton which has been carded, combed, and spun into singles yarn. 3.4 Color. The color of th

16、e finished cloth shall be as specified (see 6.2). When White (class 1) is specified, the cloth shall be bleached and shall be supplemented with an optical brightner to enhance the appearance of the cloth. 3.4.1 Labile sulfur. The use of dyes and compounds containing elementary sulfur capable of oxid

When no standard sample is available, the dyed and finished cloth shall show no more than a “slight trace“ of labile sulfur as defined in the test method specified in 4.4.3, 3.4.2 Matching, The color of the finished cloth shall match the standard sample when viewed u

19、nder filtered tungsten lamps that approximate artificial daylight and that have a correlated color temperature of 7500 2 200 K, with illumination of 100 2 20 foot candles and shall be a good match to the standard sample under incandescent lamplight at 2300 2 200 K. 3.4.3 Colorfastness. The dyed and

20、finished cloth shall show fastness to laundering and perspiration equal to or better than the standard sample or equal to or better than a rating of “good“. The dyed and finished cloth shall show fastness to crocking equal to or better than the standard sample or shall have an AATCC Chromatic Transf

21、erence Scale rating of not lower than 3.5 or “good“, .except for class 6 cloth which shall have an AATCC Chromatic Transference Scale rating of not lower than 1.5 or “fair“. Testing shall be as specified in 4.4.3. 3.5 Physical requirements. The finished cloth shall conform to the requirements specif

23、0 60 80 3.5.1 Knit. The knit shall be a 48-line Atlas pattern (see 6.5). The cloth shall be knit with nonravelling edges (see 6.5.1). 3.5.2 Width. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.21, the width of the cloth shall be a minimum of 36 inches, 3.6 Finish. The cloth shall be sueded on both sides and hav

24、e a suppleness equal to or better than the standard sample. 3.7 Non-fibrous materials. The starch and protein content including chloroform-soluble and water-soluble material of the finished cloth shall not exceed 5.0 percent when tested as specified in 4.4.3. 3.8 pH. The pH value of the water extrac

There shall be no more than 12.0 percent shrinkage in the

26、 direction of the length (wale direction) or 3.0 percent in the width (course direction) when tested as specified in 4.4.3. preshrinkage process used shall not be identified by name or tradmark either on the cloth, ticket or package. The 3.10 Length and put-up. For Government procurement only, unles

27、s otherwise specified (see 6.2), the cloth shall be furnished in continuous lengths, each not less than 35 yards. Each length shall be put-up on full width rolls as specified in 5.1. 3.11 Fiber identification. Each roll shall be labeled, ticketed or invoiced for fiber content in accordance with the

28、Textile Fiber Products Identification Act. 3.12 Workmanship. The finished cloth shall conform to the quality of product established by this specification and the occurrence of defects shall not exceed the applicable acceptable quality levels. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for in

29、spection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements (examinations and tests) as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or an

30、y other faeilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. any of the inspections set forth in this specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to ensure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements

31、. The Government reserves the right to perform 4.1.1 Responsibility for compliance. All items shall meet.al1 requirements of sections 3 and 5. The inspection set forth in this Specification shall become a part of the contractors overall inspection system or quality program. shall not relieve the con

32、tractor of the responsibility of ensuring that all products or supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance comply with all requirements of the contract. Sampling inspection, as part of manufacturing operations, is an acceptable practice to ascertain conformance to requirements, however, this

33、 does not authorize submission of known defective material, either indicated or actual, nor does it commit the Government to accept defective material. The absence of any inspection requirements in the specification 4.1.2 Certificates of compliance. When certificates of compliance are submitted, the

The inspect

35、ion requirements specified herein are classified as follows: a. First article inspection (see 4.3). b. Quality conformance inspection (see 4.4). 4.3 First article inspection. When a first article is required (see 3.1 and 6.2), it shall be examined for the defects specified in 4.4.2.1 through 4,4.%.3

36、 and tested as specified in 4.4.3. 4.4 Quality conformance inspection. Unless otherwise specified, sampling for inspection, shall be performed in accordance with MIL-STD-105. 4 4.1 Compone pection. In accordance with 4.1, components and materials shall. be inspected in accordance with all the requir

37、ements of referenced documents unless otherwise excluded, amended, modified, or qualified in this specification or applicable purchase document. 4.4.2 End item examination. 4.4.2.1 Yard-by-yard examination. The cloth shall be examined for the defects listed in table PI. Alb defects found shall. be c

38、ounted regardless of their proximity to each other, except where two or more defects represent a single local condition Q the cloth, in which case only the more serigus defect shall be counted. A continuous defect shall be counted as one for each wale-wise (length-wise) yard or fraction thereof in w

39、hich it occurs. The lot size shall be expressed in units of yards, The sample unit shall be 1 linear yard. The inspection level shall be II and the acceptable quality Level (AQL), expressed in terms of defects per hundred units, shall be 6,s for major defects and IO for total defects (major and mino

The cloth shall be examined for the defects listed below. Each defect listed shall be counted not more tha

During the yard-by-yard examination, each roll in the sample shall be examined for length. Any length found to be less than the minimum specified or more

49、 than 2 yards less than the length marked on the roll ticket shall be considered a length defect. If the total of the actual lengths of the rolls in the sample is less than the total of the lengths marked on the roll tickets, the lot shall be rejected. 4.4.3 End item testing. The cloth shall be tested for the characteristics listed in table IV, The methods of testing specified in FED-STD-191 wherever applicable and as liste
